Glossy

In a few years, I feel myself carrying around a Mac Pro as a portable machine...

I think its fake

It must be a photoshop job, plus the picture is blurred, why do they always make it blurred in the first place LOL. The person who took the picture could of at least took a really good camera with him/herself like an EOS 400D, to take the photo lol:apple:

Oops, here's the MB side shot next to the image...
Still doesnt match, MB or MBP.

we are trying to compare three laptop models, but have pictures of only a fraction of these. My guess is that the previously published good quality pictures of the sides by the korean website only show Macbooks and 15" MBP's. If this sideshot from Engadget is the first 17" picture than none of the previously published pictures can match with it.

To everyone pointing out the uneven blurriness from left to right and strange transparency on the left part:

Cellphone cameras like the one on the iPhone have to scan their image from top to bottom, or left to right depending on the sensors orientation. This process takes a few milliseconds. In low-lighting condition, this process is slower, which means that motion-blur could happen only on part of the picture if you are moving/shaking only part of the scanning process.

The kind of erratic motion-blur on the left part of the first photo is typical of this artifact.

To those who say that they won't buy a MBP if it's only offered in glossy:

Did you know that you can buy self-adhesive screen protectors with a matte finish that could fix your problem for a few bucks?

Why would the difference of 15" MBP and 17" MBP make them change where the ports are? I really dont think it would change. I'm not a laptop guru and wouldnt doubt if I'm wrong though :p I just know imaging.

I argue it's fake because the fact that the "new" image has a lack of ports compared to the supposed 15" MBP. Bigger computer I would think same / or more ports.

I for one LOVE the new design.
It looks like a fusion of iPhone/iMac design, and looks really nice!
I guess if I were to nitpick then I would have chosen the old MBP keyboard over the new Air keyboard.. as the new one looks somewhat non-pro lol.

I also don't know what all the fuss is over the glossy screen. Every one of my laptops has had a glossy screen and I would never buy a matte screen.
I like the color saturation of glossy vs matte, and I can get around reflections and such..

fugly.

why does it look so thick?
and the whole screen with black edges is really not portable looking.

not bothered by track pad with no button though.
i have not used it on my macbook air once.

Sure, I will buy a $1999 (minimum) laptop and put a sticker on it? For $1999 you should get options..

In many cases matte screen is the only way to go. I personally prefer glossy, but I can understand the reasons why people would prefer matte.

Anyone know if JR's pic of the nano's were real or fake? Have only seen two post's one on either side.

They're fake. The orange nano (real) photos was about before someone slapped JR on it, and the "leaked" green nano that was only available with JR on it was close to the real thing, but definitely a fake.

Its growing...

So its growing on me. Nevertheless its not a very business machine.
:apple: should just have one type of computer but you make everything your own way.

good god I hope this is not the new MBP. Glossy screen seems like a bad idea. I'm hoping that the fact that it has no power button and the speaker grill is hard to make out show's that it's fake.

I hope this is just a very VERY blurry picture, or even a full-on fake. If the new MBP looks like this, I don't think it will be for me :(

Don't care about the mouse-button, but the whole black-glossy thing is just soo 2006.

  • Different logic board layout?
  • Ergonomy?
  • More ports on the 17"?

I don't know the port layout of the current 17" and 15" but I can imagine that these slightly differ.

What is strange about this photo that the notebook is blurred - and it looks like motion blur to me and not simply an out of focus blur - while the background is not blurred. So hopefully this is not the real screen.

I would hate the iMac gloss (reflections from glass) on my notebook, while I could potentially could tolerate a plastic glossy screen - they seem to be getting better with their anti-reflection coating...

By the way, you think the EOS 400D a REALLY good camera?

Why all the complaining about Gloss

Quick question to all those that are complaining about glossy screen. What were you complaining about when you where using CRTs with a glass screen that was glossy?

I am assuming that LCD backlighting is good enough these days to over come reflections not to mention all the anti reflective coating this would have received...no?

the first pic is a legit macbook pro with a plastic sheet on the screen.
the bottom pic is iffy. to me the display is longer then the bottom body piece.

gap

Know what else bugs me bout this image? The fact that the glass screen looks so inset from the Alu. lid. Would not that **** be perfectly flush, as on the iMac? I am super skeptical about these images. They just don't seem to exude the class that I (and basically everyone in here) expects, although, as some have said, the tend to look better in person. I will also agree that there is a very good possibility of a protective film over the screen. And where is it even hinging? (I have an old Ti book, so I'm not as familiar with the looks of the current folding mechanism, but I don't see a hinge part for the screen). That gap around the screen... Man, that's really bugging me.
