Except that the betas already refer to the new display resolutions, which would not be the case if Apple is doing a separate build for secrecy sake. So if the betas don't have it, Monday's computers won't.

Could be. Could also be that the AppKit team is working with the Safari team on a different branch, whereas the CoreOS team (who do display resolutions) have already merged.

I’m not mad at the notch at all, I think it looks kind of sleek if the bezels are going to be tiny.

what actually disgusts me is the rumor about the whole keyboard area being black. That just sounds and seems unsightly and cheap.

And how is the notch going to prevent someone from putting tape over the camera?
you will be blocking the other sensors then, so it wont be ideal. some people still use the webcam but also toggle the cover on and off with a sliding door cover, which is what i use

So …um…why not a camera inside the bezel instead? There’s no notch in the iPP for the FaceID camera either.

I am not in the market for a new MBP, but am confused as to why Apple would even consider this, especially if FaceID is not implemented.

Now, if they release a more powerful Mac Mini? Maybe, I’d bite…if Apple gets their QC together.

People must be brain dead.

Completely brain dead.

Or just looking for click bait.

You can’t have a notch on top of macOS interface.

It would cover and break menu bar items.

It wouldn’t even work on Windows or Linux Because if you have two apps side by side in split screen view then the widgets on the left app would be covered by a notch.

why do people want faceid so badly on the mbp? we already have touchid biometric authentication.

notch is coming whether you like it or not. its to make the bezels thinner and prevent people from blocking their webcams for spying purposes.

Apple's new computers will scan your home for CSAM paintings.

Notch makes more sense on the MBP than on an iPhone/iPad. The top of the screen is always the top of the screen (no rotation) and the middle of the top menu bar is typically already always empty space.

I will welcome the smaller bezels and form factor. I am surprised though that they wouldn’t add Face ID.
I fully expect this new MacBook Pro design to stick around for at least the next four years, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 2022 or 23 version keep the exact same notch but add Face ID. Probably Apple just future proofing the design, so they can continue to make improvements without having to change it

Not only can you totally have something in the center of the menu bar, but Apple in particular knows because that's what Mac OS X briefly did.

Odds are there would be cheering and clapping anyway
No doubt. Even those that don’t are far less likely to be invited back. These are designed as marketing events, not design reviews. Dissent that might effect the financial bottom line would not be tolerated by anyone and certainly not by Apple employees.

Brands manufacturing laptops w/o bezels usually place the webcam at the bottom of the screen resulting in a low angle view. This is horrible.
If only someone would come up with a software solution to that problem. I mean, Apple can put crappy cameras in iPhones and make them look somewhat useable with filters and AI. I'm pretty sure if they'd work hard enough, they could solve the problem with a camera at the bottom of the screen. They could even solve the problems with eyes when looking at the screen and make it seem like people always look directly into the camera. Maybe they could apply some background filters too and remove background noise in audio and so on.

Apple can do this! I believe in them. They should call it Nvidia Broadcast... err, I mean Apple Broadcast, not Nvidia! Apple! Apple Broadcast! 😂

Instead of looking at it as suddenly having more viewable landscape, they will fixate on 'the notch'. I hardly notice it on the iPhone anymore. What O would notice a whole lot more would be a small dot that was staring back at me. *shrug*
If the choice is a bigger bezel with a smaller screen, the notch is a no-brainer.

I do notice on the phone since I can't have percent any more due to lack of space, but I'm not lacking space on my 15" MBP. Giving me 16" in the same size will make up for it!

You can still cover just the camera as well in a notch as the bezel.
you can but you will need to manually remove the cover every time you actually need to use it. some people toggle on and off the webcam by using a sliding door cover when not in use.

Guy, You must be joking or brain has gone. Photoshop and many other apps have menu items that go right across the screen. There’s a reason Apple ditched the centered Apple menu before OS X came out. Users said WTF is this.

There is a black border going all around the screen and the sensors and camera can go in there just like on iPad Pro.

So how does having the camera in a notch prevent people from using a cover that cant be done with the camera in the bezel?

Not sure why you keep making comments about other people's brains, but now you've shifted your goalpost from "it can't be done!" to "it was unpopular!".

It was unpopular in part because it was a completely pointless gimmick. There wasn't even a menu there. Now, it wouldn't be pointless at all.
