Hopefully next week the new MBP will be released. It would also be nice if the update came with a $100 or $200 price drop.

I wouldn't count on it in the States. From what I've read on here, Apple has kept the pricing consistent on the new models with the old ones. Although I'm sure there will be for Canada (where I am) due to the loonie being close to par with the USD (another reason for me not to buy MBP till the new ones come out).

ohh....and one more thing.....

i love bananas ...

Haha! Sounds like all the waiting's finally made you crack. Glad to know I'm not the only one going crazy waiting for this update.

I'm pretty certain that's not going to happen at all. They generally keep the price fixed, but add updated technology to justify the price.

Moreover, if they lowered the price on the 15" MBPs, especially the low end, it would almost be too close in price with the black MB.

I must have checked bestbuy.com 20 times in the past 24 hours and it has always shown all three macbook pro models.

For a while(last night) it was saying that the 15" 2.4ghz MBP was SOLD OUT. I was excited because that obviously points to a potential release of the new penryn MBPs in the near future.

Today when I checked back it says the 15" 2.2ghz MBP is BACKORDERED, and the 15" 2.4ghz MBP is in stock, shipping immediately.

What gives?! before it was sold out, now it's shipping immediately? huh!?

Really?

I searched for Macbook Pro on the best buy site, and I only got the 17" up. Believe I was able to fidn the 15" as well yesterday, but then it said it was back-ordered online, albeit available in some stores.

If you just search "Macbook" you will find the rest of them there. The "Pro" search for some reason only brings up the 17".

The only one I'm seeing that's backordered is the base model  as well as a 13" mb..

i really hate to see this thread next uesday, there may be many disappointed people lol

i dont know that for a fact, but we have been here before havent we...

What's happening with the Intel chips? I thought Apple had the choice of the top bins of the new crop? Have other manufacturers had delays in getting out Penryn based systems and laptops?

Yes, when I type "macbook pro" into the bestbuy search field, it brings up 8 items, the 3 laptops (2x15" & 1x17") and several laptop carrying bags.

Maybe it has something to do with me being located in Hawaii and they are only searching local stores? Either way, I get all three models listed when I enter a search for macbook pro.

i'll post a screen shot if anybody really cares.

Intel were /are having production problems.

This morning, the low-end 15" was backordered, the high-end 15" was sold out, and the 17" was shipping in 1 day from BestBuy.com

Now, both the high-end 15" and the 17" are shipping normally, and the low-end 15" remains backordered.

So, by this alone I wouldn't think anything of it, but Appleinsider reported that their retail sources stated that their supplies were dwindling, which leads me to believe that what we've seen on BestBuy.com today is not a mere artifact of everyday re-stocking or what have you.

I'm wondering; if the MBP update is released on the 19th, what do you reckon would be the shipping time?

I'm flying back home, MI, at the end of March for 2 weeks and I'm hoping to pick up my updated MBP at my sister's...

Since this new future MBP will be my first Mac, I don't need to say that I'm waiting for it with a lot of expectation.

However, for the members that are registered since 2 years or more, is it always like it is right now, a lot of people fully excited each time a rumor comes out, or if this time there is more emotions in the air ?

I'm wondering what benefit Apple could get by waiting to have this new update out ?

I am hoping along with you for a Cdn price drop on the MacBook Pro, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

Although it is worth noting that since about October or so, certain Apple software products seem to be priced at par or pretty close; Leopard, iWork, iLife, dotMac, Aperture 2, Final Cut Express 4 (FC Studio is still +$200). And more, you go look! :)

Can't say that for other software such as Microsoft Office 08 which has a $150 penalty for Canadians for the regular suite (didn't check home and student version).

The price gap on iPods is shrinking as well, in most cases around a $20 Canadian penalty where it used to be closer to $50.

The iMacs, Mac Pro, and MacBook Air are only sporting a $100 premium these days, that's an improvement over a year ago. Only the MacBook Pro is sporting a price based on 2001 exchange rates, +200 for the base models, +300 for the next two models.

So sure, they might drop the price, but don't count on it dropping to par. I think a $100 premium on the MBP is not an unreasonable expectation.

I didn't look at the regular MacBooks because they mock me with their integrated graphics card and I don't talk to them anymore.

I customized and ordered it online. I had a "need" for a new MBP and too many Tuesdays have led to disappointment.

Wouldn't you be really pissed if it came out next week though? I mean after waiting so many weeks where you could have already had the machine you have now. Just thinking out loud I guess.

I doubt the Macbook Pro will see a price drop...it's gotta stay above Apple's other laptops. They'll just as much as $2000 will buy us into the computer. Raise the specs, not lower the price.

Every time I see the dual screen displays connected to a MBP there's a clunky adapter attached. Why not get rid of the DVI and put two mini DVI's?

MB and MBP out of stock at ISU

I went to my computer store at Indiana State University today and found that they were out of all their macs, which isn't that big of a deal, since the volume they sell isn't as high as an apple store, yet, what was of interest was that they weren't able to get any in stock for a while. The retailer claimed Apple may be getting ready to ship out new models with better processors. They only had one Macbook Pro and Macbook and they were the display models.

The retailer is reading on MacRumors. :) With that said, I saw they recently removed the display MacBooks in a retailer store close where I live...

Please.......

Sadly, this occurrence seems unlikely if any of the rumors are true about the new MBP enclosures and trackpads. I imagine that Apple wants to make as a big a deal as possible out of these updates, so they'll save the announcement for the "big" event.

If the MBP update is small (i.e. only a processor upgrade) however, a 2/19 update is more probable.

I agree.. there won't be anything before the Feb event.. and I believe the MBP updates would be a disappointment for all of us waiting for BIG surprises. It would just be Penryn, no multitouch trackpad either (I think so.. I can't guarantee). I too am sick of so many Tuesday's passing by with disappointment. So no hopes till 26th (who knows if this date is confirmed as well ???) its just rumors... rumors and more rumors :confused::confused:
In my wait for a MBP update I got a MB 2.4 but eagerly waiting for the much awaited elusive Macbook 4,1. :D

Actually I've got a hunch we'll get an update this Tuesday. I went into my local Apple store this afternoon and they didn't have any 17" models available.

I've just sold my 15" as I want the higher res 17".

Look at the way the Mac Pro was updated a week before an Apple event. Apple tend to space out launch events over several weeks so as to maintain constant publicity.

I'm guessing a mild update similar to last June e.g. Penryn and LED's all round.

We need to remember that Apple rarely pre-announce updates unlike other notebook manufacturers who tend to flag an update several weeks in advance. As frustrating as this might be it usually means that when Apple announce an update it tends to be available to buy in their stores pretty quickly.

If we look at other notebook manufacturers most have announced an intention to move to Penryn. However due to the initial production issues relating to Penryn and the subsequent shortage most are only now just announcing firm release dates. These dates are all pretty much towards the end of February.

I have gotten my hopes up with the new rumors every week too. If there is a rumor that it is going to be next Tuesday... every week... then someone is going to be right, and they are going to get a lot more credit then they deserve. ;)

PS... on that note... I have sources that say that people are saying that they have heard that it is comming out this Tuesday or next, or some tuesday after that. (I think that covers everyting... right?)

I'm wondering what benefit Apple could get by waiting to have this new update out ?

Assuming there have been MBPs ready to go and sitting in a wherehouse somewhere, then the only benefits Apple could gain by waiting to release them, are:
A. Allow the Air enough buffer time of being in the spot light to gain a following and demand by the time they hit the stores.
B. Allow their own supplies and those of their 3rd party retailer to shrink and thus have reduced the amount of "old stock" on the shelves.
C. To allow nuts like us, sit hear and give them a nice dose of free hype by our postings here and conversation else where.

While A and B could be reasonable actions, I'm willing to bet Apple doesn't need the "free press" from the likes of us. They can probably afford to pay for their own marketing.

If you also include the rumored early production issues Intel had with the new Pryen chips and toss in Apple's desire to have OS 10.5.2 out and in the hands of the end users, those could also add to the delay of the launch of updated MBPs.
Of course we look at it as a delay, I'm sure Steve Jobs has his own agenda and didn't feel the need to contact us individually to ask what launch date worked best for us.

Now if Intel has its issues corrected and has shipped the chips to Apple, then the BIG question is when will we see the updates???
The 19th, why not? Could it be on the 26th with the rumored event that is supposed to be more than just the release of SDKs, sure why not?

Do we sit here and bitch and moan and guess, sure why not?

They're coming out, we know that. But we're also the ones working ourselves into a frenzy. So how about one big collective... breathe in, breathe out. We'll get out new toys soon enough and then we can all complain how much we hate the new updates. Then we can start speculating about the NEXT update. :D

the worst part is the waiting game for shipments to arrive when they finally announce the thing.

waiting for the new mbp to come out has been rough, but waiting for it to arrive will be even harder!
