Ordered mine 8/1, same config - is currently in the preparing for shipment stage. I'll be you see movement overnight.
Thanks, PCWebbJR. I am hoping the same thing. When did your status change to preparing for shipment ?.

I ordered mine 7/31, it went to Preparing for Shipment on Sunday and had shipped out by the time I checked Monday (yesterday) morning. Yours should probably ship out really soon then.

I’ve gone back through the posts for the last month and pulled out the FedEx “picked up” data.

It appears that FedEx picks up two shipments from the factory every day.
The first one has ranged from 10:00AM to 11:40AM which translates to 9:00PM to 10:40PM US Central
The second one has ranged from 5:37PM to 6:28PM which translates to 4:37AM to 5:28AM US Central
ALL of the afternoon shipments were tagged with “Package received after FedEx cutoff”

Here’s how I theorize Apple’s shipping works:
At the end of the assembly line your Mac is boxed in both white and brown shipping boxes. Stickers with model and serial numbers are placed on both boxes. The stickers are the same so the boxing must be a continuous, mac into white box, into brown box, sequential step. At the same time, the factory uses FedEx software to obtain a tracking number and merge the customer information with Apple’s serial number, etc. A FedEx label is printed and applied

This is the point where your Apple order status changes to “Preparing for Shipment”

FedEx picks up (I assume palletized) shipments from the factory twice a day, in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Once picked up, the Apple order status changes to “Shipped” and apple supplies the tracking info.

(1) If your package was picked up in the morning, it is eligible to make the 8:30PM or 11:00PM FedEx flights to the US. I say eligible because there are many reports of boxes remaining in Shanghai for days
(2) If, however, your package is picked up in the afternoon, it is beyond the FedEx cut-off and WILL NOT be on those nightly flights. Basically, anybody with an afternoon pick up is automatically assessed a 24 hour penalty and has to wait until the next day. (next day shipping may have a later cut off)
(3) If you’re stuck on “Preparing for Shipment” for a long time you may have just missed the afternoon pick up and have to wait up to 18 hours for the morning pick up.

I’m not sure if any of this makes any difference to those who choose standard shipping but it may make a difference to those who have expedited or next day shipping.

The one useful thing here for everybody is that there’s no use in checking all day to see if your status has changed to shipping since that should only occur AFTER either of the two FedEx pickups when all those boxes will update simultaneously. I don’t know how long it takes for Apple to update the status at that point, so I guess that checking around 11PM and 6AM US Central might allow enough time.

I know when they released these new options, I cancelled my July 31st order and made a new one from 2.3 to 2.6 Ghz. With educational discount, an extra .3 Ghz for only $90 sounds like a deal.

I did the exact same thing.
Cancelled my 31st July order (2.3/16/256) and reordered on 3rd August (2.6/16/256).

Still on processing.
(And my money seems to have come back into my account...weird?)
...I thought I'd won the lottery for a second there..

Ordered mine 8/2 around 9PM and it just went into "Preparing for Shipment" around 9 PM tonight. I got the 2.6/16/256 option. I just hope somehow it can get here by Friday. I'd like to have it to play with this weekend.

Mine has been "Preparing for Shipment" since 08:00 EST this morning. I ordered on 8/3 at 00:30 EST. Hoping it will be "Shipped" by tomorrow AM.

My order changed to Shipped overnight! Due to arrive Friday 8/10 by 10:30 AM with 2-3 day shipping. I ordered on 8/3 so that would be about 2 business days better than Apple projected.

Ok I am getting impacient now, my shipment status indeed says:

Please Note: Your items dispatched from different locations and will be merged together before delivery. Once merged, your Order Status will be updated with carrier and tracking information (at latest 48 business hours before your estimated delivery date).

And the status is:
Preparing handover to final carrier

But that shouldn't take longer than a day should it?

So last night I checked status; was in anchorage alaska from shanghai. I developed a bit of cold so got all hopped up on nyquil. Next thing I know someone is banging on my door. I look out, Fedex. Arrived one day early.

Finaly my order (2.6/16/256, 8/2 7am) status changed to Preparing to shipment sometime this morning (EST). I do see the charge in my credit card pending transactions. I guess it won't be shipped until tomorrow.

My order just went from preparing for shipment to shipped. I'm really impressed by how fast everything is going considering mine is kind of a BTO machine and I just ordered yesterday :O. If everything continues as planned it will arrive this very Friday, I'm really excited. Because it just went to the shipped status I'm still unable to track it on the UPS website.

I think my machine will arrive way before my student 80€ gift card.

Wow, this is way fast. what is your config ?.

Ordered it on the 7th, what date do you guys reckon it will come?

The email says 21st-23rd but that seems like quite a while considering the reduced delivery time.

Thanks in advance. (Im in the UK if that makes a difference)

Wow, this is way fast. what is your config ?.

It's just a regular cMBP 13'' with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD. It is just that I ordered it by phone in order to get the QWERTY keyboard instead of the standard French AZERTY one. At first they told me it would be delivered sometime between the 17/8 and the 23/8 but when finally ordered it they told me it would arrive between Friday and next Monday but just today it was marked as shipped as I said and by what Apple website states it would arrive this Friday.

I wasn't able to track it yet so I don't know from where it is coming from but I suppose is China as the guy on the phone told me they would have to send my 'special' order directly to the factory as they don't stock QWERTY models here. Ordered mine yesterday at about 15:30 hours.

Today is the day.... Let's see if FedEx comes knocking on the office door. My estimated delivery time is Today by 12:00 PM, but I haven't seen my Tracking information updated since it left Indianapolis last night.

I checked flight aware this morning and there were 4 flights from Indianapolis going to Edmonton connecting in Toronto and changing flights to either westjet or air canada.

Well, it seems my Mac is at The Netherlands and will arrive this Friday for sure :)
Does anyone knows if Apple have some sort of facility there? It seems like my Mac was already there when I ordered it as China can not be seen anywhere in the tracking information provided by UPS.

Go to expo.expeditors.com And put your "Our Delivery Reference Number"
(Mine was: 8212889512) Then check the "events" :)

They do got one in Amsterdam.

is there a big difference between 2-3 days shipping vs standard shipping ?. I chose standard shipping. Most likely my rMBP will get shipped on Aug'9th (shanghai timings). I doubt i get it on Friday. Mostly either on Monday or Tuesday.

PCWebbJR, since i also ordered same config (2.6/16/256), i am interested to know if you got samsung or LG panel. I am praying for samsung panel.

Thanks! I tried with a bunch of numbers they gave me but I was unable to see any information displayed on that site. Maybe it doesn't work the UPS?

If I recall correctly someone asked that in a thread recently and they were a few people saying that if you call Apple after placing your order they will -somehow- upgrade your shipment method for free. Try searching in the forum, maybe you get lucky and it works.

I first didnt have any UPS tracking.... since mine went to Amsterdam for repacking and now I have a UPS trackingnumber. So first I used the expo.ed... to track my package from China to Amsterdam... then I got the UPS, 1 day after it got to Amsterdam.
