If the iPhone had a Xiaomi sticker on it, the iPhone would not sell that well.
If the iPhone had a Xiaomi sticker on it, it would run Android. So yeah, it would not sell well, because it would be identical to a flood of products already.

Suspiciously, the graphics overlaid on the photo are straight from the REvil/Quanta leak.

So, either it's a low-effort fake using these graphics to add apparent credibility... or we've been sleeping on MBP notch evidence for months.

Genuinely not sure which, but thought it was worth noting.

But there's no real evidence to suggest that it will in fact be a 'notch'

Macrumors reported a photograph of a camera module and a technical diagram of a display chassis. That tells us nothing about the size of the display or how it will be designed around the camera module.

this new macOS Monterrey option lots of people asked for before makes lots of sense now.

you can now keep it always showing in fullscreen, Apple will probably prompt you to choose the default behaviour during set-up.

The benefit is the same as the notch on the iPhone. You get more screen real estate as opposed to having a thick bezel at the top of the screen.
There is already enough of screen real estate on a 14 inch laptop, there is no reason for having a notch. It’s a different story with a small iPhone in comparison

The notch basically makes the bezel part outside of the camerausable... you can see the clock, date and other information.

It will not interfere with the main part of the screen.

At first I thought the concept of a notch was a bad idea. Then, the more I thought about it the more I liked it. I don't know whether the new MacBooks will have a notch, but I now hope that they do and I can even see this coming to the iMac in the future.

There are, however, a few user interface issues. First, they can't allow a simple mouse over or move to enter into the notched area. There should be a virtual top of screen that will align with the normal menu bar so that any mouse gesture toward the top ends up just as it would today, stopped at the top of the menu bar.

So, they will need to implement some kind of modifier key or special mouse action to enable the user to move into the notch area on either side of the camera (if they want to, otherwise mouse behavior and menus would be exactly as they are today). Then, if the user commands to enter the notch area it might even be possible that a drop-down area will appear to cover the normal menu bar which would also allow more room to display items/information. But, once the user moves out of this area with their mouse the normal menu bar will reappear.

As for items that could be placed in the notch, those would likely be system functions like date/time, user name, keyboard selection, sound volume, network/WiFi status, and notifications -- basically everything that currently appears on the far right side of the standard menu bar of today. There would also probably be room to show more specific notification text or reminders (like telling you that you have a meeting scheduled in another ten minutes).

The dimming of the notch area would have to be under the control of the system. It would automatically be blocked out whenever an app requests full screen, so movies would play full screen (but not into the area of the notch, the display area for all apps will still be a perfect rectangle). Not sure what they might do with this area when the system is in sleep mode, but it might remain illuminated to display status and notifications (an option that could be turned on or off by the user).

I think Apple could make this work and it's probably a feature that would be very difficult for anyone else since you really have to control both the hardware and the software to make this work.

So, I'm now a definite "thumbs up" for the notch.
And not only that.. Even normal applications (e.x. for developers) in full screen mode now can have menu bar always visible. I'm the same. For the first 5 minutes it was "eww", but now as I'm thinking about it, it sounds interesting and it makes sense IF Apple did proper UX design. And everybody wins because the only change here is a bit more space for applications (i hope that normal area for apps will be 16:10 and will not be able to hit into "safe area" space) and this is a little bonus.

What if they’re leaking fake notch information so that users will be even happier when they release it without one?

I personally don’t care if there’s a notch or not. It could be an engraved personalised insult saying I suck and I’d still get it. That’s how badly I need new hardware.

Aren’t the thicker-than-required bezels on the iPad Pro deliberate? They could have easily made the bezel as thin as the iPhone notch height. Not good evidence to argue that Apple knows the notch is bad.
The bezels on the iPad Pro *are* about the thickness of the iPhone notch. The bezels there looks so much bigger than they do on the iPhone because they’re that thickness all around instead. On the iPhone it’s only that thick at the notch and significantly thinner everywhere else.

You can basically pick either you want thin bezels + notch OR iPad Pro thickness bezels without notch.

Yay ! Your mac screen infested with notch cancer.

Hmm, my iPhone X really does have notch cancer. It developed a new tiny notch near the top corner after I dropped it on to concrete one time. The glass didn’t crack but the shock must have damaged the internal OLEDs.

Not much of a bother at first but it’s been slowly growing ever since. Now it’s taller than the original notch and starting to merge with it! Need a cure for notch cancer!

The MagicMouse 2 ist perfect designed hiding the charging port at the bottom. But the MagicMouse 3 should use USB-C fast charging instead of Lightning port. Some people like visible dust and dirt catching ports.
I never understood the backlash over port location on someone you only have to charge briefly once a month. Just plug it in while you sleep. Or if you’re somehow surprised by an mouse empty battery, plug it in while you go to to your kitchen for a cup of coffee.

It is bad design.

It’s deliberate design. They didn’t want people using the mouse while it was plugged in. Dumb would just get in to the habit of leaving it plugged in all the time and then what would be the point of having a wireless mouse?
I have a wireless mouse (Logitech MX Master 3 for Mac) that I have to charge around once a month. I plug the cable in when I need to charge it and continue to use the mouse while it is charging. I then unplug the cable when it is done charging.

Too bad, what if there is no bazel then?
Won't look like that picture. I am currently typing on my 2013 13" MBP now, the bezel around the screen is thick. I measured the top bezel and it is about 15mm thick. If the new 14" MBP retains the same overall size as the 13" MBP, even with the increase of the screen from 13.3" to 14", there will still be over 5mm thick bezel at the top, that is plenty of space for the notch to house the webcam, light sensor or whatever Apple is planning to add in.

They could go half way and make a notch that has absolutely no impact at all if there's a small bezel up top and a black menu bar.
That would only work if the menu bar background were solid black, but its a tint of the background. Also I don't think that under daytime lighting conditions Apple can guarantee that the notch wont reflect light differently from black on the screen, and therefore it would visually stand out and look like something which cheaply cuts into the menubar; and it could only cut five or ten pixels since The menubar would still need to display menubar text below the notch. So the choices are a top bezel the height of the notch, or a notch the height of the menu bar.

The notch is really only going to be a visual issue on the smaller laptops because the chances of menubar text stretching to center of the 16” screen are pretty minimal.
