Not to quibble with you Bill but my IBM laptop battery is over 6 hrs (special batteries really, only developers machines get these batteries). I guess your battery experience with windoze computers was limited?.

Bill, the developers machines were machines issued to developers. Any regular consumer could order them. So you see bill, there are possibly thousands and millions of people out there with superior performing batteries than those in apple computers. Just a FYI to you.

Curious on which model of laptop you are talking about. I have used many different laptops Windows based laptops from a few vendors and the only Windows laptop system (HP Compaq nw8000) with over 6 hours of battery life ... sometime close to 7 or 8 if under light load ... had two batteries in it (one in the expansion bay). It of course weighed in at around 8+ pounds in that configuration but it was a great system for doing development work on.

Intel improved battery life for laptops when they came out with the Pentium M and related power optimized chipset (what my nw8000 had at the time).

I returned from a trip on Sunday and when I turned on my computer, which was unplugged stored in my room, it didn't turn on... no big deal, the battery likely died. I plugged it in and when it woke up from hibernation, the battery status said battery unavailable. My battery went kaput. Just another problem from my Bad Apple... I'm getting tired of these problems, I never had to call tech support from my cheap $600 laptop.

Just to chime in here-

I have a 3 month old MBP, the battery suddenly started crapping out at about 50% charge- total shut down, no sleep, no warning. Call to Applecare, was told to bring it into an Apple Store to be tested. Probelm worsened (now 75% charge--> shutdown) and I got the swollen battery. Long story short, battery replaced by Apple Store (Phoenix) this past week.

I love how all Applecare tells you to do is to bring it to an Apple store... the nearest one is 200 miles away!

I don't know how to take a screen shot but I ordered my new battery and my old one is running at 4022 mAh 73% 65 load cycles and 6 months old.

I have the same. About 250 more than max. Are you sure this isn't an indicator of a faulty battery?
I'd say CoconutBattery is wrong on the original capacity.

I actually like that they give you that option, especially for work that can be done on the spot. Many people don't want to be without their hardware for any period of time.

Got my replacement battery in the UK today. Just fully charged it up - now going to let it run dry and see how long it lasts.

Just got mine today, US.

Accompanying it, a letter with the following...

"In all cases, you must return the original part to Apple following the instructions withing ten (10) business days of receipt of this letter or you may be charged Apple's retail price for the part" in bold.

I could get 5 hours out of my Dell Inspiron 600m on only one battery.

ordered my replacement yesterday and recieved my new one today.. thats some great customer service. lets see how this one works. :)

A

Got mine today, just fitted.

coconutBattery shows 5541/5500mAH for this new one. Since my first post of screenshot of coconutBattery, have gone back up to 94% on the original battery. Perhaps it isn't so bad, (not that i doubted it was).

Anyway, off to the Great British Beer Festival at Earl's Court tomorrow and Saturday, so will be spending a bit of time in the Apple Store, Regent's Street, (need to buy a few things too). See how it goes, might even enquire there and I won't be able to have it picked up until possibly a weeks time anyway.

in regards to the others like me... since i last did coconut battery my original capacity has gone up from 95% - 96%

also, i just got my new battery today, havnt put it in yet, BUT

i read the letter that comes with it... in short, i have 10 days to return the old battery otherwise im getting charged for the new one.

just thought i would remind everyone again that was hoping for a free battery.

How exactly are they going to charge you? The letter you got, (and I recieved) is a form letter for replacement parts. It's a form letter that goes out under many different circumstances. I'll bet you you're old battery, (LOL) they'll not charge you if you don't send it in. Of course, send it in. But all they're going to do with it is recycle the battery.

im still waiting for my battery to come in. . . . . i think it did. but i just miss yesterday's and today's delivery. my last chance is tomorrow. crap

Got mine this morning, seems like it fits better than the old battery. i'm still curious what's the difference maybe a cure to heat or whine

Heh...

Invoice. If you don't reply to that, then Collections Agency... don't want to do that either?

They'll ruin your credit then. :) As a college student who's goal is to keep a decent looking credit history, believe me, I'm returning mine.
