the MacBook Pro will have firewire 800. theres a reason it says newbie under your name.

kiss it. lacking firewire 400 is an epic failure as well. sorry i didn't specify the type of firewire.

and before you try to sound smart, yes i know there will be adapters. but it will be a pain.

... and the trend continues.

People speculate for months on end, getting more and more excited as time nears.

Then as a spy shot is revealed, or even after the event itself, we hear "I hate it", "It is ugly", "Apple is going to go under", "Apple is crazy if they people will like this.", and many other similar negative comments.

In a few weeks, most will change these statements to "I knew it would go over well", and "Damn, this looks great."

Woah, iMac introduction all over again. When the aluminum iMac launched, it seemed like everyone thought it was ugly until they saw it in person. I'm guessing the same thing will happen here.

It's really interesting that the quote below hasn't been discussed yet;

"...they say the MacBook and 17-inch MacBook Pro aren't getting refreshed tomorrow, which we find hard to believe, but we'll see when we see."

Is it really possible that Apple won't announce the new Macbooks? Could the event be about only one specific model (such as 15" Macbook Pro as they claim). Someone please tell me that this is totally ridiculous and there is no way that Apple won't release new Macbooks tomorrow.

A nice evolution but . . .

1) No Firewire 400 is a giant issue for me if it is lacking. I have far too many firewire 400 cases laying around, cases that travel with me, and USB 2 is far too slow for my needs.

you dont need firewire 400.. just one of these cables

since u can chain all devices, whats the problem?

I really dont like this new look for the MBP... hopefully my current one can last another 8 years until the next design refresh!

Won't happen. They cannot update just one model and leave the rest hanging. That would kill the product line even more.

<Senator Vreenak Voice> It's a faaaaake!!!

Really though...

- Unnecessarily blurry, even for a camera phone.
- No apparent click button
- No apparent power button
- Severe 'overbite' on the closed lid photo
- Bad Photoshopping of the card slot and mystery port (as seen in the previously leaked photos)
- Dodgy box (White is normally for MacBooks, but the black handle for MacBook Pros)
- iLife '08 logo on box - There's a possibility of iLife '09 being announced.
- Engadget won't mention their source! Not even 'a trusted source' or 'an anonymous submission'

Any more reasons why it's fake?...

SAY IT: IT'S A FAAAAAAKE!!!

Example of the photoshopping. You can clearly see where's it's been brushed over.
However the first pic looks real. Blurriness and all:)

Well I think it's great

I'm actually getting quite pumped for this. A black bezel is exactly what the MBP needs. It will frame the picture nicely and show off your stuff. I also went for a glossy screen on my last MBP because it makes your blacks look blacker and everything is deeper, when you can control your surroundings. In most cases, I can. I don't believe they've removed the button on the mouse pad. I think it's just hard to see at the angle (and blurriness) of the picture. I would be bummed if they actually removed it. As for the black keyboard, I love it. I hate the plastic painted silver on my current MBP. It looks very XP/MS Office. Painting plastic to look like metal is tacky.

I only recently changed my mind about getting a new laptop, because I usually use my computer in my office and think a powerhouse Mac Pro would make more sense. This new one might get me if a new Mac Pro doesn't come out soon, though.

I hope this is it.

I havnt posted anything in a while but i had to for this. I dont care what anyone else says. I think this is the best looking laptop i have ever seen. I love the black around the screen and i love the glass! It makes it look so nice and stream line. I dont think i have seen a notebook like it anywhere else.

The usual apple response.

"It's hideous"

(days pass)

"It's ok"

(weeks pass)

"It's beautiful"

(months pass)

"nothing could be better"

(product update)

"WTF? I'm sticking with the previous version!"

exactly! tell me about it....

and as far as the technical side of it goes, apple makes some mistakes, sure, but let's wait for some explanation. i dont think apple is stupid enough to strip away the features everyone is complaining about. it's just 12 more hours....

Chill

There will be a matte option. Based on the volume of these apple has moved in the past, and apple always making very carefully calculated moves, there will be a matte option. Just because Mr. Blurrycam happened to sneak a picture of a glossy screen doesn't mean there won't be. Relax. I know it looks like glass covers the bezel too. Stay calm and have faith. You're only here on macrumors at 10:45PM before a product launch because you believe in this company.

And who knows, there's probably a trackpad button in there somewhere, either integrated invisibly into the trackpad itself a la mighty mouse or just a bad camera shot.

Personally, I'll wait until tomorrow before selling whatever I own to buy the new one.

How do you highlight text without a mouse button??

You can do this presently with the trackpad, however it is slow at best.

Productivity replaced for esthetics, what a shame.

There is an iSight present. There is a power button, its flush with the case.

Glossy screen like the rest on here, means I will stick with my present SR MBP.

Lack of a mouse button, maybe the entire trackpad can be clicked, similar to the click-wheel.

I like the idea of the black bezel - and it looks like it is a flat cover, not set back and much better for dealing with dust? That would be pretty appealing. Looking forward to seeing what comes of it all!

All true!

Continue to approve of posts that echo what you want to hear.

Even years from now, a glossy screen won't be as good for people who actually do any sort of pro-level work on their machine, including photographers who need to edit. We don't all use our machines strictly for emails, Word, and Facebook.

So no, this isn't a case of "Ewww....new design is ugly. Old design was better." The old design had a matte screen, and IF there is no matte screen option this time because they went with glass (or whatever), then it is inferior for all practical purposes.

I absolutely love the black bezel. Its really going to make the screen pop and look great. Good job Apple! You have a new customer!

Not gonna look good next to my cinema display though. Well, it doesn't even matter if it won't look good, it's distracting.

Looks like every other piece of crap PC. I like the monotone look of the PB and MBP. Theres a reason why every commercial uses them as a model, they're the most visually appealing laptop on the market.

I assume they look at the best numbers they can get, their sales numbers. Seriously, do you think they would get rid of the matte screen if it outsold the glossy? I love the glossy screen, I've never had an issue with glare despite using it with large windows behind me. In the meantime, you are able to get deeper blacks making all my pictures look much better.

I will be pissed if they drop the firewire port though...

Isaac

I work in an apple store buddy and let me tell ya.....we sell waaaaayyyyyy more matte screens than glossy...

  1. The two pictures look very different to me. Completely different color temperatures = different locations...
  2. What is with people screaming "OMG GLOSSY?!" MBPs have always had a glossy or matte option. This one happens to be glossy.
  3. Black bezel is no surprise given the latest iMacs.
  4. No trackpad button would be great, but I doubt it. Probably just smaller like the Air's button.
