Sure, I will buy a $1999 (minimum) laptop and put a sticker on it? For $1999 you should get options..

In many cases matte screen is the only way to go. I personally prefer glossy, but I can understand the reasons why people would prefer matte.

If I bought a $1999 laptop, I would sure like to protect its screen...

I'm all for options, and I can also understand why people would prefer matte screens, but it's not like it's the end of the world, and it can be fixed. It's not ideal I admit, but people are talking about not buying because of that, and I find that pretty ridiculous considering the solution I proposed.

fugly.

why does it look so thick?
and the whole screen with black edges is really not portable looking.

not bothered by track pad with no button though.
i have not used it on my macbook air once.

Why must everything be so thin? I rather have a slightly thicker laptop for PERFORMANCE. then just looks and "wow" factor. The air sure hasnt turned heads and made an impression.

I dont know if its been mentoned but anyone noticed the second pic the box shows diferent colors. Reminds me of the old imac ads from 1998.

I don't get all the complaining.

If you like the new design, buy one.

If you like the old design better, pick up the old one at a reduced price.

It's win-win!

I'm not going to read the whole thread, but did we establish that the first picture is probably of the Macbook Pro, while the second one with the lack of firewire 400 is probably the Macbook?

Quick question to all those that are complaining about glossy screen. What were you complaining about when you where using CRTs with a glass screen that was glossy?

I am assuming that LCD backlighting is good enough these days to over come reflections not to mention all the anti reflective coating this would have received...no?

I think there is glossy and there is glossy ;)

I have used the glossy MacBook Pro and I liked it very much because it had excellent anti-reflection coating. I am now typing this on a glossy iMac with a glass screen and I would hate to have the reflections from on the road (it is OK in the house where I can control the lighting).

So, if the new MacBooks will get a glass screen (as it looks in the picture) reflections are becoming worse and I would not like this...

If that's a legit photo then i can't see how matt would be an option. Clearly the glossy glass covers the black border.

If there was a matt screen option then there would be nothing to keep the screen flush with the black borders?? And the matt and gloss option would need 2 different screen cases to adjust the housing for the glass bezel on the glossy model so there was no lip on the matt model.

It's either a fake, or matt option is gone in my opinion.

Um, or, like i said earlier, they could coat the class with an anti-reflective film! That's how it used to be done when all screens were made of glass.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

it's a iMac screen on a MBA keyboard... Some asked for fake mockups in a earlier post and someone did it... Big deal! I can't believe everyone thinks this is real! Look at the left and right sides of the screen.. Compair the widths... It's a decent fake but there is a lot wrong with it...

another thing is people, quit complaining, your all acting like this is the real deal. So what if apple insider confirmed this is real? Is it real or is it real?

none of us knows for sure, untill we hear from steve we cant be sure.

I'm sure there will be a BTO or even a pre-bulit model with a matte display.

Now I wouldnt be surprised if they turn up looking like this:

That's just the thing - every high-end CRT proofing monitor that I've ever used or owned came with very expensive anti-glare coatings applied to the glass to make it usable. They use similar coatings in eyeglass lenses so that they don't glare out in sunlight (I have a pair of glasses both with and without this coating).

Properly coated glass or plastic can be good. It remains to be seen whether or not that kind of care gets applied to these displays.

Fugly

Ouch, that was fugly. Black keyboard, huge black bezel, glossy screen!? If I wanted a Dell I would buy a Dell. If this is it then it's a nono and I guess that I will have to try to get my hands on one of the old ones. :(

Wow it looks bare ugly. The black/bezel glossy screen looks great on the iMac but for some reason seems REALLY out of place here. Why didint they just go with the Air design....simple and clean. Looks like i'll be sticking with my 12"PB/iMac combo a while longer

Also they surely cant be thinking of eliminating matte all together on a Pro machine

I can't picture Steve Jobs giving his ok on that design... Gotta see it in person I guess. It looks like a crippled iMac like this.

Just back from lunch and I see this!? Oh my...

I think it is like the first BMWs with that Chris Bangle 'flames' style (eww!); or those Audis with the huge single frame radiator grill (omgwtfbbq!) -- takes some time getting used to. I like Audis now, still trying to get over BMWs. Maybe Apple will tone in down in Rev B? ;)

why wouldn't he give the ok? what would be so exciting about introducing a new line of notebooks that look exactly the same as the old ones?

Trackpad is a button

A little theory.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but i was not keen to go through all these comments

The blackberry storm has a multitouch LCD screen that u can click. You place your finger over the icon on the screen and press down to click.

My theory is that the new macs would work in a similar fashion to blackberry's new touchscreen phone.

MacX.cn has posted a series of higher quality images of the new MacBook Pro case that was originally posted last week. While there had been some doubts about the details of the blurry photo, these new images show every angle of both the MacBook and MacBook Pro cases.

Additional photos depict the left, right, and underside of the cases. A few observations

- The optical drive appears to be on the right side (when facing the laptop)
- All the ports are on the left side (when facing the laptop)
- Case does not appear to be tapered like the MacBook Air
- Power button is in the top right corner
- Large trackpad

looking at the trackpad area, it looks like it is designed to fit this theory. I've thought about how wonderful the blackberry storm's clickable screen was compared to the iphone's, and this could be a stepping stone for apple to apply this in future products as well. This method would revolutionize notebook input. working with graphics programs like photoshop sucks on a trackpad. This would make it amazing to work with.

i reckon since it's a multitouch trackpad, that placing two fingers while clicking would register as a rightclick.

One question. on iphones, 3rd parties sell a stylus that works on the iphone's touch screen. Since apple uses the same touch technology on the multitouch trackpads, would this stylus work on the touch pad, giving me a quick portable alternative to using a wacom tablet for input?

On the stylus thought, maybe it's pressure sensitive? CAN you imagine the possibilities of a clickable multitouch trackpad with pressure sensitivity? That alone is an innovation that would make me drool over the macbook pro. (hey you know those three extra holes on the 15 inch macbook pro over the 13 inch macbook, possibility= pressure sensitivity on macbook pro, no pressure sensitivity on macbooks)

if true, then "I WANT" :D

Guess i'll have to wait a few more hours :D

check out sony laptops if u guys are crying too much about the mbp design and shopping for a laptop purely for case design because we all know thats the main reason of getting one. The mbp looked like crap since it ever came out so you guys are really really saying the previous models look better?

flame bait?
You just don't seem to get how this cult works, do you?

I guess I'll not be replacing my MacBook Pro just yet. I can't stand the overly reflective glossy screens and I absolutely must have a trackpad button. I never even turn the trackpad tap on I hate it so much. The lack of a button is a complete deal breaker for me.

you guys are expecting way to much. id this is true you'll all be rushing out to buy one because steve says so

The usual apple response.

"It's hideous"

(days pass)

"It's ok"

(weeks pass)

"It's beautiful"

(months pass)

"nothing could be better"

(product update)

"WTF? I'm sticking with the previous version!"

hehe, exactly what i was thinking. add to the list, "Alright, I actually saw it in person at the Apple Store. I take back what I said" ;)

I think you totally misunderstood my point. And it has lots of basis. It happens all the time. Facts get mixed up all the time.

I think you totally misunderstood my point. I'm agreeing that it's a fact mixup and the prospect of one being released and not the other is absurd.
