Just ordered a Macbook Pro Retina from the online store after 20 + years of windows usage :p... hence my first post

Only problem right now is I can expect:

Leaves Apple:
3 - 4 Weeks

Receive it:
18 Jul - 24 Jul

Which seems like a massive bummer :(

I'm not very up to date with Apples' supply chain, can anyone chime in if that's a hard delivery date? Should I cancel my order and try my luck going to an apple store and buying it retail? I live beside an apple store.

Thanks!

If you're buying a base unit, by all means try a store, but they don't carry the upgraded versions.

Apple tends to be conservative in its shipping estimates. They'd rather have you pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed. Mine was ordered Monday afternoon, with a shipping date of 5 to 7 days. It left China on Thursday and is now in Alaska.

Ahh! You're right...

Departed FedEx location
ANCHORAGE, AK

Excellent! Looks like it will be in Memphis by 12:27am. Now, what to do about this whole Saturday conundrum if it gets to Columbus, OH where I live...
Our packages have arrived in Memphis as of <20 minutes ago. Hopefully they get them out to our local FedEx facilities tomorrow morning so we can go pick them up.

Changed from Preparing to ship (last morning) to Shipped (evening)!
So I guess Fedex does work on at least Saturdays :D

ETA by Fedex: 20th! :D (I ordered on the 13th)

As a word of note:

If you did not pay the extra $15 for expedited shipping, if you call Apple they will upgrade you for free. I experienced this personally as did several close friends.

Well the apple store was OOS, as was futureshop and bestbuy. I'll be prowling some local tech-apple stores like carbon computing and the local university bookstore then :)

Any fellow Canadians here? I ordered mine a few hours after the Apple store came out because I was a dumb butt and canceled the order to choose a different one but mine has been still processing for ages.

All these posts are making me so jealous >w< Mine's listed as 2-3 weeks but hey I'm having tons of fun with this magsafe adapter!

Yep, I am a fellow Canadian. My base model shipped today, but there isn't much info from FedEx. It doesn't say it is in transit from Shanghai, and the websites that list FexEd flights don't show another flight from Shanghai to Anchorage until next Thursday, so I'm hopping my RMBP is on the Fx28 flight landing in Memphis soon. That would make sense since FedEx estimates delivery by Wednesday.

Now, there are three possible flights from Memphis. Either sometime this morning, Tuesday, or Wednesday morning. FedEx could still meet their estimate if they fly my rmbp at one of those times. I'm hopping they'll fly it in to Toronto this morning so I get a Monday morning delivery. :)

Do not cancel your order now. Keep checking stores over the next few weeks if they have one get it there. You can log into your account in the store and cancel your order then.

You would hate to still be looking in stores in 3-4 weeks time and having not gotten one only to know if you kept your online order live it would have shipped by then.

Also, welcome to the world of macs. I switched a few years back just one machine and now we have nothing but in our house. One thing i did not truly take into account when i switched was making a detailed list of all the software i used on windows even down to the smaller apps etc and start checking where to get the mac equivalents from.

May be better these days but at the time i had to start researching for alternatives etc - could be something to help the 3-4 weeks pass quicker too ;)

Canadian, ordered as soon (almost) as the store came back online. Flipped to Preparing for shipment Thursday at 11:30 or so, to shipped Friday at 02:00. Shows as arriving in Anchorage at 13:39 Friday and in transit at 14:52. Still shows delivery date of Wednesday, but Tuesday could be possible. Will likely head to Memphis next, then Calgary, and finally Toronto.

Lucky ;w;

My gift card shipped out using DHL, I've never even heard of that shipping company but I guess it's just a gift card so whatever right. I've got a base model too so I'm hoping that I get my hands on it before next next weekend since I'm going out for a while and it would be nice to have...

Wow, they overnighted my gift card with FedEx from South Carolina on thursday and it arrived Friday morning at my door.

Why would they send it to Calgary and then Toronto instead of just straight to Toronto?

Oh wow. Maybe I'll call in and ask about it like that other person suggested so they can perhaps bump up the shipping to expedited or whatever. Sucks too I'm stuck on some windows machine until I get this thing aaaaa

Letting Apple into your home is tempting addiction.

Not saying it's going to happen but you know what they say:

"Once you go Mac.....you never go back" LOL

:apple:

I just submitted a hold request. I figure it can't do any harm since they won't deliver on saturday anyway, but the office is open so maybe I can pick it up? :)

Worst case scenario I have to drive 10min to pick it up monday instead of having it delivered, no big deal.

BTW, in a worst case scenario where you end up buying locally and it's too late to cancel, you have 14 days to return the one shipped by Apple at the local Apple store.

Have you checked the Apple store? I was at the Eaton Centre tonight and they definitely have them on display, but I didn't ask if they have any to sell.

Welcome to Mac!!!

When I ordered my Retina MacBook Pro it said that the earliest it would be delivered was June 22nd. It came earlier today (June 15th). They are definitely a little backed up right now but I think you'll get it sooner than the estimates.

Only display models

Question, does FedEx ship from china on weekends? I'm not talking deliver, I'm saying fly package to U.S.

I too was windows user i begin with XP and than ended with vista 2 years ago at first i hesitated to get on the apple bandwagon because of the lack of software but now things have changed with the appstore and steam.

Today i would say windows just plan sucks and HP is its leader i had a pavilion laptop with a ton of preinstalled crap ware and besides this on load up missing files and errors kept popping up i noticed this on my friends toshiba satellite recently which runs windows 7.

Did i forget to mention the ton of useless stickers and blinking lights.

For all those idiots that keep bad mouthing apple just take a closer at the windows interface.

1. it ain't simple to use to for instance to go to music you need to click a mountain of menus whereas in iMac one click on iTunes and you are there, good grief even removing a flash drive is like rocket science in windows.

2. those constant freezes i don't ever recalling my iMac freezing or having a blue screen pop unexpectedly.

3. the os is dirt cheap 20 bucks for OSX vs 200 bucks for one version of many.

4. FInally and most importantly the hardware and software work.
