If Apple does in fact release a MacBook with a notch, I predict that anarchy will ensue on MacRumors.com
And how is the notch going to prevent someone from putting tape over the camera?and prevent people from blocking their webcams for spying purposes.
It isn’t impossible that it is Prosser.
If you're going to have a notch, you should have Face ID.Don‘t notice the notch on the iPhone, won‘t notice it here. Also there will be a good reason for this, e.g. a better camera than would otherwise be possible.
Except that the betas already refer to the new display resolutions, which would not be the case if Apple is doing a separate build for secrecy sake. So if the betas don't have it, Monday's computers won't.
If so wouldn't there still be notch-specific code in the OS since the menubar is not app specific?Could be. Could also be that the AppKit team is working with the Safari team on a different branch, whereas the CoreOS team (who do display resolutions) have already merged.
That’s true. Menus currently occupy this space. If you are looking at a bigger screen on a laptop it will be noticeable. For sure! 100%
you will be blocking the other sensors then, so it wont be ideal. some people still use the webcam but also toggle the cover on and off with a sliding door cover, which is what i useAnd how is the notch going to prevent someone from putting tape over the camera?
I don't buy it for a secondwhat actually disgusts me is the rumor about the whole keyboard area being black. That just sounds and seems unsightly and cheap.
People will eventually get over it. They’ll give up and stop complaining about the notch 😂If Apple does in fact release a MacBook with a notch, I predict that anarchy will ensue on MacRumors.com![]()
why do people want faceid so badly on the mbp? we already have touchid biometric authentication.
notch is coming whether you like it or not. its to make the bezels thinner and prevent people from blocking their webcams for spying purposes.
You can still cover just the camera as well in a notch as the bezel.you will be blocking the other sensors then, so it wont be ideal.
I fully expect this new MacBook Pro design to stick around for at least the next four years, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 2022 or 23 version keep the exact same notch but add Face ID. Probably Apple just future proofing the design, so they can continue to make improvements without having to change itNotch makes more sense on the MBP than on an iPhone/iPad. The top of the screen is always the top of the screen (no rotation) and the middle of the top menu bar is typically already always empty space.
I will welcome the smaller bezels and form factor. I am surprised though that they wouldn’t add Face ID.
People must be brain dead.
Completely brain dead.
Or just looking for click bait.
You can’t have a notch on top of macOS interface.
It would cover and break menu bar items.
No doubt. Even those that don’t are far less likely to be invited back. These are designed as marketing events, not design reviews. Dissent that might effect the financial bottom line would not be tolerated by anyone and certainly not by Apple employees.Odds are there would be cheering and clapping anyway
If only someone would come up with a software solution to that problem. I mean, Apple can put crappy cameras in iPhones and make them look somewhat useable with filters and AI. I'm pretty sure if they'd work hard enough, they could solve the problem with a camera at the bottom of the screen. They could even solve the problems with eyes when looking at the screen and make it seem like people always look directly into the camera. Maybe they could apply some background filters too and remove background noise in audio and so on.Brands manufacturing laptops w/o bezels usually place the webcam at the bottom of the screen resulting in a low angle view. This is horrible.
If the choice is a bigger bezel with a smaller screen, the notch is a no-brainer.Instead of looking at it as suddenly having more viewable landscape, they will fixate on 'the notch'. I hardly notice it on the iPhone anymore. What O would notice a whole lot more would be a small dot that was staring back at me. *shrug*
you can but you will need to manually remove the cover every time you actually need to use it. some people toggle on and off the webcam by using a sliding door cover when not in use.You can still cover just the camera as well in a notch as the bezel.
Not only can you totally have something in the center of the menu bar, but Apple in particular knows because that's what Mac OS X briefly did.

So how does having the camera in a notch prevent people from using a cover that cant be done with the camera in the bezel?you can but you will need to manually remove the cover every time you actually need to use it. some people toggle on and off the webcam by using a sliding door cover when not in use.
Guy, You must be joking or brain has gone. Photoshop and many other apps have menu items that go right across the screen. There’s a reason Apple ditched the centered Apple menu before OS X came out. Users said WTF is this.
But this is the internet. People don't want to get over it. They want to decry how the notch is the end of days.People will eventually get over it. They’ll give up and stop complaining about the notch 😂
