Well screw it, I bit the bullet and have ordered the new high end 13" for a cool 2129€. Now let me see how much I can get for my 2015 13"...

Can people run the Intel Power Gadget and then select the Max Threads Test and post the AVG CPU after about 60 seconds? I’m wondering what the ceiling is to give a sense of the thermal cooling system in the new MBP.

I think it is ridiculous we need to pay €2130 to get the 10th gen CPU and DDR4 RAM. I don’t care what any fanboys says. This is a classic Apple move, back to their old tricks.
I don’t care much for the 14 inch screen, if they would’ve just UPDATED the internals without you having to pay €2130, it would be fine. Anyone justifying that € pricetag is sick.

Well...(bit off-topic); with taxes these are the starting prices in USD, for the exact same MBP 10th gen. i5 in the US, AU and EU (Netherlands):
US: 1799 USD
AU: 1953 USD (2999 AUD in Apple store)
EU: 2308 USD (2129 EUR in Apple store) and the 16" starts at a whopping 2926 USD (2699 EUR in Apple store).

I am also living in Europe, but you have to compare apples to apples (pun intended). It only makes sense to compare prices without taxes, as those are not Apple's fault. (Btw, you didn't add the taxes for the U.S. price in your comparison)

So in Germany we pay 19% VAT. Adjusting the 2130 EUR, nets 1790 EUR without tax, which in USD is 1942, so about 150 USD more than in the U.S. Our product guarantee is also one year longer, I think.

If you configured a 13inch MBP i5/16/512 a few weeks ago, you would have paid close to 2500 EUR with taxes, i.e. the price dropped quite significantly.

So, it is not all bad.

So multiple reviewers claim the speakers are upgraded and Engadget says they're not. Anyone with the 2019 able to confirm their 2020 sounds better? Notably the entry level model.

I see now the Apple store US asks for a zipcode; probably tax differences in different states? New York zip-code selects 160 USD tax.
It was not my idea to blame Apple for the EU taxes on their products. In my opinion it makes sense to compare the retail prices US (1799 + tax 160 USD) vs. EU (2308 USD). Being the end-user and consumer, this is what we eventually have to pay for the exact same MBP. So a difference like +340 USD for the same MBP is not the best deal in the EU... 💰

1799 is not the retail price, though. Sales tax in the U.S. store is added at checkout. It is lower than in the EU, though. If the residual between EU and US is too high to account for foreign exchange fluctuations and for one year more guarantee is another question.

Anyway, in general I am with you, but it is not as bad as it was made out to be. I have been waiting for this release for quite some time (still on 2012 15inch MBPr) but I am not going to buy this one and will wait for a redesign.

The US prices don’t include taxes.

Yep that’s the final price.

Don’t give Apple or our government any ideas, their already expensive as it is.
🤫😂
When you exclude taxes the AUD price is slightly less than the US price. It is US$1775 in Australia vs. US$1799 in the US.

Tbh tech is getting crazy expensive (thx Intel!). Dell XPS 13 with i7/16gb RAM/512gb SSD costs 1849€ without coupons here in the Netherlands. Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with i7/16gb slow 2133mhz RAM/512gb SSD costs 1929€ euros without coupons. Sure, both Dell and Lenovo usually offer hefty discounts on many products on their websites but nevertheless, you gotta pay big bucks for these premium laptops nowadays.

Yeah and most of em without dGPU.

I mean at this price point you better off getting the 16" at 2.1k & 2.2k sales lol.

Looking to get a Air or a 13" so I can leave my 16" at home when I go to the coffee or something

I'd be shocked if it were because 1. it is not outlined in the Learn page and 2. it has identical text on the Tech Specs page as the previous model, where as with the MBA and MBP 16" when they upgraded the speakers they made sure to have it mentioned it was a clear improvement on both

I get that this is an expensive laptop but it's in the premium end of the market. Apple still tends to be a bit more than some of the Windows counterparts but they are also the only company here using a 28W CPU so the performance is likely to be higher also.

And the 8th gen is still a great chip and your getting more for your money. It's not like you'd likely buy that and it be too slow compared to the 10th gen unless maybe you are doing graphics heavy work. It'll still be a good speed 5+ years down the line as well.

Don’t forget you get a longer standard warranty so that will add to your cost. US customers get 1 year parts & labor and 90 days technical support unless they buy AC/AC+.

The 10th Gen i5 sustains about 3GHz.

It differs by state, county, city. There are something like 9000 different sales taxing jurisdictions in the U.S. A few states like Oregon, Delaware, and New Hampshire do not have a sales tax.

Many people says that 16 is better. Ok.. this is sure!
But the price is much more
Here the 13 10th base costs 2229
The 16 9th base 2799
570 euros the difference... 621 USD

I know the difference of power.. but also we consider that price

Price doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is that the 16 isnt remotely as portable, and since this is a laptop I need to carry with me the 16 will never be an option. Not sure why people are coming into a review thread for the 13 suggesting that people should go with the 16 instead. It's stupid.

Thanks! Can someone with a Base Model/8th Model do the same?

Agreed. I’m not bothered by the price either, I’d buy a high end 16 instead of a high end 13 if I felt that worked better for me. However I much prefer my laptop to be light and portable.

Also when back at a desk I can use external screens or even an eGPU if I needed more graphics performance. Most of that time the laptop would be in clamshell mode so the size of the screen on it makes no difference.

You beat me to it, it's a good video. Also answers the question that the 10th gen model does have better speakers but the 8th gen model does not.

Ultimately for most people the 8th gen will be more than enough of course but you are getting a few nice overall improvements if you can afford the 10th gen.

Max Tech opened up both the base and the Ice Lake. The latter has woofers for better bass.

Agreed. If you equalize the RAM and SSD, the 4TB model is $200 more. You get the faster CPU and GPU, ports on both sides, better speakers and better thermals.

That was the case last year as well though. I’m wondering if the speakers in the base unit are improved at all over last year, because to my ears the new Air speakers are better than the base 2019 MBP.

This over and over!! 🙌 It's not even comparing similar use-cases. The 16" can literally not fit into my backpack.

Does anyone have any thoughts between the 8th gen and the 10th gen and battery life?
