Having the choice is one of the things that made Apple special - and better than all the PC companies.

I am Pro-Choice

If Apple has choice, then where's my MB dedicated graphics? Where's my MBP high-end graphics? Where's my MB low-end processor? Ect. ect. ect.

Apple's lineup is the most limiting in the industry.

is it just me, or could there be a screen protector hiding a matte screen??? there appears to be some bubbling action possibly, maybe its just me

Amen, brother. No doubt about it. I have the glossy screen on my macbook, and it doesn't come close to how shiny that is.

I can't disagree with you... I haven't looked into that... but I would rather have an Apple running Leopard than a PC running Vista any day of the week.

I hate that apple is so expensive, but the thing that keeps me coming back is the build quality of Apple, and the operating system.

Are you serious? Every apple computer in a lineup looks like the next. Whereas take a company like Asus, there are a bajillion models. Haha..pro-choice...really?

And if you mean choice as in CTO machines...uh..Dell?

Apple has nice products. Let's not stretch beyond that.

Surely they wouldn't sell dodgey ones again though would they? They'd just have to fix it anyway.

I have no doubt that the new machines will be fine. NVIDIA have already shot themselves in the foot... they're not going to set themselves on fire.

Apple doesn't seem to have the intention to foot the bill for NVIDIA's screwup... otherwise there would be a full recall. The issue is with heating.. so once it breaks, there's no fixing it. A friend of mine had his fail during intensive rendering, and basically, the situation is if you want the old MBP, don't stress the GPU. Either that, or get one still in warranty and buy AppleCare.

Looks hideous. No mouse buttons? What are they thinking?

exactly, i prefer mouse buttons, and the high reflective screen? lame.

prefer Matte.

Honestly, ill wait until tmrw. i hope there are some options on the configuration. ie to have matte non-reflective screen. and the option on blu-ray reading drive.

but no buttons on the mouse, not my favorite idea. but we can see where it goes. ie maybe it can be a lil writing pad on the macbook. like a art pad, to use for writing/art

Okay - I see your point. I guess I do not need a bajillion (is that 11 zeroes?) different skus to be happy. Apple has always provided me w/ what I need.

What they don't provide - I upgrade on my own.

How is this different than say Dell or IBM? Do they really offer that many more viable options for everyday users?

Apple tries to make the buying experience less confusing - and I don't have a problem w/ that.

Power button

Is there any chance that that 'unknown' round port on the side is the new power button?

If I recall correctly, when the new iPod nano came out, there was a rumor picture that looked exactly like this. Blurry photo with red text of a heart and two initials (if i remember they were JR, also). So sadly, I think this is the new MBP :(

I have to agree with that. Apple is a great company and it does things well... However, they're definitely not perfect.

Apple has wonderful products but so do a number of its competitors.

Black keys look terrible and cheap (PC Like), and the no trackpad button would prevent right/ left clicking.... or at the very lease make it incredibly awkward.

how does it look "PC like"? have you not seen the MBA? black keys and *gasp* silver case!

you people need a serious lesson in design/colour theory.

you can already right/left click on current (and previous) trackpads without the use of the button. so why would it not be plausible that they would get rid of the button altogether?

Your generalization seemed very wrong to me, so fair enough. Apple is scores above other PC companies because of the style and function of their computers...although, I think they def pushed for "style" in this rendition if its the real thing. Pro users need everything they can get for their line of work.

So you reckon all the refurbished ones will be fine?

Probably the heaviest toll i'll put it under is maybe neverwinter nights 2 if i decide to buy it, or editing video.

I'm surprised it took until page 19 for someone to mention this. I think it's real, and that's not a bad thing ;) As long as the touchpad is clickable.

Mystery photos - ???

I love these photos.....

Why such weird angles???

Why is it that only 2 images are posted. If this is truly the new unit - this guy w/ the "camera phone/ iphone camera" should have been able to get multiple photos.

As for the closed book shot - why such a horrible angle - one which leaves many questions......???

??? I guess I don't understand why someone would only snap and release photos that are as ****** as these.... and blurry..... ????

Doesn't make sense.

It's really interesting that the quote below hasn't been discussed yet;

"...they say the MacBook and 17-inch MacBook Pro aren't getting refreshed tomorrow, which we find hard to believe, but we'll see when we see."

Is it really possible that Apple won't announce the new Macbooks? Could the event be about only one specific model (such as 15" Macbook Pro as they claim). Someone please tell me that this is totally ridiculous and there is no way that Apple won't release new Macbooks tomorrow.

if Apple doesn't release a new MacBook at a MacBook event, then why have an event...

This is likely a case of facts being mixed up, just like what happens in the children's game "telephone." The more and more people that try to repeat the facts, the more mixed up they seem to get.

What they likely mean is that the MacBook might not be available right away, whereas the 15" MacBook Pro's will. The MacBook will almost certainly still be announced tomorrow. Remember, the spotlight turns to notebook"s".. It would be highly unusual if the updated 15" MacBook Pro was the only new notebook being announced.

Probably because he wasn't allowed to take these photos and leak them to the internet...I would be spylike if I took photos too.

Not a big fan of the chicklet keys, nor the black border. Makes the MBP look very loud kind of and a little..too much. I like the current gen's low profile, quiet style and seriousness if that means anything.

I think that in the picture the trackpad button is there but its really hard to see. Apple wouldn't make a trackpad without a button, dragging without a button is really annoying and not intuitive at all.

I think I've come down with something.

For the past week or two, I've been scouring the web for information on what Apple will be introducing today at 10AM PT at the Apple Campus in Cupertino, California. I've been reading through rumors, viewing mock-up photos, and assessing the veracity of alleged spy-shots. The search proved fruitful at most points, till I suddenly realized something.

I think I've come down with something.

Steve Jobs has infected me - A curious little infection that will take a significant bite out of my earnings from now into, most likely, 5 of my future lives.

I wasn't always an Apple Fanboy. I used to think that MS Windows PCs delivered everything I needed, and I honestly believed the Blue Screen of Death was a standard in the computing industry. Yes, we've all pulled out quite a number of strands of hair from our well-manicured heads at the very instant the BSD would flash on screen. Mind you, its timing is impeccable. It happens just when we're thinking of saving the document we've been working on for the past few hours. I really thought bald heads and late reports were the norm.

All this changed when 2 of my friends, BJ S. and Audie E., introduced me to their Macs. I met iBook in 2003 through BJ, and iMac in 2004 through Audie (And yes, referring to them as if they were people is intended). To make the story short, "iFell". The Mac OS Panther interface was eye-candy. The lines we're clean. The designs were faultless. My credit cards and wallet were in for a major bashing.

Now, after 1 iMac, 1 MacBook, 1 MacBook Pro, 1 Airport Extreme, 1 Airport Express, 4 iPods, 1 iPhone 3G, and all the accessories made for them, in the year 2008, here I am - Infected.

I must blame my friends for introducing me to such well-designed artifacts, the Apple Marketing Department for knowing exactly how to hit people like me, and my weak character that gives in to every magnificent redesign and groundbreaking invention that Apple throws my way.

I've come down with Apple-itis, and it's a wondrous infection.
