Nothing wrong with a notch on a laptop. Unlike iPhone, the notch is most likely embedded in the bezel, not inside the screen estate.

With or without the notch, this product is already DOA without revolutionary and beloved Touch Bar.
The touch bar wasn’t never fully baked and could have been so much more. I’d be happy if it was gone as I didn’t see any real purpose so no it won’t be DOA in my opinion.

Of course they will outsell, because we have a chip shortage and people will buy anything they can get their hands on. Why do you think the M1 Macs sold so well? Because no one else had stock and in the middle of a pandemic with people working from home, people/companies needed much more hardware and Apple was sitting on stock. When you go to Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc. you have delivery times of 6 to 10 months! So of course people will buy these, not because it's Apple, but because they need to browse the web, write emails and use Word/Excel and Apple is pretty much the only one who has some stock left, because they sell so few laptops/desktops to begin with.

Watch sales drop for them massively once the chip shortage is over. I have to use a Razer Blade Studio with RTX 5000 in addition to my fully loaded MBP. I wanted something lighter for travel so I decided to get a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen9 last week, which I can hook up to a eGPU. Estimated delivery was May 2022! Same for Dell and others. I played around with different configurations and ended up with a config I didn't want, but bought because I can still get it this year. So many people are in the same situation right now. Just look at the GPU market, people buying $400 cards for over $2k.

what?

you seem to be missing up corporate employees having the choice to switch from an approved hardware list and simply chose hardware and an os from a completely different vendor at will while still getting the same support and software they require. That’s not it.

consumers made their own choices, corporate users with corporate laptops had to wait. I’ve done 40 new hires this past summer and they got desktop PCs which we had in stock or resígales from other locations to our own. Lack of stock in corporate supported hardware doesn’t allow corporate users to switch from windows pc to macs.

Apple like Tesla properly negotiated priority supply very early on. Consumers had choices. Plain and simple.

The watch thing was certainly weird, though wasn't it basically just Prosser et al spitballing? Or were there actual "case leaks" and the like? For the MBP notch image, actually to be fair now I think of it, I guess it could be an image of a prototype they had made but don't intend to move forward with... I kinda hope not though as I actually quite like how it would look!

mall analysts and leakers sang the same BS song since Apple trolled them.

the knock off brigade DID leak box shaped Watch S7’s to try to get negotiations and dead with accessories. Along with labelled 41/45mm bands. Yet I haven’t seen those bands labelled as such on the connecting part ship (I could be wrong on the latter though).

many hear “liked” how it looked, yet didn’t think much of how it would feel when wearing it doing things. Walking about in dress attire to show off, cool for some (not me). Try running, lifting weights, chin-ups/pull-ups/muscle-ups, rope climbs, clean & jerks, push-ups … basically any exercise when you wrist will be bent a boxed edge of a watch will very quickly feel uncomfortable!

this why even Android smartphones after Sony’s SW-2 never featured that hardware design choice.

Because it's ugly, distracting, and covers up part of anything in full screen view. I stood it for a long time, but I'm over that, my 11 PM was my last iPhone until the notch is gone. And it goes without saying I wont be buying anything else with a notch in it either.

I would gladly have a larger bezel on top to get rid of the notch.

If only everybody else held this conviction. I haven’t purchased any new iPhones since the 8. I won’t support bad, lazy, unnecessary and uninspired design. And that’s exactly what the notch is. I use the SE2 and used the SE1 and other models all throughout the new releases because I refuse to spend on a bad design. Good design is what drew me to Apple products in the first place, an emphasis on design and a good user experience.

It is absolutely inexcusable if they add a notch to their laptop line…but the sad part is - it’ll probably still sell like hotcakes. Somehow along the way, people just stopped caring about a decent design…and Apple knows it.

Never understood why the touch bar doesn't include accidental touch detection like the trackpad has.

It also made it clear where to run your fingers for the notification and control center gestures, moves status icons out of the way, and makes it easier to tell which side is 'up'.

it was a good design and people rely on these cues. There might be an evolution for it, but it doesn't make sense to get rid of it all at once.

i want to design /code whatever .. can't do it with those notch. phone okay lol . work desk nooo

If they make the menu bar align with the notch it provides two more corners for gestures and allows for two apps with their own menus. If it's an OLED screen it would turn into a top bezel during fullscreen tasks.

Too bad, what if there is no bazel then?

Would I rather have all screen and no notch? Sure.

Do I really care if the transparent menu bar with nothing going on in that space has a notch? No.

Am I hopeful that all those complaining really do refuse to purchase a computer with a notch - thus freeing up initial inventory? Ecstatic.

All I'm going to say is that there is more talk about the alleged rumored notch on the new Macs than there is the number of notches in Pat Benetar's lipstick case.

Cue Hit Me With Your Best Shot.

Wow. 34 pages in and we're still talking about this notch? This sketchy last-minute rumor is really making it's rounds.
Same "sketchy" rumors about iPhone 8 notch which turned out to be true for the iPhone X

It is funny reading that iPhone 8 rumor thread and seeing how many people had to eat their words. Given the odd resolution already leaked from Monterey, this is near certain to be real.

Everybody is discussing whether or not notch. But ok, if there is a notch, how the heck is menubar going to be handled? Heh?
I’m sure Apple have already figured that out. Look what they are doing with safari browser changing the layout back to back. They know what they are doing. Pretty sure they have everything all settled.
