This is something you wouldn't say if you bought one... I got a new 13inch and you can't compare it too an HP or whatever...

I own a UBMB 13". It's too expensive for what it is. It CAN be compared to other products. It SHOULD be compared to other products. Other products that would be cheaper, faster, better equipped, more ports, the ability to plug into a 30" display and have it actually work, a webcam that might be in focus, a screen that doesn't show fingerprints so hideously, a glowing light that sits there doing nothing but burning battery and making you wonder just how a laptop can be as inappropriately smug as a whole community.

Agreed. Don't ignore overall specs just because it looks pretty and runs OSX!

By Glowing light that does nothing though, do you mean the big glowing :apple:? I always figured it was just the back of the display backlight, so is always doing a very useful thing when it's on!?!

Need Quad Core & 16GB +

For those of us who travel some and need to run large virtual machines, or other extremely demanding apps; I would like to see 4 SODIMM slots for 16 or more GB RAM, quad core processor, no optical but 2nd drive, maybe SSD like the iMAC. and LightPeek. Optical is going to go away, it is just a question of when; many movies on blueray now come with a digital copy, that will increase timed or other downloadable mechanisms will replace optical.

I am waiting to replace my current 2.53 MBP, come on Apple!

Re: Quad Core Questionable

Agreed, it would be nice to have a powerhouse MBP offering, but you pay a price, literally and figuratively.

Take the Dell Precision M6500 I just bought, an absolute beast of a machine (2X SSD, 16GB RAM, quad-core extreme, etc.), but what a tank, weighs almost 10lbs, and the "slim" power adapter is huge and weighs 2lbs itself.

While the machine rips, the thought of traveling with this heavy load is less than appealing, going to return it and hold out 'till December for MBP CPU refresh.

Apple is playing it smart, why go quad-core when it will require a huge power brick and redesigned case to keep the machine cool? Most users will be more than happy with performance of i7 dual core.

I just wish you could order an MBP with a Fedora/OpenSuse/Arch Linux OS option ;--)

Man, I'm getting tired of wating for news on the next MacBook Pros. Do you people think they'll give us something at this week's media event?

I'm very close to actually needing a new MacBook Pro, for professional reasons. October at the latest.

Should I buy now? The possibility of a GPU renewal is too tempting...

70 days 'til average refresh and 10 months for longest refresh so between November-February

When?

Im waiting for the new macbook pro, (not the one released in April this year). From the mac buyers guide its seems to look like it will come out in October this year, as it has before, but i'm not convinced. I want the 13" pro, does anyone know when it will come out? Definite? I hope it's October I want/need one really bad. Also does anyone know if it'll look different?

same here, was waiting for an updated 13" pro. couldn't wait any longer and decided to take the 15" (April 2010 Model) instead. I would expect a minor update to the MBP 15" model maybe a 2.8 GhZ i7 later this year and a sandy bridge processor in 2011.

I am not sure about the 13" model though. My guess is that it will have to be updated soon as Intel will stop producing Core 2 Duo processors by the end of the year (correct me if I am wrong) . I would love to see a Core I processor in the 13" MBP alongside a high resolution resolution display option. I am just not sure whether Apple might skip moving to core I processors in the 13" model and straight away move to sandy bridge in 2011. any thoughts on this?

Some day a thin guy in black will breathlessly pull out a very thin MBP that has, as a feature, no spinning disks. There will be much murmering in the audience.

But, "look at how thin it is", he will repeat.

He will then pull out of his back pocket, squelching rumors that he had butt implants, an impossibly thin optional disk player.

Apple will sell millions of both.

Oh cool, yeah I hope there's an update soon because I need the 13" because I do allot of traveling. Do you think I should buy the april model or wait until the new one? I don't know for sure when the new one will be released either. This is so hard I don't know what to do. HELP! D:

First, who touches the display? Touching the screen of any kind other than touch screen is a bad idea, anything left behind has to be cleaned. If it was a touch screen, they would apply the oleophobic coating if that happens. Most other brands of notebooks have plastic cover layers, and there is more risk scratching them when touching or cleaning.

There is no separate light for the logo if that's what you mean.

I wonder how many people would plug a 30" monitor to a 13" computer. I'm pretty sure that my $1000 Dell can't plug into a 30", the machine was bought new a few months ago. I had the impression that it was a relatively new model, I'll have to check.

I'm not convinced that a lot of people use web cams. I ordered the Dell without it, I figure that by the time I need one, it will be time to replace the computer anyway.

thats it.

I've made my descision, after talking to an apple salesperson he said the new one will look no different to the MacBook Pro out now, and will possibly have the power of the iMac, Apple's dropping the 13" MacBook Pro which is the one I want to I've decided to buy the one that is out now, + i have no choice seeing as i don't like the 15 or 17" at all. I'm going to America next week and will be back in October so I'm going to buy the 13" MacBook Pro 2.66ghz, 4GB and 320gb hard drive for about $2000 + extra's like mouse and case the day after I get back. I'm sick of waiting for a laptop that will look no different. I'm so excited for my Mac that ill be buying today next month!! Anyone else who is in my situation waiting for the new one, either don't and get the one out now (because you're wasting time otherwise, if its going to look the same), or wait for the new one if you REALLY need the 3.4ghz processor or whatever, even though the 2.66 is more than enough and super fast already. Hope this helps :D

If you need it now, buy it now. The 13" is great, and the battery is excellent.

But make no mistake, the Apple salesman does not know what the next one will look like. They have had three updates without a facelift. That doesn't mean they will change, but I have a big feeling that the laptops will go 16x9, specifically the 13" so it can incorporate a slightly larger case for dedicated graphics. But again, we don't know. As far as speed goes, the next version will not be very different since there are no major processor bumps.

Should I hold out for an i3/i5 13" MBP? Don't really need one atm, but if there won't be an i3/i5 in a 13" in the next 6-9 months, I might as well go ahead with the 2.4 Core2Duo and save me the wait.

My god do I need it now! I have a 2.26ghz HP pavillion Dv5 at the moment... It freezes every 2 seconds (also because of crappy windows..) and It freezes for so long I have to take the battery out to restart it.. I've looked for a while and found Mac is the best, so Mac it is! :) I love the look of them, can't wait to use one for myself, I also have an iPhone so that will go great with it! The countdown is on, I'll post again once I get it on October 15 and let you guys know what it's like :) :apple:

1) Don't use bold, it is only there to emphasise specific words not the whole damn post.
2) If your laptop is freezing all the time when running Windows then you either have a hardware fault or you've failed to install a firmware update/operating system update/driver update.

I have a suspicion that the reason an i3 wasn't included in the 13" macbook (pro) was to do with the nvidia chipset. Apple wanted that chipset for its smaller laptops so it gets the nvidia integrated graphics (which crushes intel's offering), however currently it does not support the i3/i5 processors.

In the 15" and 17" lines, they're using an intel chipset, however this doesn't matter since they have a discrete graphics card. Due to heat/battery life/space issues the 13" can't have the discrete graphics.

As I see it, until this is resolved (it might be already, I don't know), Apple won't put the i3 in the 13". Either that, or it'll get intel graphics instead of nvidia.
