You all know that you can already use the trackpad to single and double click in the mouse preferences right? I think it's a great move to remove the physical button and add more trackpad space for multitouch.

*slap* Feel that?

Exactly. Physical.

Looks like a $300 Compaq minus the extra ports/firewires. lol This is the "Pro" model ? Haha Well worth the $4000

Multiple Bits Of Proof That This Is A Fake

POINT 1: Look at the bevel on the edge of the lid on the official Apple invitation, and now look at the bevel of the lid in the "closed MBP" photo. These two bevels are completely different.

POINT 2: Look at the ports shown on the "closed MBP" photo. See the distance from the port closest to the front of the machine and the front of the machine.... It is too much space - looks disproportional.

POINT 3: Again with this photo - compare the ports to the photos shown on macrumors.com of just the aluminum frame... There is a picture of the frame on its side... showing the ports. Compare the layout and position and size relativity vs the picture of the "Closed MBP" from today shown on engadget.

Big difference.

One or all of these photos are fake - lets hope for the all.

Black keys look terrible and cheap (PC Like), and the no trackpad button would prevent right/ left clicking.... or at the very lease make it incredibly awkward.

My vote says - BOGUS

is it just me, or could there be a screen protector hiding a matte screen??? there appears to be some bubbling action possibly, maybe its just me

Well from all the speculations and everything... unless the top of the range macbooks are amazing... looks like i'm getting a refurbished current gen mbp.

Seeming as if i have a AU$2 grand budget i mosawell get the best possible computer out of it. And i doubt the new mbp's are gonna come down by even 300$

anyone have any complaints about the current gen mbps?

Cameras can do neat things. Go get your point and shoot, turn off flash, take the ISO down to 400 and take some pictures indoors in a low light environment. I guarantee you that some of your images will have that sort of effect.

Especially when you're JR, you crash Cupertino and do a snap photo as you jog by Steve's office w/ security guards on your tail.

Thinking about the lack of trackpad button, whenever I'm on a Windows PC I always find myself accidentally picking up icons through the tap and drag bizo that is on by default. I find it hard to use compared to a button - which makes you think Apple would had to have done something pretty special to "fix" this problem.

I hope the MacBook is updated to realign the products into a more seamless "family".

Has anyone stopped to consider that if the front panel of the screen is truly made of glass, offering a matte option would be as simple as applying the same anti-glare finish that was universally applied to high-end CRT screens?

Glare is the only drawback of full-gloss. Plastic glossy precludes such a coating. Anti-reflection coated glass is awesome.

I absolutely require a non-glossy screen, but could care less if that turns up as a coated glass screen or a matte plastic one, and I think that the former is highly possible (if not probable).

I maintain that Apple wouldn't dare alienate the graphics and creative pros that make up a freaking massive (if not dominant) segment of the MBP market.

wow

these look like the ****ing sony vaiofz

theyre stock is going to tumble if this is their new mbp

Notice how Apple said that MacBook Pros between sometime in 2007 and SEPTEMBER 2008 could be affected by NVIDIA's epic failure? That means that even after NVIDIA discovered and tried to hide the problem, they kept shipping faulty junk!

If you look at where the light is on the reflection the shadow on the top case is wrong. plus the screen looks very scratched for something that would have just come out of a box.

the ports on the side of the second picture look like stickers and the usb ports dont seem to line up properly. also the lid doesnt sit flush with the bottom which is one of the things apple prides its self on.

The case behind it is a macbook case, sure it could be from another laptop, but why put it there, if you have had time to open it take a picture. close it and move it then take another picture. also if you had that much time you probably wouldve made sure you got the actual product in the second picture and not half of it.

also i think micro/mini/whatever dvi is the stupidest thing in the world and is one of the reasons i regret buying macbook instead of a pro.

Also i cant see glass being used in a laptop, it would make it alot heavier that it needs to be.

How are you suppose to click and drag??? Well, start tap and drag! I seriously don't know what the big deal is you people are fussing about. Why do you oppose these existing features/gestures that have been available for years?
Well for one... I'm a Windows user that will be making my first switch into the Mac world.

Again, I don't have a problem with other people using features that they deem were available for years but there is two problems...

One... We Windows users have not experienced anything like this.

Two... Having a physical button and having these gestures is just not the same. Sure, to the computer it may be the same, however, there are some people who prefer a physical button versus all these gestures we aren't used to.

And to blame us and say to us why we're making a fuss doesn't apply here. It's just a matter of personal preference that's all.

I'm sure there's a lot of people (other than me) who would rather use a physical mouse button rather than solely rely on gestures all the time. Apple is really leaving us out cold this time...

Interesting, I really like it. I dunno what all the icks are about. Apple's new designs seem to be ones that grow on you. I wonder what the regular MacBooks will look like. Could we get a picture of one of those? Pleaase?

You know how this goes. Everyone will hate it seeing it from the cell phone picture but once its up on apples website everyone will ooo and ahh it. (Same thing happened with the iPod nano)

Also, for everyone out there whining about a pro screen with "gloss" on it. If your a pro why are you doing color sensitive work on a laptop screen? Everyone knows thats a big no no.

Screen connection...

Yes, I'd be rather annoyed if they took off the standard DVI connection. My dual-link DVI 30" monitor will be outdated then.

They call that a *pro* machine??? You've gotta be kidding. If Steve Jobs thinks this will fly in the pro market, there is absolutely *no* way. Glossy screen ≠ pro-worthy. Besides that, the tapered edges look icky, and the lack of a true DVI or HDMI port would be a major pain for most... those stupid dongles are quite annoying.

Surely they wouldn't sell dodgey ones again though would they? They'd just have to fix it anyway.

I was just about to say the same thing. The ports on the closed MBP picture are WAAAY too small compared to the size. It's ridiculous when you actually look at it. Even on a 17", that's outrageous. Look at it and tell me how many USB ports would fit on the side of that, and imagine your hand by it. WOW.

These pictures are bogus.

They sure do.. and that's not a bad thing.

They're damn popular, and if I was getting a PC laptop, I'd probably buy one of them. My girlfriend has one and it's nice, but no MacBook.

Having the choice is one of the things that made Apple special - and better than all the PC companies.

I am Pro-Choice
