I gave up today and ordered a refurbished 17 high-res... If they release something significant enough to pay the restock fee this month, so be it, but I feel good about going with the current mbp today and waiting for the big upgrades in the fall...
Ordered a MacBook Pro
Just an FYI that might be interesting to some of you. I waited as long as I could to order my new MacBook Pro, but my deadline was Feb.15 then I jumped out and ordered from the Apple store online. The interesting thing is that my computer is delayed until "Feb.26-28" instead of shipping immediately or the usual 2-3 days. May mean nothing, just thought it was a bit interesting.

I'm assuming you did a BTO?
When I checked this morning, a BTO was listed as a 1-3 day until ready for shipment so maybe the 26th is the release of the updated MBP...I hope so.
I did a BTO...but ordered it Feb15. Should already be in my hands under normal circumstances, don't you think?
If it was a 1-3 day prep time, then I would see it shipping out tomorrow or Thursday. Either way, it shouldn't have been delayed to Feb 26 - 28.

Screw it. I just ordered my MBP. I'm sick of waiting for a slight upgrade even if it is a new processor. The current model is more than enough for me to do my image processing. From the sounds of it, MBPs won't ship until next tuesday anyways. If a new one comes out I'll just send it back, if not then I haven't waited another three weeks for the update. This wait just killed me. Wish you all luck, and I'll let you know if my shipment is delayed.
Well I gave up waiting and went out and a bought a 17" high resolution 2.6ghz 250gb, 4gb RAM MBP for several hundred pounds less than the retail price.
It's an absolutely fantastic machine. I came to the conclusion that with the deals on offer I was able to pick up a top specification current MBP but if I waited any longer I'd actually only be able to afford one of the lower spec Penryn updated models (if they ever arrive) on my budget.
I don't believe we will see a major redesign of the MBP until the next chipset. However I still think Penryn will be quietly launched some day soon.
Given some of the deals for MBP at the moment you could buy a higher spec current model that would negate much of the processing advantage of Penryn. Let's be honest here, I've got a QX9650 extreme processor in my desktop now and frankly for 95% of the things I'm doing with it, it doesn't feel much faster than the Q6600 it replaced.
I spend much of my time developing software and using some relative heavyweight software. Truth is for most users a desktop or laptop is limited by it's slowest component namely the hard drive.
