penryn is soooo late. it will be quietly launched just to get few of us to buy it.. what is the point in launching a big update when the next one is around the corner in 3 months?

i m really convinced that i will get whatever costs 1999 on the 27th of feb. thats the end of the story i surrender. i cant stand any more tuesdays!
i am starting to hate tuesdays. if this comming tuesday they dont launch it i will hate all tuesdays and love my macbook pro santarosa.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this unconfirmed as well? Wouldn't that mean that we are expecting updates in 3 months to actually be in 3 months? What if they are as late as the penryn updates are? Then if they do finally update the MBP next Tuesday, there may be up to 6 months before the next updates arrive...

and you just got ripped off by Apple by buying a $1999+ outdated device.

In your opinion, correct? Also, please explain to me, as well as the others on here, how a 2.2+ GHz C2D, 2gb+ of ram, and a video card with 32 stream processors is outdated. Just like all of your posts, aside from the one you copied from me, I fail to see one ounce of logic.

;)

If there is no updates next week, would that mean there will not be any for the 3 next month for sure?

it has been on the market for 6 month+, = outdated

And I was going to write, "And you will still be waiting", but it seems like people here are getting a bit testy.
The point is, if you can wait then wait. I planned on buying a MBP immediately after selling my Macbook until I read this forum. If I get my computer and the update happens I'll send it back for the new one, unopened and no restocking fee. And that depends on the shipping dates for the new computers, I won't wait a week for the update and three to have it shipped. If the update doesn't happen, I'll have a computer that I'm very happy with, and I won't be stressed waiting for the Tuesday after. By the way, they start at 1,799 for me ;)

Ready to come back to the Mac

Extremely impressed with the current iMac, MBP, MBA models.:)
Will soon be working with the Leopard OS x, iLife, maybe dual XP....
Hope the Time Capsule and MBP updates happen concurrently.
I see a new mobile wireless environment coming.:apple:
My MBP update request......please reduce the operating temps!

yea that's true, actually you got a good point. Like man, I am pissed off cause I should of bought mine back in January when I had the chance. Sorry, I didn't read about the shipping part, but you absolutely have a good point.

I can't believe how asinine it is to argue that there's no point waiting just because technology will eventually make your computer outdated. Well, duh. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't put a little bit of thought into timing your purchases with the product cycle.

Here's a comparison: We're all going to die (eventually). THerefore, why care about your own safety? Jump out of a plane without a parachute. Play Russian Roulette. I mean, what's the point of worrying about it?

I don't think that the reason for waiting is the current ones being "out of date", but more that if you are going to pay $2000+ why not wait a few weeks (or more), and get more for your money. As long as the time that you wait is not going against the original purpose of getting the computer.

And therein lies the problem. If my situation dictated that I have to get one, I would have already. It's the fact that I can wait that's made me hold out... which totally blows cuz I have absolutely no patience :(

I am in the same boat. Guess that we will have to keep waiting. I have no need for the computer but I am using a 5 year old PC. I have wanted a mac for many years now, and am finally going to get this one for college.

Macbook Pro Inventories Dwindling?

Over here in Oz, a fairly large retailer of PCs and Apple reseller has a 10% off all computers thru' Sunday 24 Feb. 08. I'm tempted to take advantage and buy a current MBP. But how sick would I be if come Tuesday 26th an update was released... I've waited since November like most of the rest of you, so guess I can wait some more, but is anything likely to come out that would make AUD290 saving off a current MBP seem like a bad idea? Also is the sale closing Sunday an indication of a new release on Tuesday???

i'm an aussie, which retailer is offering the discounts? but it may not be of benefit for me, as i can get $300 from edu prices.

yeah, i wsa talking to my other mate, and i basically said that i didn't want to pay full price for old hardware. the problem with apple is prices stay the same, when equal PC products decrease in price. apple must make a fortune out of selling products for their full initial price, even though they are basically oudated. i am not a fan of this practice.

Someone correct me...

If I remember properly, Penryn desktop processors were announced in November, but it took until January for Apple to introduce them in the Mac Pro line. About two months... And they basically upgraded just the processor.
Penryn mobile processors were announced in January and, apparently, not without some trouble (delays in shipping significant amounts from Intel, rumored heat problems, etc). On top of the processor upgrade, we are also expecting at least a new trackpad and a magnetic latch externally, and some GPU or HD (or both) improvement. I think, based on this, that the March 17th (actually 18th is a Tuesday) date someone proposed is, then, much more plausible than this series of "next tuesdays" we are getting into. I really hope I'm wrong and Apple releases the MBP next week. I want one!!!.
Now, people are going to say that this prediction does not make sense because then it's going to be only three months until Montevina chipset is launched and two updates won't happen so close to each other. Yes, but following the same logic, Montevina transition won't happen the next minute after Intel releases the chipsets. Most likely it's going to take 2-3 months to make its way into the MBP (and the rest of the products). So I don't think we're going to see any montevina laptops before September (and that's six months from March).

i have to agree, i also think we may have to wait until the 18th (depsite the fact i don't them to update that late. i might actually cancel switching if it's that late, as it would be in the middle of my uni semster, and switching OSes mid semester would be a pain)

also, when the MBPs took up the SR platform before many other laptop manufacturers (i think only sony had a SR platform lappy available). so i don't think the typical apple approach is to delay updates.

JB Hi-Fi - banner ad coming up on macrumours, at least on mine...

LOL and i thought adblock plus was a blessing.

i'm in bris, but a two hour hike to toowoomba is not worth it.
