And before anyone starts snapping out on me for all the returns, I pay FULL PRICE and don't 'steal' the EDU discount. All these machines will become refurbs and get resold for probably as much money as Apple gets on a fraudulent EDU purchase, so I don't feel bad one bit!

Just a tad self righteous, don't you think? It's a great thing I'm actually a student so I don't feel bad paying EDU price. In fact, I feel bad for you.

Also, the idea that you don't feel bad because they sell them as refurbs is purely asinine. You returning all these machines are lost profits on Apple's part. They must also repackage them after you got your grubby hands on them. They could have sold each of those machines at full retail and made much more than they will now because you immediately depreciated them by making them used. Good going.

Clearance delay - Import
MEMPHIS, TN
Shipment requires a Commercial Invoice.

someone must have forgotten something in my package !

Add a third person to this boat here. Sigh. Have either of you called FedEx or Apple yet? I sure hope we don't end up like the people in that "illegible invoice" thread and stuck in limbo for days!

As expected, I went to 'Shipped' within a few hours from 'Preparing'. Apple quotes delivery by Wednesday, July 18, but FedEx has me scheduled for delivery on the morning of Tuesday, July 17. It's gonna be a long weekend....

We must be on the same flight! :) Mine went to preparing sometime around 6pm last night, and I woke up to an email w/ the tracking info from Apple, time stamped 3:30am.

Of course, I not so secretly hope with the weekend, they'll be able to surprise me with a Monday, July 16th delivery, but regardless I'm a very happy camper right now! If it does come on the 17th, that'll be right at the start of Apple's original delivery window.

Ordered 6/20 changed to prepared for shipping this morning!
I got the 2.3/16/256 configuration.

Have faith! I've had Apple orders go from Memphis to next-day delivery, and I'm on the other side of the country from Memphis.

Edit: this does, of course, depend on which shipping option you chose. :(

You're right! Just checked when I woke up and saw this:
Jul 13, 2012 2:57 AM At destination sort facility VANCOUVER, BC!!!
FINALLY! After 1 month and 2 days, I FINALLY will be getting my rMBP today!!! I can't believe the wait is almost over! :D:D

I don't think you'll get treated the same at the apple store if you purchased from a third party, sure warranty/applecare still applies, but I'd probably expect a repair instead of an exchange if you didn't buy it from them.

Personally I'm staying with direct purchase from Apple.. My 2012 OCD story: so I bought a cMBP and gave my old 09MBP to dad for Father's Day last month. OCD'd so bad I ordered a 16/2.3/256 retina a week or so later and planned to return the cMBP. Then the next day I cancelled the retina order , returned the cMBP and got an ultimate air as I didn't think I'd be able to wait it out.... 1 week later was so OCD again that I returned the air and got a 8/512/2.6 retina in stock in TO, telling myself 8 would be enough RAM as I was happy with an ultimate air at 8.. Next day :) I placed an order online for a 16/512/2.6 retina and the apple store has since agreed to extend my return period till the BTO ships due to business needs.

Oh forgot to mention the cMBP I initially got had a very crooked right arrow key so I had exchanged it for another, and that one had an ever so slightly crooked up arrow key and I exchanged it again without even making it out of the store.

Is ABT going to do business with me? I don't think so. Frankly I'm surprised my picture isnt posted in the apple stores with a caption stating not to sell me any computers :D

That sounds like a pretty extreme reason to need to order from Apple. However, the guy from ABT emailed me today at 8 am (pretty cool since they dont open till 9) to tell me they are now out of stock. :( I should have ordered it last night but I wanted to wait and do it in person to make sure I got the student discount etc. So sad. :(

Amen!

You're not alone. Mine is in the same shipment and has the same delayed status.

I did expedited shipping and was pleased to see the shipment made a big hop directly from Shanghai to Memphis. I started thinking the delivery might be early beating the Monday estimate. Now I'm not so hopeful.

Searching for similar status messages. There weren't many, but there were a few. One was because the forms were illegible. Things were squared away later that day. However, in another, the delay was a couple of days. :(

I woulda liked to have it for the weekend, but if it gets here by Monday it would make it by the first estimated delivery date of 7/16-7/20.

:apple:

Have you done anything about it ? or you are just waiting for the package to be released ?

Mine has been stuck at the fed ex facility in shanghai for quite some time and hasn't had any movement. Where is yours stuck at on your tracking information? Hopefully I'm not in the same boat as you!

It was stuck in Alaska. I woke up this morning and refreshed and its at the local sorting facility! So close

That's unfortunate man the abt deal was phenomenal.

Which config were you looking at? They still have the BTO 2.3/16/256, 2.6/16/768, and 2.6/16/512 in stock.

No, but that's a good idea.

I called Apple and talked to "DJ". He hadn't heard of that hold before so he checked with their shipping department.

The explanation was that it's like going through the airport security check and you get randomly pulled for a more through check. Apple's shipping guy said he's been seeing more of these with the rMBP shipments. US Customs might be doing some double-checking that bogus rMBPs aren't being sold.

The good news is that it's normal, but the kinda bad news is that the delay might be up to a day. Also, the status might not be updated over the weekend, so even if it clears, the error might be there all weekend long.

Dang. :(

Heh, and I called FedEx. Basically they told me that it's pretty normal and applies to all 240 packages in our bulk shipment, and that they still believe they will "fulfill their obligation" with respect to delivery dates. I asked whether I needed to contact Apple for any reason and she said no.

Thanks for the info.

Same result, but it sounds like at least my Apple guy was friendlier than your FedEx gal. ;)

This is correct. According to their inventory all 3 are still showing in stock. I was able to secure the Edu discount with School ID, free shipping and no sales tax.

Did you just call them to do this? I was emailing Josh, but I'm getting antsy and think I might just call in to get it done before they sell out. Also, what shipping did you do? I did a live chat and they said no free shipping. Ground shipping is $30. Is Next Day still $70? Might as well use $40 of the saved dollars and get it Saturday.

I ordered it online last night than emailed Josh. He followed up with with an email this morning and a new invoice for the EDU discount.
I'm in Iowa City so UPS ground from Chicago is generally the next business day.

I ordered my 2.7/16/768 on June 16, very early in the morning, (est. delivery was July 16-20). My status changed early this morning to Preparing to Ship. I'm kind of hoping that I'll get it for the weekend, but Monday would be fine, too (I'm tired of trying to play games on my 13" MBA).

So, I've been too busy playing to post this. But Apple showed estimated arrival of Monday (July 16), FedEx site indicated Friday (July 13), but the FedEx truck arrived early (8:30AM) on Thursday (July 12)!!

I'm still setting everything up, but I LOVE this computer!! The only complaint I have (same with my 13" MBA), is that I usually wear a metal watch I don't like when it hits the area below the keyboard while I'm typing. I guess this means it's time to stop wearing a watch...

That's not true, UPS ground on the Retina is still showing free of charge. Just call and ask for Joshua Davis.

The rep had said they can't do free shipping on the edu discounted, so them showing free shipping on site would be a little different. I'll call and ask for Joshua.

Next day Saturday delivery shipping for me was $85, and regular next day (according to the site) is $65.

well looks like ABT sold out of the 2.6/16/512 configuration. figures. and what gives with the online store showing 2-3 week ship times meanwhile many of us that ordered more than 2-3 weeks ago are still processing?

Order 6/12, status changed to shipping 7/12, actually shipping 7/13, and now at Shanghai Airport with a clearance delay as of about an hour ago.
