Gosh that newly redesigned 24" iMac that Apple released earlier this year has such a nice looking notch. 🤔

Just imagine when the newly redesigned MacBook Airs come out with their white bezels, we'll get a white notch. 👏

Back then, some people complained about the bezel. This time, they complain about the notch. Can't please some people.

why do people want faceid so badly on the mbp? we already have touchid biometric authentication.

notch is coming whether you like it or not. its to make the bezels thinner and prevent people from blocking their webcams for spying purposes.

It could be nice, like a notification for an email so you look at the screen and then it shows the full text, see it's not important so look away and it hides again.

So how does having a notch prevent people from using a cover?
like i said before, some people use sliding door covers to toggle on/off the webcam, the sliding door cover would encompass the other sensors too. you can cover just the webcam but you will need to physically remove the cover each time you need to use the webcam.

door cover looks like this: CloudValley Webcam Cover Slide[2-Pack], 0.023 Inch Ultra-Thin Metal Web Camera Cover for MacBook Pro, iMac, Laptop, PC, iPad Pro, iPhone 8/7/6 Plus, Protect Your Visual Prvacy [Black] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079MCPJG...abc_CDAA9FKDCNPRR6BQBXTN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Guy, You must be joking or brain has gone. Photoshop and many other apps have menu items that go right across the screen. There’s a reason Apple ditched the centered Apple menu before OS X came out. Users said WTF is this.

There is a black border going all around the screen and the sensors and camera can go in there just like on iPad Pro.
Even though I am one of the "brain dead" people according to you, my brain just came up with a thought. The apps could simply wrap their menus around the notch if there is too much content in their menu bar to all fit on the left of the notch. I've yet to use an app that took up the entire menu bar but I am brain dead apparently so I may be forgetting it.

They don’t have a notch on the iPad Pro *with Face ID*, but they’re gonna put one on a MBP without it? This would be one of the top 10 most surprising and bizarre Apple decisions of all time.

Alright then. iPhone will never get rid of notch because Apple sees this as the only way to differentiate their devices from the crowd. Too bad that iPad Pro may have a notch in the future just because, rather than serving any actual purposes.

MacBook Pro 14” was that good until this… iPhone I see the notch every single time I see a white background or playing a game or watching video, which is one reason why I don’t enjoy using iPhone that much anymore. Glad that Touch Bar M1 MacBook Pro isn’t half bad compared to M1X either so I am still good for a few years.

Next time, introduce notch on iMac, Mac Pro, Apple ProXDR Display to achieve “edge to edge” display while supporting “Face ID”. While we are at it, add notch on iPod Touch too. What else? How about a pair of notch on AirPods? How about in accessories? Oh yeah, let’s introduce notch on iPad to house “more advanced Face ID” components. Let’s embrace the notch so everyone seeing a notch knows you are using an Apple device. All good now?

Ridiculous.
First of all, they won’t ever add one to the iPad Pro, mainly because you use an iPad in multiple orientations.
You use it landscape, portrait, you can even use it upside down. And it’s a screen that you hold, so the border can’t get much thinner or else you wouldn’t be able to hold your iPad.
For the iPhone, it serves a functional purpose, and is barely noticeable.
For this new rumored MacBook Pro, it’s making the border even thinner so the device can be smaller while having a bigger screen, which I appreciate. Give me the biggest screen you can in the smallest body possible, because it’s a portable. I want it as portable as possible while being as useful as possible.
Seriously don’t see the big deal here, The screen is already 16/10 so videos will remain to have a black border at the top and bottom, so no need to worry about it intruding on your content.

Since part of Face ID is attention awareness, the notifications would need to be centered under the notch for this to work; aren't notifications still on the right?

I get that, but this is the thing you said that I'm referring to.

"notch is coming whether you like it or not. its to make the bezels thinner and prevent people from blocking their webcams for spying purposes."

My question is why would putting Face ID in the notch prevent those covers but putting Face ID in the bezel wouldn't.

Besides, you can already get privacy covers which are compatible with FaceID.

I can’t believe there are people who don’t mind the notch, even going as far as saying they like it and would take it just for some thinner bezels. You people are the reason why we have this notch mess in the first place for complaining about bezels for years.

Bezels melt away into the background when you are focusing on the display. Not once have I owned any phone or laptop and focused on the bezels and said: “Wow! These bezels are so distracting! I can’t be dealing with this!”

Nobody whined about them in the 90s or 2000s either. A notch is way more distracting and is a design catastrophe. They cut into content on the display when I view full screen photos and videos for example. Defending it does not help things and just gives Apple a reason to keep it around.
Well most photos and videos are 16/9 so you don’t have to worry about the notch intruding on your content.
Mini LED allows for true blacks, so when you make a video full screen, the top will just turn off, and you’ll just have a black bar at the top like you do already.
As for why to make the border thinner, it has nothing to do with caring that you can see the border, and all to do with the fact that I want the biggest possible display in the smallest possible body.
If I can get a 14 inch display in a body the same size or even smaller than the current 13.3 inch, that’s much better in my opinion than getting a 14 inch display in a body that’s even bigger.

Black keyboard though seems so fake.
not to me, seems legit. there is a lot of evidence indicating that the notch is coming. i think the black keyboard is legit too. folks in china have more insight into manufacturing so to dismiss these rumors is a bit arrogant imo. i would trust these rumors over prosser

I don't trust Prosser either. Call me arrogant if you wish, I prefer to call that skeptical.

Why a MacBook needs a notch? The screen is already large enough. Even the iPad mini hasn’t the notch, so why a MBP should need it? It has only sense on iPhones where the screen is small compared to the other devices so you need to optimise space on it, but on a 16 inches MacBook makes no difference at all. FAKE NEWS!!

The people complaining about the bezel are not the same that are complaining about the notch.

Yeah, but Apple can either anger one or the other. You can't minimize the bezel and still have a good sensor array without doing something strange like a notch, hole punch, etc.

You can't do a significantly better camera without compromising on some other end either. You can add a camera bump, put the camera on the bottom (making for terrible perspective distortion), etc. Or have a mediocre camera.

You had to be wearing a tin foil hat when posting this one, or joking. Right, please tell me you don't actually think this.
smartphones for the most part have your biometric data, voice, text, typing patterns, faceID, your thumbprint. heck amazon now offers a roaming bot with camera in roaming throughout your house. TV's, homepods, and other smart devices have google assistant/siri on at all times. amazon was even caught listening even when supposedly turned off. why do you think batteries are non swappable now? its to prevent phones from fully turning off. even now apple has the find my network still enabled even when the phone is off.

nah but im the crazy one..
