There's a simple solution to this rumored problem.- If the notch is there and a person does not like it to the point that they are so revulsed, they should not buy the machine and there will be no stress. Easy-peasy
that makes just too much sense ... I'm sure that most of MR folks will hate your post

This rumor sounds plain stupid, like the idea of putting a notch on a laptop screen to shave a few mm off the bezels and be able to use the expression “edge-to-edge” in some marketing material.

Don‘t notice the notch on the iPhone, won‘t notice it here. Also there will be a good reason for this, e.g. a better camera than would otherwise be possible.

If you believe this rumor, the same person claims it's just a low-resolution 2MP camera. That's it. We're adding a notch...for a 2MP camera with no Face ID capabilities.

I agree re faceid, but for now, I'm going to enjoy the comments here and be even more excited for Monday
Only 2 more days left. Im so glad it’s on a Monday. We don’t have to worry about it during the week. We will be too much processing what Apple has announced during the week.

A notch wouldn’t be a big deal given the Mac has a permanent bar along the top. I just wish I could have an OLED 120Hz VRR display.

Notch makes more sense on the MBP than on an iPhone/iPad. The top of the screen is always the top of the screen (no rotation) and the middle of the top menu bar is typically already always empty space.

I will welcome the smaller bezels and form factor. I am surprised though that they wouldn’t add Face ID.

I’ve never understood the hate for the notch. It’s purposeful, and uses space that would otherwise be wasted. On my iPhone, I get Face ID along with other sensors, and I also love how the time, cellular signal, WiFi and battery signal are tucked away on either side. If there were no notch all of that information would be pushed downward forcing the things like webpages to push the url bar down into the screen.

I have zero issues with a MacBook Pro or any device having a notch when it’s purposeful. I think some people forgot how hard it is to create new or advanced technology.

General public hate the notch. There’s a reason Apple decided to make iPhone 13 notch smaller.

Alright then. iPhone will never get rid of notch because Apple sees this as the only way to differentiate their devices from the crowd. Too bad that iPad Pro may have a notch in the future just because, rather than serving any actual purposes.

MacBook Pro 14” was that good until this… iPhone I see the notch every single time I see a white background or playing a game or watching video, which is one reason why I don’t enjoy using iPhone that much anymore. Glad that Touch Bar M1 MacBook Pro isn’t half bad compared to M1X either so I am still good for a few years.

Next time, introduce notch on iMac, Mac Pro, Apple ProXDR Display to achieve “edge to edge” display while supporting “Face ID”. While we are at it, add notch on iPod Touch too. What else? How about a pair of notch on AirPods? How about in accessories? Oh yeah, let’s introduce notch on iPad to house “more advanced Face ID” components. Let’s embrace the notch so everyone seeing a notch knows you are using an Apple device. All good now?

Ridiculous.

Have you not seen movies or YouTube videos on a black black background. It makes a huge difference. There is a reason theatre's around the world at pitch black. Same thing can be applied to the bezels
It is unclear what point you are trying to make. If you are saying that you need to be sitting in the dark to benefit from not having a bezel, then how would that be any different than the current black bezel? I'd argue that most people primarily use their laptop with some form of ambient light.

One thing Apple hasn’t change since Jobs death is they are still living in their small world.
and quite successful they have become ...

You do have choices, you know that, right?

I am looking at my menu bar and I am noticing it is just empty in the middle and always is. Even if a video is being watched, the aspect ratio would make it sit under where the bar would be. I really don't see how a notch would take away real estate. I don't believe this rumor, but I also don't see a potential notch as a problem.

Don’t expect things to change until Tim Cook retires. Once the new CEO steps in we can expect many changes

I don't understand the hate for the notch, if the resolution rumours are right then it makes a normal 16:10 screen + a bar for the notch and extra info. That means more screen estate, maybe the menu will be left and right of the notch. And when you're watching a video full screen you won't see it because the notch isn't protruding in the 16:10 area.

I am thinking this is true right now just really hope Face ID is coming (especially with the Memoji Lock Screen on Monterey perhaps indicating it is coming).

I am also fully expecting Macintosh to be finished… with the launch of the all new Macinotch!

I can’t believe there are people who don’t mind the notch, even going as far as saying they like it and would take it just for some thinner bezels. You people are the reason why we have this notch mess in the first place for complaining about bezels for years.

Bezels melt away into the background when you are focusing on the display. Not once have I owned any phone or laptop and focused on the bezels and said: “Wow! These bezels are so distracting! I can’t be dealing with this!”

Nobody whined about them in the 90s or 2000s either. A notch is way more distracting and is a design catastrophe. They cut into content on the display when I view full screen photos and videos for example. Defending it does not help things and just gives Apple a reason to keep it around.
