For those of us with a 5:11am FedEx scan in Japan (Osaka), I am pretty sure that we just took off with FDX 90 to Memphis, as the scan time lines up exactly with the departure time of the flight (and the 1:11am scan time lined up with the 1:11am departure of the previous leg of FDX 90 from Shanghai to Osaka). So we should be in the U.S. in about 11 hours.

For those on FDX90, keep in mind that there are delays in Memphis. Here's the ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) info for right now in Memphis:

MEM ATIS INFO R 2054Z. 04006KT 10SM SCT250 21/08 A2997 (TWO NINER NINER SEVEN). VISUAL APCH IN USE RY 18C. SIMUL DEPS IN USE RY 18R 18C 18L. NOTAMS... THE ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY FOOT CRANE NORTH OF RWY 27 IS UP. RWY 18C GS OTS. RWY 36C PAPEE OTS. BIRD ACTIVITY RPTD IN THE VC OF THE ARPT. READBACK ALL RWY * HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. RECAT WAKE TURBULENCE SEPARATION STANDARDS IN EFFECT. ALL ACFT CTC GC FOR PUSHBACK ONTO TWY N OR TWY J.. ...ADVS YOU HAVE INFO R.

To translate: Information Romeo, taken at 2054Z (Zulu = GMT without DST, so this is at 4:54pm EDT). Winds northeast (040 at 6 knots), visibility 10, scattered clouds at 25000ft. Temperature and dewpoint are in C, so 21C/8C, barometer/altimeter is 29.97.

As you can see the runways in use (landing south, 18C, departing 18L, 18C, and 18R), and any obstructions. However, wake turbulence separation standards are in effect there, which is because all heavy aircraft (anything over a maximum takeoff weight of 300,000lbs) has to be laterally separated in the air at a further distance than any aircraft that has less than that. In this case, the separation for heavies is 5nm. All B767, B747, B777, A300, A310, A340, A350, DC10, MD10, or MD11 are considered Heavy.

Because of that, if they don't meet the window they had in departing RJBB, they'll not only be delayed in getting to KMEM, but they'll also catch any other delays that KMEM has. So I could see this getting in a good 1 hour after scheduled. Only thing anyone can do is wait and hope that the pilots catch a good tailwind. It's a B777, so they're ETOPS compliant; right ow, if anything happened, they'd have to turn back to Japan, but if all looks well, they'll enter the US about 40 miles west of Seattle/Vancouver.

I bet ours is on the same flight landing in Miami. Same ETA for me except I have before 12:00. I'm in South Florida.

Waiting for that next scan arrival in South Florida!
That’s great! Here’s to hoping it delivers sooner ?? I don’t mind the time though, am already used to late night deliveries with Apple, everything I have ordered has arrived at my doorstep past 10PM ?

I don’t think I’m ever pre-ordering again. I’m still waiting on my MBP to arrive. It’s too easy to nab one in-store on launch day.
I think this makes sense if you're going with one of the base configs. If you're doing any customization / BTO's beyond that, Apple Stores seem to very rarely get any of those in on launch day (except for a few of the "Ultimate" configs, fully-loaded, with 64gb memory etc.)

Pre-Covid, you could pre-order, but choose in-store pick-up. That's what I did with my Late-2016 MBP - and I way preferred that so you don't have to play the waiting game with delivery / carries. Was a bummer they didn't offer the in-store pick-up this year, presumably because of Covid, they didn't want so many people crowding into the stores on launch day.

Very informative! We need you for iPhone launches, please. I’m out here recruiting!! Your expertise will be appreciated by many!

Will do. Question though… did you setup as new or did you migrate or setup from a backup. I thought about setting up as new, but I want all of my settings to carry over.
Set up as new, I can't turn off iCloud Drive, I don't even use iCloud. ???

Keeps saying documents are uploading when I go to disable it in iCloud, then it freezes, have to force quit it. ?‍♂️

Are you turning off True Tone for a more direct comparison? I feel like my iPhone display is cooler than my 14"'s display with TT enabled on both devices but they seem pretty comparable with it off. Granted, I don't have an iPad (Pro?) to compare against :)
True Tone is off on all my apple devices, it's the first thing I do.

I'll give it time, maybe my eyes are adapting to this new display.

Update:

I give up!

I just did an in store pickup for the same exact 14-in base config laptop because I am certain that UPS isn't coming today to deliver my laptop to me!

Is there no possibility of picking up your configuration in store? I am so sorry, that truly blows. ?
After a while on the phone with Apple support, it looks like there’s an amicable solution. Somehow UPS damaged the box to the point the contents are likely crushed. Evidently something heavy slid off a shelf and landed on my MBP. I had a BTO (14” M1 Max, 32G, 32 Core, 1TB). They were able to locate a similar configuration but with 2TB and are overnighting it to me at no extra charge. I can live with that. Oh yeah, using FEDEX. I insisted ?

I would say that is an amicable solution yes
