Looks like it's time to leave the MacRumors forum.. Sadly judging by all the recent articles it seems like the comment section / forum is completely overrun by whining millennials. It's horrendous to see over 90% of all the comments on a article like this being complete and utter nonsensical whining nonsense. Seems like pretty much all hope about having any kind of sensible, respectful and adult conversation and discussion about articles and Apple products on this site is long gone.

There's a little problem with the tone of comments here: the new MBPs are selling like hot cakes, dongles notwithstanding.

These are fantastic machines. Sticker price is high, but residual value will be sky-high, too. Grow up.

+1. The amount of off topic posts is nuts. Seriously does every thread need to have endless "witty" comments about dongles?

Site needs some moderators to get it back on topic.

I'm curious to see what the touch bar looks like in person, but there's no way in hell I'm buying a computer that requires ten different dongles. I'll wait until they catch up with PCs and just make whole display a touchscreen.

Are all the people complaining about the dongles, still wishing they had 5.25" floppy disks, parallel ports, television tubes, etc? Please move on. I love that the new MBP has 4 modern connectors. In a year, all peripheral devices will be USB C.

Thing is, in a year nothing till happen. By the time the industry might have considered to adopt USB C the MacBook pros will be obsolete. Abd the difference between floppy drives and USB A, well you can't really make that comparison. USB A is a de facto standard today and will be for many years, while floppy had some severe limitations and had to go.

But who wants one, that's the question...

Obviously Plenty do. But there are those who disagree. But make no mistake, it will sell well and already has. Many have waited a long time for an upgrade and this will still suffice for many of those who waited.

So many complaints about the dongles. I've got a few HDDs (Lacie) I'm just buying new cables for (USB-C > USB Micro B) which is cheaper than buying multiple dongles. I've been using card readers since 2010 anyways so I'm just buying a USB-C > USB Micro B cable for that one as well. I'm still a professional photographer, tho...

I believe Apple is not making huge profits on its MacBook Pro line (at least compared to the iPhone line and iPad line) and that they are trying to bolster their profits. One of the lessons that businesses seem to fail to grasp over and over again is just because you are not making huge profits on a product does not mean that the product is not essential to your business. Apple is starting to cut off their pro users. This will turn pro users away and with that they will start to lose business in not just their MacBook Pro and Mac Pro lines but that will bleed over into losses in their software business and other product and business lines. This will become a snowball effect which will eventually lead to Apple becoming irrelevant in the electronic/computer market place.

Seriously though, are they really cutting anybody off? The typical business laptop I've had to deal with in the past 15+ years is so awful that people in my company are switching over to Macs in the hundreds, now that is is finally possible. And I have to tell you, to the actual pro user the price really means nothing. We were paying 2500+ euros for our POS Dell and IBM laptops. Now we are paying 2500+ for MacBooks and the contrast between what he used to have is pretty clear. So basically for the pro users that I deal with this price difference means nothing. Losing three billable hours to having to deal with some PC ******** covers the difference in cost easily.

Ive always wondered about the lack of moderation here actually.

Also any one looking to be original posting a "witty joke" or pointless "take my money!" comment needs to know the are the 300th person doing that already and it amuses absolutely nobody.

USB C will be quicker than that, all the more because of these machines.

And your comparison is selective and lopsided. You could also say floppy drives were absolutely a de facto standard and were for many years, even after Apple dropped them. USB A has severe limitations and has to go.

Exactly, do people think they are really, still and after all this time, being funny? The weirdest one is the endless reference to sheep. Endlessly calling people sheep like everyone else already did is surely the very definition of the sheep behaviour they're referring to!

The worst thing for Apple is for us to look around at other laptops. I've looked and I found some that I definitely fit my price range. I may not get everything that I like, but I won't feel like I'm grossly overpaying.
How is this bad for Apple? They DO NOT WANT business in lower price ranges.

They probably have a stock of prepared answers, recited several times in a backroom presentation to staff, ready to diffuse all customer questions.
These are not customer questions. This whining business is getting so idiotic, you can be 100% sure that none of them are customers or have any intent to become customers.

Right... there is no way he could just mean, he does not want to get ripped off right?
There is no way he means that. Because nobody is pointing a gun at his head and forcing him to buy, so all this talk about being "ripped off" is nonsense.

No it won't. By the time the industry adopts it (if they ever will) 'these machines' will be in the ground.

Thing is even if the industry adopt it, the real world will still lag behind.

Remember mini display ports? aka thunderbolt 2, well that didn't work out that well. People are still connecting to projectors with ***** vga and dvi, it's only the last 2 years I've seen a wide spread adoption of at least having mini dvi/displayport cables widespread. If you are someone who travel and see conference rooms etc technology is not changed that very often for the sake of cost and compatibility. But then again, if you're only using technology for your own sake and connecting to your own devices i guess you're fine.

The argument is you're paying for **** you can't really use properly for the sake of being in the front.

And in 4-5 years when usb C is closing in on becoming de facto, usb d or whatever is the next thing will be the prospect and this circus continues.

I've seen companies do it over and over again. Sure they have $570 Billion market capitalization but that was built under Steve Jobs. How is that market capitalization going to look after 20 years under Tim Cook?
Actually, they didn't have $570 Billion market caps under Steve Jobs. Maybe half of that. Market caps has grown enormously under Tim Cook.

Evidence? To my knowledge Apple hasn't released any sales numbers to compare initial sales of this model to that of the previous. Apple has said it's outselling but wasn't model specific. No one can honestly say it's selling "like hot cakes" or "it's a bust". We just don't have any numbers to support either position. People are entitled to their opinions though - they are just that.

But regardless the tone here it mimics critiques of the MBP offered by the professional tech reviewers -- I think Joanna Stern summed it up in her review she liked but didn't love it. If this was the new Air or MacBook it would be fantastic, but yes, people have higher expectations for a top-of-the line, premium priced laptop. This MBP is lacking built-in utility. That is a fact. Some don't care, but many do. You can't dismiss them just because they do.

prior momentum.

There is no such thing as "prior momentum" in the stock market. Today's share price is based on buyers' expectation of future growth. The share price five years ago was based on "we assume x years of growth". So five years of growth will leave the share price unchanged - it goes up if after x years people expect _more_ growth in the future.

So how does this entire industry move forward? You describe a situation where nothing becomes de facto before it's obsolete, meaning everyone has to use dongles forever no matter what choices anyone makes. In which case this choice is the best possible one to be made. Certainly Apple has a harder time dragging the industry to a position than it does among its own products, but like ever other time, the industry gets there quicker when Apple leads the way.

Sometimes it do sometimes it don't, firewire died, usb a prevailed, thunderbolt 2 kinda died but it was the great hope for mankind.

True, but AAPL hit its high in May 2015. It sank about 20 points and has been flat since. All the growth between 2011 to 2015 was with Steve Jobs products. Tim Cook was just at the right place at the right time to get the credit. But nothing he has done himself has lifted Apple's market cap.
