Yes there is! 2.4 is slower than 2.6, and I need it for school so I want the fastest ;)

A difference of 200 MHz won't be noticeable I assure you.

My god do I need it now! I have a 2.26ghz HP pavillion Dv5 at the moment... It freezes every 2 seconds (also because of crappy windows..) and It freezes for so long I have to take the battery out to restart it..

Reinstall Windows and I can almost guarantee your problems with random freezing will be solved. Vista or 7? Either way...since it's an HP it comes loaded down with HP's shovelware, and I know for a fact that they don't include a Windows DVD to reinstall, so here's what you do:

1.) Search the torrents for an untouched retail copy of Vista Home/7 Home Premium (whichever you have now.)
**THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL. Please don't report this post saying I'm "encouraging piracy", because if you follow these steps, it is perfectly legal and acceptable, and not piracy.**
2.) Burn the ISO to a DVD.
3.) Back up your files.
4.) Boot from the DVD, wipe your hard drive, and do a clean install of Windows.
5.) Look on your computer for the Windows license sticker, and type in the key at the Windows activation screen.
6.) Go to HP's website and download the correct drivers for your notebook.
7.) And you're done! Enjoy bloatware-free Windows while waiting for your Mac. :D

No thanks, I'm not doing that, I'll only have this HP for another 27 days then I get the MacBook Pro. I don't like Windows AT ALL, it's not as professional and organised as Mac, That's my personal opinion but your's is obviously different.. However thankyou for telling me :)

Really no point in getting the 2.66 13". Just get the 2.4.
Yeah true, but the 2.66 includes a 320GB hard drive instead of the 250GB on the 2.4. Hmm I'll ask when I buy it, I still think if this laptop is going to last me for a while, I should get the fastest, Especially after using Windows all my life, I don't want ANY more things freezing or lagging.

What heat issues? Laptops as thin as the MBP and with the kind of components as the MBP will always run hot, it's just a fact of life.

Most of the reviews I have seen have said that the current MBP are hotter than their predecessor. The cooler the laptop feels in my hands, the better.

I'd rather just skip this update if it means we'll get Sandy Bridge by March 2011. Not that it has to be either-or.

Use your money to get a good Intel or a SandForce controller SSD then - far better use of your 200+ dollars upgrade to the 2.66.

I don't know about other users on here, but from my experience of an i7 MBP, you still get freezing, you still get lag at times as well. Just because it is an Apple, doesn't mean it is some super duper wonder machine. Yes, it has a cracking OS, but the hardware capabilities are still the same. My MBP regularly freezes on me when I'm doing really intensive work on it, and I expect it to. Would I go back to a Windows machine, probably not, but to expect different is like wearing Apple tinted glasses, be realistic.

I still prefer the mac to windows as some apps are better run on macs. Stuff like adobe photoshop were created on the mac platform, and rewritten for windows, which is what i don't like. Then there's the all time favourite iMovie that can create great movies in an instant with miraculous effects effortlessly. To me, I still love my mac, and I'm never going back to windows, ever.

i've been building PC's since the 1990's. you will never notice the difference in speed between a 2.4 and 2.66.

the aluminum body is meant to be warm since it's supposed to cool the internals without making it thicker to put fans in there.

Oh my, I guess its only the 15' and 17' who's gonna get all the lovin' again. The 13' left to die. Its already quite a huge gap in performance terms between the 13' and the rest of the pack! I wonder why can't Apple just do away with the superdrive and cram all the goodness of core iX and Nvidia in. We'll all be happy then, since we're not gonna get blu-ray anytime soon.

the 13" is meant to be getting a refresh next month,,it's annoying as I don't know if I should buy the 17" now or wait till they refresh the 13" as im sure they will upgrade the 15" & 17" too :(

If the case is hot, so are the internals.

Apple laptops would be a lot better if they were a bit thicker - the "thin obsession" leads to compromise after compromise.

And, scary as it is, many Apple fans think that "thin" is better than "good".

I guess chances are the refresh next month will most likely be just a speed bump and we'll still be sticking to the C2D, and no core iX for the 13', because the mainboard for the 13' is already jammed up with components and there's barely enough space to accommodate an extra Nvidia chip for discrete GPU and a core iX (which has IGP). Heat issues are to add to the problem. The only chance we'll see a core iX in the 13' is if they redesign the whole board, or better still, remove the superdrive, give the board and battery more space under that hood.

Blah blah blaahhhhhhhhh.

I know no one knows but when do they roughly announce the updates during the month? Beggining/middle/toward the end?

Also, it doesn't mean they will be available straight away does it??

One thing's for sure, whenever Apple announces something, it's going to be pre-order first. Then it takes quite a while before it arrives neatly at your doorstep. The thing about which part of the month it usually is released, I'm not sure but I guess there's no fixed date? We'll have to consult the rest of the forum members on this issue, but chances are, Apple will release it whenever Steve thinks its good to go.
