Any news on the people that were waiting for the online apple store to ship MBPs to them??

Are they still waiting??

Yes. Still waiting. I looked at my order online this morning and it still isn't shipping. They did update and say it might ship "Feb.20-28" now, though.

MBP inventory NOT dwindling !!

Bestbuy MBP inventory is up n running again !! So is the case with all retailers.
So it trashes the "Macbook Pro Inventories Dwindling" rumor !!:(

just order MBP

Hi,
I am posting here, because, frankly, some of the other WAITING threads are getting vicious.

I too, have been waiting. I am using a Powerbook G4 from Nov. 2003.
I need a new machine but have been holding my breath just for the new look (whatever that may be).

But i cannot wait any longer. I just ordered the Midrange 2.4 MBP by phone from Apple. It will be here on Friday (expedited).

I wanted to share my sorrow and condolences to those that have helped me get by since Jan 15.

One thing I can tell you, with no "spin" is that I TOLD the Rep that I had been waiting since Jan. and was originally interested in a Refurb (but I need a machine by Monday!).
He said (and again, this may have been scripted, and so, no longer true):

"These machines were updated in November."

I didn't want to get into a "You call 2.6 bump an update?" .... Also, if that WAS a scripted Talking Point, it was the only one. because this guy DID know what he was talking about regarding the Graphics Card Differences, etc.

I confirmed that I have 14 days to return. And I will, if things happen.

I guess I just wanted to share that. I don't mean to feed or fan any flames... But I appreciate a lot of what I held onto here for the past month.

and I'll be following along, still.

Thanks,

Bill

P.s. My method, besides refreshing here, has been to search "macbook pro" and "update" or "refresh" - on google/blogs. But i never found aanything that i didnt get from MR.

I'd say congratulations banthony :) I respect what you've done, and regardless of what happens, your new machine will be spectacular. I'm still using my PB from October of 2003 and I'm also about ready for a replacement machine. The only thing keeping me from truly freaking out about the lack of MBP updates is the fact that I can wait until August before I truly need the new machine. I also just replaced the battery on my PB so that will also help me get through the next few months.

Would I love new, updated MBPs? Hell yea, but I'd love to have the current one in my hands just as much.

We must have the same Al Powerbook G4 (1st rev) b/c I bought mine in October 2003, too. Mine is so slow and really needs to be replaced but I'm gonna grit my teeth and hold out for the update.

I am not ready yet for an upgrade, but for those waiting, I hope it comes soon.

One question .... Does anyone knows when the PB 15" G4 1.67 started selling? I seem to remember it came out around October but not what year.

2005 according to the Buyer's Guide (just looked for the October release date)

i have to agree, i also think we may have to wait until the 18th (depsite the fact i don't them to update that late.

Next Tuesday is the last in Feb and the iPhone SDK is due to be released in Feb... so if that's released next week I think the MBP release will be at the earliest one week later... first Tuesday in March.

Kind of hoping I'm wrong because I'm in the market for a new MB or MBP and I'd rather see the updated specs for both before I decide. :-s

MBP on sale in Sweden.

Got an email today from one of my local dealers (an apple premium reseller) in Stockholm. It pretty much said that they are clearing inventory on 15" and 17" MBP´s (mostly with glossy screens) and to get them while it lasts. The rebate is almost equivalent of US 300$ (not much given the poor state of the dollar and the overall high price of macs here). This all might not mean anything in terms of the upcoming penryn revision but sales on macs are pretty rare in sweden and actualy almost always take place after newer versions already have been released.

A nice offer but I´ll hold out just a couple of more days since my windows xp machine actualy is working pretty good... knock knock

my prediction is that it will be the 17/18th march, and it will be a complete redesign, and that it will have an airbook-ish appearance.

You know, I'm starting to get the same feeling that the update will be released mid-March but I'm REALLY hoping it's next week. *sigh*

My Powerbook has 221MB left of free hdd space and I'm starting to get messages that I'm out of disk space (when the paging file is heavily used) so I really need a new MBP!

really don't like the new mb air appearance, prefer the mbp's design, looks more ... solid.

The portuguese Apple store and resellers still have and never were low on mbp's. Pt Apple store had always the 24h or 3 day shipping notice(if customizing the mbp).
The largest reseller Fnac, only now are receiving MBP's with Leopard, so we are wayyyyy behind.

But im still gonna wait for the updated mbp to get the most out of the Extremely expensive mbp. Really need it for university but prefer to wait then be sorrow.

Will be my first mac, looking forward to it :)

I ordered my MBP on Tuesday. It shipped yesterday and I am expecting it tomorrow. I went with the stock midrange 15 inch, so maybe the BTO orders are taking a bit longer. I didn't expect to get it so fast, so waiting until Tuesday to open it is going to be tough. We'll see what happens.

Well, I'm done waiting for the updates. This last Tuesday came and went. I decided to get one of the current models, after all they are a known good model with few issues. I had until the 28th to decide, but these Tuesday's were killing me, and the 2.6 was jumpin' up and down screaming at me "TAKE ME, TAKE ME".

Got a 15" SR 2.6 refurb model direct from Apple. Saved a couple of bucks and still am getting a great machine. I've purchased their refurb products before and besides the brown box and refurb serial number, you can't tell they're not new. It will be arriving on my doorstep the 22nd.

I'll keep watching for the "new" MBP's to show up, but will spend way more time enjoying this new machine than reading these posts. :D

I did have to pay a price for this latest, greatest machine. Apple replaced my 12' PB G4 1.5GHz under warranty. It was sent in for repair at least 4 times and still didn't work right. I will miss this tiny wonder. Maybe Apple will produce something this small in the future.

I just couldn't take it any longer. You all are stronger than I :) On a side note, My brother in law got a 2.2 MBP last night as well. He's a dark side convert. He is so going to enjoy using a computer again. :apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

There is no point in waiting anymore. You guys all said it will release at MACWORLD which was Jan 15th. Its now Feb 21st and there is still nothing. I just bought one last night as well and it is a monster. It makes me feel safer to know that this won't have any issues.. but I am pretty sure the Penryn will have A LOT OF ISSUES since the rev1 hasn't even been out yet!

We haven't seen any specifications for it. All that we know about is that there is going to be a change in the processor. The difference between revisions is going to come with a lot less problems than the difference in going to an entirely new chipset (eg: Santa Rosa). I don't see how there isn't any point in waiting for an upgrade, especially since the update seems to be evidently soon, but whatever it's your choice. I honestly doubt that the updates that are going to come from this revision are really worth the entire wait that I have put into the machine, but I'd sooner wait than waste my money buying outdated technology that I could get elsewhere for about 900 dollars less.

Well, just registered here! :)
I'm on windows xp but hopefully in march I'll be getting a new MBP and become a Mac user. :) :apple:
I've been reading on these forums for a few weeks and I'm really looking forward to the update. ( I need it to happen before April)

Anyways, does anyone know if there is the possibility of a price change on MBP's? Or does apple always keep the same price through updates?

Seems like Dell, Alienware, Lenovo, Gateway just starting to integrate their computers with Penryn processors.

I guess Apple will be the next one? We do hope so. Penryn processors can sit on Santa Rosa platform, maybe Apple will just give an optional upgrade to Penryn processors. Just like Dell / Alienware. I guess most of us are waiting for the new MBP is due to the multi-touch trackpad, right??? If Macbook Air is still using the same trackpad, I guess the decision of getting one MBP now is not as tough as it seems to be.
My country does not offer BTO systems. I went to an authorized reseller store on the 14th, one of the worker said that some update on Macbook Pro is likely to come up in 2 weeks, means next week. Even the MBP demo set has been missing more quite some time. Not sure if this fact can be trusted but pray hard for the coming Tuesday...

From what I've read on these forums, the price will most likely remain the same (I could be wrong on this one). I'm just holding out for the update because I know the Canadian price will drop considerably due to the exchange rate (priced a Mac Pro before and after the most recent update, and the difference between CDN and USD was much smaller).

:O

<a bit off topic>

i played with the macbook air multitouch today. OMFG it's so so good. i love it. i am going to wait for the MBP regardless cause it will no doubt have a multitouch

worth the wait imho.
