It's too quiet in here.. Aren't there gonna be people posting in here throughout the entire night like during the MacBook update, saying "US STORE IS DOWN" then 20 mins later "UK STORE IS DOWN" and so on, and then "OH GOD WILL THEY HAVE A TOUCH SCREEN? SANTA ROSA?". And then a few hours later, "Oh my God... This is the best they come up with?! THAT'S IT, I'm waiting for Penryn."

Don't let me down, guys.

Thanks for that link...that really put in perspective.

I am going to order one of these laptops first thing tomorrow morning when the store goes back online.

Does anyone know if it will ship tomorrow if I order right as the store goes back online (early in the morning)? I am going to get the one day shipping option...I am also going to get a 4gb Nano (considering that's the one I can get for free after a mail-in-rebate) and a .mac membership. I hope to have it here by Thursday...does that sound reasonable?

The New MacBook Pro will feature a Power6 dual-core processor running at 4.7GHz.

This will annoy anyone using Windows on their Mac, but the new MacBook Pro will guarantee to overheat and burn a hole not only in your bank account but also your lap :p.

On a more serious note...
Since so many resources were poured into the iPhone we won't get Santa Rosa or Robson. Hell we'll be lucky to get a higher capicity 7200 RPM Hard Drive as an option on the 17" at this point.
The real update on the MacBook Pros: Slightly faster CPUs, ability to add more than 3 gigs of memory, slightly bigger hard drives, and a wait time of another 6+ months for Santa Rosa, Robson, OLEDs and HD.

the only way to upgrade processor is to move to santa rosa. There isn't a ton of engineering to make the upgrade over the current system. Just swapping a few chips and a couple of drivers.

Won't be able to get faster CPUs or more than 3 gigs of RAM unless they use Santa Rosa. Napa won't do it.

Some people here need to do their research before going out and posting their predictions.

They can't bump the processor speeds without switching to the Crestline chipset (Santa Rosa).

There is no 2.6GHz Merom yet.

This IS a significant update, it's not just going to be a "cpu speed bump".

This update is going to bring a full 64-bit chipset and processor, 4GB of RAM, and a faster FSB.

One of the biggest features of Santa Rosa that is overlooked is the fact that if you're running a single cpu-intensive singlethreaded app, the new Crestline (965) chipset can shut down the second core and clock up the first one (for example, the 2.4GHz can clock the single core up to 3.4GHz).

It seems like some people just don't know what they're talking about.

I, for one, am hoping that Apple doesn't change the form factor. I made the brilliant move (or was it a mistake) of already purchasing a tight-fitting sleeve for the MBP I'm waiting to buy. So I'd rather not have to return/sell that one and buy a new one. But all the features you can cram in are fine by me! :)

Someone was talking to one of the employees about buying a macbook pro at a store in Detroit on Saturday, and I heard him say they were out of them but would be getting some soon. I know employees don't usually know if it'll be an upgrade by any means, but it's a shipment of some sort and he knew it was coming.

No store in Detroit sells Macs!

You're seriously trying to tell me there's no store like a Worst Buy in Detroit?

I live outside of Detroit and used to live in Detroit and it barely has grocery stores in it. There are no upscale stores in the city, well maybe for clothes.

No Best Buys, no Circuit City, no Apple Store, no Compusa, no Office Max, No Office Depot............ I know it is sad but it is the truth. Out here everything that is good is in the Suburbs!

Man I really hope for the back to school promotion to kick off tomorrow if nothing else... I'm waiting so I can get some cash off a video iPod and be able to ditch my Creative Zen player, which doesn't speak apple.. But i have to say, I'm digging the specs I'm seeing and depending on price/if they introduce a new form factor, I might be swayed from buying a blackbook  I don't have any real finals tomorrow so I think I'll stay up and see what happens:D

Yes, there is 2.6GHz/800FSB Merom: (Page 11)

Other OEM manufactures are not releasing it probably due to heat on existing thin laptop enclosure. We'll see if Apple will break the norm tomorrow!

The current OSX doesn't support switching off one core automatically until either 10.4.10 or 10.5. People have not realized Apple is trying to hold off for better upgrade upon Leopard release. It's not necessary the best interest on Apple's part to follow everything that Intel releases (e.g. turbo memory). From historic record, Intel has released a lot of insignificant incremental updates that sometime turn out to be worse than the previous generation. Consider the TDP!!!

The only significant upgrade on the new MBP is if Apple includes the new LED screen standard on SR, a 13.3" SR MBP, or higher end GPU (65nm), anything else is insignificant just as CD to C2D. Intel can say what ever about 965 chipset, it's just less appealing than Intel P35 mobile chipset (Montevina Platform) that is due around Q1 2008.

even in malaysia here, which the time zone lots faster than US, is 12.30pm overhere, nothings shows up, really disappointed me again and again after so many weeks of rumors...

maybe i shall just go for the Macbook, since they had the almost the same specs as mbp had now...
i been holding my order to the local retailer since months ago and yet when the proposed time for a mbp to upgrade replaced by a pre-early upgrade on macbook...

when we have to wait till the new mbp will come out ??

Umm... If it does come out tomorrow, it won't be for another 8-9 hours or so...

I'm not complaining about the price, but I guess I am..

Since Apple's been equipping their Macs with Intel chips since Jan. '06, where are the lower prices that were oh-so-mentioned? I love my PowerBook but man, I want an Intel so bad. That possible $3k price tag is horrific. It'd better have something completely over the top for that kind of money.

You're reading it wrong. The T7700 is 2.4GHz clockspeed, and with IDA it can go up to 2.6 (I said 3.4 which I was wrong about).

Additionally, I believe that the IDA is mostly hardware based, so it doesn't need os x drivers to work. I could be wrong though.

had to register just for this hype, im getting really excited. If this is true does that mean were going to have 512 mb video cards in the mbp? If so this is a huge update with or without santa rosa, which is in the upgrade it seems.
