However you have to rationalize this, in your mind. If your webcam is bad enough that you can't see non-verbal communication, you probably should've upgraded about 9 years ago.
You see that’s ironic.
Guess when was the last time the MacBook Pro saw a WebCam upgrade?
Edit: 10 years ago, they got the current 720P WebCam in February 2011.
I would say that after 10 years, an update shouldn’t be questioned.
I don’t even get the point of complaining about it, it’s like complaining about a better screen. Is it necessary for everyone who uses a MacBook Pro to have a better mini LED screen? Of course not, some people don’t even use the built-in display. Is it still a better display, and should be upgraded? Yes.
If I’m spending $6000 on a MacBook Pro, which is as expensive as they can get, I shouldn’t be getting a 2011 WebCam.
I’m getting a processor from 2021, a display from 2021, a keyboard from 2021, speakers from 2021, software from 2021, I don’t think it’s that big of a ask for a WebCam from 2021

I personally love the notch. The next best thing for a clear view was to have nothing on screen and thin bezels … that is the only thing better. A small circular thing is still something that should not be there for a clear view.

So if the next Macbook Pro comes with thiner bezels and just a small notch like on the iPhone 13 … I’m all for it. This looks very good :)

I’m not sure how internet speed improves your cameras resolution.
You're kidding right? Anyway, have a good evening. I've labored on this topic long enough. Clearly some folks are defensive and that is their issue that they will have to iron out.

Nope. Not kidding. Slow internet decrease resolution but fast internet does not increase it.

I wish you good luck in your quest for a 1080p or higher webcam.

Guess Apple could have apps display the menu a few pixels away from the top on these displays, so the notch is avoided when some apps have menu items spanning just more than half the width of the screen

So you'd buy an iPhone 12 Mini with the notch, over a notchless version if one was offered and the overall specs and functionality were the same? Nope, no you wouldn't.
Depends on the price.
If they were identical in price, than obviously I would buy the notchless Version for better resale value.
If they were not, I would buy the regular one because I wouldn’t really notice it on a daily basis.

I need a better webcam. My therapy practice is now almost entirely virtual. Even as the pandemic (hopefully slows down), many of my clients now aren't even local, so it will continue virtual. I use my iPad Pro in portrait mode, which is weird for most of my clients, but when I rotate it, it's hard to look at the camera because I'm also trying to look at my client. My 2018 MacBook Pro, which is obviously landscape mode, just looks really rough. It matters to me because it's my business. Even if people don't consciously consider it, it can feel like it cheapens the experience if they have a grainy therapist. We're a pretty visual species. Looks matter. Appearance matters. First impressions matter. :) I'm looking forward to HD landscape sessions. I've been exclusively Mac for over 20 years and I'd like to keep it that way, so I'm looking forward to this (even if the camera, from a total lay perspective, probably could have been upgraded ages ago).
Have you considered buying an external USB camera, such as a Logitech webcam? I get the appeal of using what’s built into a laptop, since the webcam on a $1000+ laptop really should be more good enough for a virtual meeting. But I was just thinking about how I know people who stream on Twitch, and they use external Logitech cameras because the quality matters a lot to them as a first impression. At least I know I would appreciate and would feel more comfortable with a therapist who has a good camera and steady connection. Here’s hoping the new MacBook Pros give what you and others need, and makes this a non-issue.

we demand everyone to turn on their cameras now because the teams from the UK and India always love to do other things on the side, not paying attention and then are like „oh sorry, I was on „mute“ or „yes, no problem“ without actually knowing what had been discussed. The worst is the throw away line „sure. I will get back to you“ (they won’t)

ANYWAY, we are taking about camera improvements here. It’s not that serious

Many teams at big tech (aka "FAANG") companies require cameras to be on during meetings for security purposes. Spies sneaking into online meetings has become a major problem and meeting procedures constantly evolve to crack down on this. Meeting participants who cannot be positively identified are immediately dropped. That being said, most people hate having the camera on and will cut the video feed ASAP. This use case doesn't require image quality as anything recognizable will do. This also applies to online education where the main purpose is to see that students are paying attention.

Of course they will outsell, because we have a chip shortage and people will buy anything they can get their hands on. Why do you think the M1 Macs sold so well? Because no one else had stock and in the middle of a pandemic with people working from home, people/companies needed much more hardware and Apple was sitting on stock. When you go to Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. you have delivery times of 6 to 10 months! So of course people will buy these, not because it's Apple, but because they need to browse the web, write emails and use Word/Excel and Apple is pretty much the only one who has some stock left, because they sell so few laptops/desktops to begin with.

Yes, amazing, industry leading battery life and embarrassingly better power per watt compared to everything else on the marked had nothing to do with it at all. Nope. It was chip shortages.

I’m sure the Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen9 you mention will outsell the new MBP once the chip shortages are over….

…. And, you know, pigs fly.

Today, or when the x came out? Because the “notch” taught people two gestures. Today most people likely get it, but when the “notch” was introduced it had a lot of value.

People said the same thing about the iPhone notch and yet it is still going
Because it is the only thing that can stand out for apple devices. Notch? Apple device! Ezpz.

Can’t wait to see iPad notch soon heh. Otherwise iPad Pro looks too similar to Samsung tablet. Oh wait, there is no other tablet in the market.

it was a genuine leak.

Yup, had nothing to do with it as business statistics of manufacturers and reseller proof. Why don’t you have a look at how many people ordered Dell and Lenovo machines and then switched their order to MacBooks because they needed the hardware immediately. Oh wait, you don’t have access to that data… what a bummer. Still surprised so many people live under a rock and are unaware of a global chip shortage. Simple Google search should show how severe the chip shortage is with production lines in various industries are shutting down all over the world. Have some other shocking news… we’re in the middle of a pandemic.

When I read this, you seem convinced of it - so in other words, when the chip shortage is over, Max market share will shrink cause everyone is going to buy dell and Lenovo again…
ROFL
