For my needs the M1 MacBook Air has been outstanding. Truly a wonderful machine and at the price, damn near hard to beat. I plan on holding on to this for years.
I agree with this that AIR! I bought just to have because i was in between machines, and its so impressive hard for me to give up for a "new" 14" especially given i paid 850

Any chance the MBA gets an update alongside the MBP? I'm wondering if the MBA gets a M1X while MBP gets M2? I'm down for a 14 MBP (although might want the 16 if ports are slim), but my wife is more than happy with a MBA. Trying to figure out if we should wait a few more weeks (she's about to be without a comp).

I believe MBA update will happen in Spring 2022 event. See below, please.

I'm ready to switch from my Dell to MBP 16. I'd love a 17 as I've been a 17" laptop user for years. But willing to go 16 which is close. I want 32gb / 1TB SSD but will see all the new prices and what they include. I just switched from a Samsung Note 10+ to a 13 Pro Max. So laptop is next. Will still be windows for work but tired of windows at home. Last owned a mac in the 90s with OS 7.

Since this is my first MacBook purchase in a loooong time: the M1 Macs were "available today", directly after the keynote, right? Does anyone know if you can buy them then with edu discount?

Definitely requesting a 16" for work, I've been waiting to request a new machine until these are out! Might pick up a 14" for personal use, but I have the last gen intel, i7 quad, MBA, which should last me quite a while longer so prob not unless I repurpose the air.

14" for sure. I only ever tolerated the 15/16" because of the additional graphics power, but now with M1 the internal GPU is going to be more than enough. The extra inch of screen real estate will be just enough for 1680x1050 scaled to feel a bit more comfy.

I do wonder what they will do (if anything) to differentiate the larger model. Or maybe the price gap will just be smaller.

I’ll wait and see what’s released. I like the form factor of the 13 inch that I have, so I’m leaning towards the 14 inch. If they release a Mac mini with the same chip, I’d probably go with the mini.

I guess we’ll see what they do.

I am! 15 inch 2012! Maxed out processor and graphics and upgraded the ssd and ram myself to save a boatload. Planning on going with a 14 inch MacBook Pro. Finally time to move on.
such a beast outdated but damn it’s been reliable

Not following this ? Keynote today?

So is the 19th now out as a MacBook event given Google have announced the pixel 6 event for then?

I could see next Tuesday being good, because doesn't Apple have the history of always having events on the 2nd Tuesday of a given month that they have an event?

BL.

I wonder how MagSafe will work on this computer. Obviously it’s not going to be like the original MagSafe.

I wonder if it will be like the new iMac MagSafe but much slimmer
I bet it’s integrated into one of the USB-C ports in some way personally

This was posted earlier in this thread but looks like it’s more likely towards the end of the month (bar last year)

“The last three October events that have happened have been held on the following dates: Thursday, October 27, 2016; Tuesday, October 30, 2018; and Tuesday, October 13, 2020.”

Praying… we don’t have to wait till end of this month.
