General public hate the notch. There’s a reason Apple decided to make iPhone 13 notch smaller.
Aside from screen size, Apple makes nearly all components smaller when they can. That’s the evolution of technology. It will happen with the MagSafe charger too. Also, I would challenge that the general public “hate” the notch because the iPhone sales don’t show that. If that were the case, consumers would by another product of Apples or a different brand altogether. “Hate” is a strong word. I’d love to have a lighter, and thinner phone, without MagSafe, but I don’t “hate” those things.

If the choice is between a notch and larger bezels, I’ll take the notch.
I go along with that ideal. We could have much smaller bezels and keep the webcam. I hope this turns into a trend that spreads to pc laptops.

Making the top bezel so “thin” that there is a need for a “notch” to house the camera and the sensor hardware is very unlikely… it defeats the purpose!

The notch is seriously a non-issue. I still don't understand why people are so emotionally distraught over it. If anything, it's "extra" screen wrapped around the notch rather the notch imposing on the screen real estate.
Because it's ugly, distracting, and covers up part of anything in full screen view. I stood it for a long time, but I'm over that, my 11 PM was my last iPhone until the notch is gone. And it goes without saying I wont be buying anything else with a notch in it either.

I would gladly have a larger bezel on top to get rid of the notch.

You're looking at it wrong.

It's not a notch, it is a reflection of a notch from iPhone that was used to take that picture.

Alright then. iPhone will never get rid of notch because Apple sees this as the only way to differentiate their devices from the crowd. Too bad that iPad Pro may have a notch in the future just because, rather than serving any actual purposes.

MacBook Pro 14” was that good until this… iPhone I see the notch every single time I see a white background or playing a game or watching video, which is one reason why I don’t enjoy using iPhone that much anymore. Glad that Touch Bar M1 MacBook Pro isn’t half bad compared to M1X either so I am still good for a few years.

Next time, introduce notch on iMac, Mac Pro, Apple ProXDR Display to achieve “edge to edge” display while supporting “Face ID”. While we are at it, add notch on iPod Touch too. What else? How about a pair of notch on AirPods? How about in accessories? Oh yeah, let’s introduce notch on iPad to house “more advanced Face ID” components. Let’s embrace the notch so everyone seeing a notch knows you are using an Apple device. All good now?

Ridiculous.
You’d rather have a bezel across the entire top then? Just like your MacBook Pro where the camera is?

That's the only choices only for Apple fans. In the real world there are other options - like reasonably sized bezels. Bezel size on the laptop is not as important as it is on the phone. Extra 3 mm in laptop size is not going to change anything. It's not like you are carrying the laptop in the pocket. For the longest time Apple was totally oblivious to laptop bezel sizes (at least compared to the competitors) and now they had an epiphany? More likely now that the touch bar gimmick is gone they need something to stand out in the crowded laptop market hence the gimmicky notch.

it would actually be additional screen real estate and that is why I find this rumor credible ...we'll find out soon enough
Yes. That's exactly what I wrote in my post your replied to - extra screen real estate.
That is the benefit on a laptop when you don't use full screen for your apps. But was are the issues? Full screen video, and...?

Ugh. I hope this isn't true. It just looks weird. I would end up with one of the M1 laptops instead, when what I need is the M1X with all it promises - ports, power, etc.

If people are deal broken by a notch you wonder if they actually need a new laptop in the first place. In our consumerist society it is always good to be content with what you already have unless upgrading would be beneficial to your use of the device.

Yep, I repeated just for the sake of it 😎
There have been comments that when you play full screen videos the top bar would go black, full screen apps would run just full screen and the area above, left and right of the notch shows menu and menu bar… who knows, Monday will be a fun day, morning for me

What’s wrong with TouchID for the MacBook? FaceID has no additional benefits.
I'm excited about what FaceID could mean for the mac beyond just authentification : automatic dimming of the screen when we aren't looking to save battery, and as I have it on my iPad I do find it a huge time saver to unlock or validate purchases and so on.
As for security purposes, the computer would be able to know if we are the one using it or not and could lock itself out in cases it isn't us etc. Not to say these would be implemented but one can dream

I swear.
Some people act like Apple is stupid.
Spoiler alert: they’re not.
They make some weird decisions here and there, but they’re a company with thousands of employees who have to use these machines.
If there is a notch, it’s clearly not just gonna be a big gap in macOS, Apple will have clearly put thousands of hours of development into it to make sure that it is functional.
You don’t have to worry about your final cut randomly having a big gap in the middle of the toolbar, that’s not how this works.
well, they did make all those changes to Safari

I’d much much prefer a screen which is not fragile as paper than a bezeless screen. Thing needs to work first before looking pretty.

Not to say bezeless screen is going to be structurally inferior, but Apple is not known for building rigid enough products in recent years.

As if Apple can do no wrong and never make any mistakes whatsoever just because they are a trillion dollar company.
I am still not a big fan of Safari change, on top of website compatibility being the bottom among Chrome, Edge, FireFox and Safari.

Oh man this is beautiful, as someone not touching these assuredly 2 grand computers with a ten foot pole I get everything I want: the Performance per watt will be fantastic enough to spur increasingly serious efforts in competition on this front (ARM laptops) but the memes will be glorious now in light of the inevitable display blooming and notch. Thank you, Apple
