MacBook Pro Battery Exchange

Heh...

Invoice. If you don't reply to that, then Collections Agency... don't want to do that either?

They'll ruin your credit then. :) As a college student who's goal is to keep a decent looking credit history, believe me, I'm returning mine.
Why not wait until you're invoiced before returning it then?

I'm going to wait a month or two to get some more cycles out of my current one (which qualifies, but has not given me any problems). Then I'll send for the new one and keep the old one unless they kick up a fuss, which I don't think they will.

(I'm at uni too, but thank god we don't have credit ratings LOL)

Received mine this morning via UPS. I'm in the UK and for the life of me can't woork out what to do to send it back. The instructions in the box only state what you do if you live in the US or Canada. Anyone know wht to do in the UK?

My replacement came yesterday via DHL. The return label is under the original shipping label, which peels right off. According to the inclosed letter, I'm supposed to call for pick-up. But since my original battery has never shown any sign of a defect, I'm reluctant to make the call.

Read the bigger booklet of the two titled "Repair Terms and Conditions - Shipping Instructions". UK instructions are in there. Basically you call UPS and tell them you've got a prepaid return service label. Check out page 9.

I got my replacement battery... and am wondering if I should drain and then charge it like most batteries? Anybody know?
You should follow the standard Apple battery conditioning guidelines, just as with any other new battery.

I also received my battery today, and I see the letter says "you may be charged..." I still think I'll hold onto it to see what happens.

It came around 9AM today via DHL. :)

And for comparison, my PowerBook.

Wow, I think I got extremely lucky. My MBP has been buzzing from the screen inverter since I got it, but I didn't want to send it in to AppleCare while I was relishing its awesomeness. I finally got a box sent to me last week and sent it in on Tuesday, August 1. Hours before I sent it off, I read the story here about the battery replacement program and got one sent to me. While my MBP was off being repaired, they apparently noticed that my battery qualified and replaced it. So now I have two new batteries, one from AppleCare, and one from the replacement program. They kept my old battery when I sent it in to AppleCare, so I don't have an old one to send back! If they call and ask for my old battery, I guess I'll just tell them that they've already got it.

Hooray! I can finally edit video fully mobile!

Anyone not got theirs within the time stated on their email?
I ordered mine on the 31st and still haven't got it 6 days layer :(
- i guess there's a lot of demand...

Just enquired as to what to do at the Apple Store Regent Street, they seem to suggest that failure to return will indeed result in an invoice and seemed surprised card details weren't taken at the point of form filling for the exchange.

I used the story that I was travelling at the moment, staying at hostels, (where they aren't keen on you using their address for deliveries and pick-ups etc), and what would happen if it wasn't back within 10 days. They recommended that I either try and contact UPS to arrange pick-up and notify the hostel first, find a UPS drop-off point or possibly take it to a post office, (they weren't sure about this last one).

In a nutshell, when I return I will contact UPS for pick-up on Thursday, (next day I'm off), or see if I could take it around the corner to their local depot, (2 minutes walk away), to see if they could process it there instead. I don't want to pay £99.01 for a battery that not only underperforms, but I use on the very rare occasion that I am away and need more than 3-4 hours battery. Anyway, looking on eBay, if I need a spare, it'll cost me about half that price to buy an OEM.

I was about to put my new battery in but I then noticed it was damaged! One of the corners of the aluminum surface is bent upwards, revealing some of the components inside. Is this dangerous? Should I call applecare again and ask for a new replacement, or just use this one regardless? Please help!

Definitely call for a replacement! Definitely don't use any battery with signs of physical damage. You've got no idea how it'll behave during use -- a kaboom certainly can't be ruled out.

Patrick, I only got one small booklet with the battery, they must have forgotten to include the other one. I don't know what to do.. Could you tell me what the instructions are? Thanks. ;)

I think I am in the same situation you are in: I got the paper in the package giving detailed instructions for the US an Canada and only generally stating that I have to arrange for a pick-up. So I called a number I found on the UPS web site to schedule a pick-up. The return label was also included in the plastic envelope on the outside of the box. I am in Germany by the way, but I guess it is similar in the UK.

hi, i live in Indonesia
and there's no apple centre in my country (cause here about 99% person use windows) me too just Make a wonderfull "SWITCH" to Apple through MY beloved MBP :p
anyway i bought my MBP in Sngapore , but i understand that the warranty is worldwide.

anyway i alrady siggn up for replacement to Indonesia address and apple already send me a confirmation E-Mail, but i'm quite confused cause there's no apple centre in My country, so that's mean my battery will be send to me directlly from the US ???
if so, I may as well didnt' return the old one to save "apple" some money from the shipping :p
huhehehheheeh :p

The booklet I got had instructions for various European countries. I already replied to owengot's PM and I will be posting a picture of the instructions on Monday. I left the booklet at work so can't get it posted before then.

All it had really was basic instructions to call UPS with the various UPS numbers. Just make sure that you got a printed service return label in your box that you can replace the label on the front with (it should look pretty much identical with just the addresses different).

Update: just got mine swapped.

Something interesting for the UK people wanting to keep hold of their batteries; the UPS guy who delivered it said that Apple asked that the swap be done there and then so's he could take their battery back there and then(although it could be that he didn't want to come out again to collect)

Hi all. I know I've posted to the fourm before, but I couldn't remember for the life of me my login, so I had to start fresh.
Anyway, I got my new battery friday and calibrated it according to the MBP user manual saturday, and am still only getting around 2hr 20min on the new battery. This is actualy worse than my old battery which was 2hr 40min at full charge.:(
I've seen people talking about 4 and 5 hours, so what is the deal here? Did I just get another bad battery from the new batch? I thought these new ones were suposed to perform better?

I highly doubt you got another bad battery. Most people get 2.5-3.3 hrs out of their mbp under leisure use. It really depends on many variables as to measuring how much battery life you have (ie. brightness, devices such as bluetooth, apps, etc). 4-5 hrs under regular use would seem like the users are doing everything to minimize power consumption.

I currently still using one of the defective batteries and I get a little less than 3 hrs under light loads (<25%) w/o bt and half brightness. Like cars' miles per gallon, laptop's battery life can vary greatly depending on usage.

I believe one of the main reasons for the battery exchange is safety along w/ some of the issues of random system shutdowns.

Give ur new battery a little time and have it cycled through and see if improvements surface.

For those who already got their battery exchanged, have you noticed any less heat when charging? I doubt it has gotten cooler, i'm just praying lol.
