I believe you're looking at the wrong number. 2.4GHz looks like the Merom max to me.
Yes, 2.6GHz is the IDA (Intel Dynamic Acceleration) frequency, but not guaranteed at that speed. 2.4GHz will be what's marketed from manufactures.

You're reading it wrong. The T7700 is 2.4GHz clockspeed, and with IDA it can go up to 2.6 (I said 3.4 which I was wrong about).

Additionally, I believe that the IDA is mostly hardware based, so it doesn't need os x drivers to work. I could be wrong though.
Yes, IDA is hardware based, but the core idling must also be handled by OS.

uh oh, smells like another macbook-esque update on the wind. That would be pretty disappointing. They almost have to do more than that to keep up the gap between the pro and consumer models don't you think? It seems to me that the macbook would really cannibalize the MBP sales if they don't...

7 minutes till we find out!

How is that disappointing?! Although I would've liked to see LED screens.

Again though, this is just a rumor. We don't know until we see it tomorrow.

Did you expect more speed from just a slight bump in the FSB?

Sure just ignore the entirely new platform.

I tell you i expect more that this. Apple seems to be getting behind the times and doing it at a higher cost. For the money we spend our specs should trump anyone else, but when a $1500 dell comes close to the $2700 Mac in specs, I see something wrong with that.

with the exception of the video card there isn't really anything apple can do to speed this up. they are using the fastest memory the chipset supports, including 2 GB of ram, fastest processor intel makes etc.

For the 10,000th and hopefully last time, an Intel mobile processor faster than that DOES NOT EXIST, and WILL NOT EXIST until Penryn.

(I think.)

same here, but hey $1200 for a backlit keyboard isn't bad..

don't get the complaints about the processor speed - 2.4 ghz - isn't that the fastest Intel has to date? And realisticly - is it relevant to release for example "flash-disks"? LED will probably arrive sometime autumn 2007 - no?

what I hope and believe is that by making this "spec-bump" (instead of speed-bump) Apple is making way for new stuff at WWDC. What might have the biggest impact? - a totally new iMac with high-end specification...please :p

Relax central-timer. It's still MONDAY over here on the west coast.

Updates don't take place right a midnight anyway. Usually around 5 a.m.

well what the heck am I staying up for!? I'll see you guys in the morning :p I gotta get an iClock or something so I'll be in sync with apple time.. maybe it'll come with bluetooth and an update tracker...

[Sarcasm]I hope Apple manages to keep the same enclosure design for 5 years. They're going on 4 now, and it's still as fresh as when they came out[/Sarcasm]

Seriously, 2.4 is fine and the graphics is fine, but to keep essentially the same design since 1GHz 17" in 2003 is a bit lame for a company that prides itself on innovation. I'm typing this on a 17" MBP so no hate.

12:02 here and all is quiet, methinks we've been duped mates:(

just in case this wasn't posted ironically:

first of all, apple is not located in the central time zone. like all good things, it's in california, pacific time. it's 10:09 here.

secondably, 12:01 am has no significance to apple that i'm aware of. products usually launch in the morning.

No LED LCD? Nvidia 8600M GT is a 43W 80nm chip, hot and power hunger! ATI X1600 only consumes 17W.

It's actually 70MHz to be exact! 2330MHz (667 Merom) vs 2400MHz (800 Merom)! No wonder Apple doesn't care to release SR platform ahead of other manufactures.

Apple should at least offer 120 or 160 7200RPM HDD as default.

WOAH. You're right. 43W. That's crazy. That seemingly would kill battery life. Unless there's something else to make up for it. . .
