Noooooo and Yeah. It's ugly! Thank God. I can keep my current one. Phew!
What were they thinking with the black bezel. that AWFUL glossy screen and that hideous black keyboard...yuck.
Tech specs I do like...but it is not the spectacular MBP I hoped and feared for.
This better not be a mock up and tomorrow they present some super MBP which will send me into bankruptcy...

WTF?? Glossy screen arrgghhh!!!!! Looks nice though. Seriously whats with the no trackpad button thing, its kinda worrying me.

The screen on the Macbook in the first picture looks really scratched up. Why would it be all scratched if it were a brand new machine?

I absolutely love the black bezel. Its really going to make the screen pop and look great. Good job Apple! You have a new customer!

what the F apple!!! i have been waiting for months for a MBP and this is what i get c'mon

NO GLOSSY VERSION NEEDED
MAKE BORDERS THINNER DAM IT.. need more visual real estate!
If this is what comes out tomorrow... i guess i would have to wait for another year for a better version!!! (i might as well stick with my MB then and buy a external screen .. instead of getting the bigger MBP-my reason for getting it, with a matte screen!)

wow i'm surprised you people don't like it. i think it looks fantastic, much nicer than plain-looking aluminum. at least i won't have worry about these things selling out woohoo

There could still be a "button" for the trackpad. It might just be hidden like on the Mighty Mouse (where you can left/right click but there is no line on mouse to seperate them)

im actually happy apple took it off
really wanted them to finaly make that move

i guess were all different

Yeah, I personally like the feel of a clickable button.
I have my trackpad set to accept taps as a click, but I prefer to click an actual button.

Given that I've never even SEEN a current MBP with a glossy screen, I can deduce that :apple: sells a helluvalot lot more with matte screens - and it's a big differentiator for the pro market. Graphics pros won't buy glossy, as it'll be nigh on impossible to calibrate it against whatever second monitor they're using for design and proofing.

Apple knows this. There will be a matte option, even if it's BTO (though I'd be stunned if it wasn't available stock).

Calm down.

And seriously, with regards to the trackpad button, I rarely use the mechanical button - I'm a tapper... it's way more effortless and intuitive (in the context of a trackpad) to give a light little tappity-tap than to ker-chunk my thumb down onto a button. Looks like this'll enable them to provide a bigger trackpad surface while allowing the TP surface to remain relatively similar to the aspect ratio of the screen. Bigger TP = more precise control = awesome, as far as I'm concerned.

It's a fake!

<Senator Vreenak Voice> It's a faaaaake!!!

Really though...

- Unnecessarily blurry, even for a camera phone.
- No apparent click button
- No apparent power button
- Severe 'overbite' on the closed lid photo
- Bad Photoshopping of the card slot and mystery port (as seen in the previously leaked photos)
- Dodgy box (White is normally for MacBooks, but the black handle for MacBook Pros)
- iLife '08 logo on box - There's a possibility of iLife '09 being announced.
- Engadget won't mention their source! Not even 'a trusted source' or 'an anonymous submission'

Any more reasons why it's fake?...

SAY IT: IT'S A FAAAAAAKE!!!

Fake.

Top Pic: Note the asymmetrical front corners and hinge, as one would expect when an iMac lid was dropped behind the photoshopped keyboard, and was covered by an incompetant Clone-stamping. Also, note the power button is missing the location it appears in the leaked shells.

Bottom Pic: Overbite, bizarre lighting, painted-over ports

Just like they removed the floppy and the cd drive (from the air) they removed the trackpad button for more multitouch space and less hardware problems like stuff getting under the the button. I'm guessing they can also make the laptop thinner without the button hardware stuff. Now that I think about it, this is a very risky move. I can imagine some people won't buy it just because it doesn't have a button. Apple sets more trends again!

btw, why has my post disappeared off the front page of this post? I posted it and even saw it on there after the page refreshed.

I'm pretty confident this is real.

I really don't like the new look, at least in these PRE-RELEASE pics...

Apple, please don't disappoint me!
Ive owned your dear laptops since the iBook and changes like this are really hard to cope with, especially when it seems like the current ones are perfect.

Nice, but . . .

A nice evolution but . . .

1) No Firewire 400 is a giant issue for me if it is lacking. I have far too many firewire 400 cases laying around, cases that travel with me, and USB 2 is far too slow for my needs.

2) Design is nice, but I don't see it as radically more compelling, or even more compelling than my 17" MBP 2.6ghz.

3) The Gloss, I'll weigh in. There should be a matte option; if not, my 2.6ghz MBP just got a lot more valuable.

Guess we'll have to wait and see the specifics.
