What size screen MacBook Pro (2021) did you order?

Looks like I'm in the infamous black hole that is ZhengZhou now. UPS originally had my estimated delivery date as Nov 8, but once it landed in ZhengZhou, that delivery date has now changed to "We're figuring out your new date. Please check back tomorrow."

Oh well, Apple always said my MBP would arrive on Nov 15, so they probably had some idea this would happen and were smart to cover their bases.

Is the Max critical to your workflow? Have you sourced what stock is available in your local Apple stores? I want you to have your Mac NOW, not 2 weeks from now! This whole pre-order has been a disaster.
It’s a great question. The comps I work with in After Effects are usually ram destroyers, I’d easily eat up 64gb from my last generation 16. I also dabble with 3D (unreal, cinema4d) and edit multiple 4 and 6k videos everyday. I went all out because I felt like it was a solid replacement for the 5600m and went with 4TB ssd because I often filled my 2TB prior. I was hoping this machine would take me through 3-4 years, maybe beyond. I’m trying to solve my problem of getting a new computer every year so my wife doesn’t murder me haha. And I’m just honestly giddy for Apple silicone over the old Intel furnaces.

From what you've implied about your workflow, finding your configuration in store may not be possible. I would still suss out the inventory. You never know. And yes, keeping your wife happy is key to a healthy lifestyle. ?

Got home last night around 7:30p. Greeted the dogs - who were quite happy to see us, got the car unpacked, and then opened up my MBP. Still working on getting apps I want loaded back up - but quite happy with it so far.

A few observations:
  • Size - 14" is perfect for what I was looking for. I wanted performance & power with mobility. I'd eyed up a 13" MBP in the past, but never pulled the trigger. Glad I waited. Its not as chunky as I had envisioned it being with all of the pics/videos I'd watched thus far. Its quite comfortable and actually a fantastic size/weight/thickness combination. I hope our friends at Apple are over the whole "make it thinner" phase.
  • Screen - In a word - stunning. HDR videos on YouTube really showed off some of what its capable of. I'm floored. and I LOVE the thin bezels.
  • Battery - Screen on time now approaching 4 hours of usage at various brightness levels (letting it auto adjust). I'm at 70% and haven't charged it yet.
  • Magsafe - I'm so glad its back! Connected the cable to remind me how great it was - but haven't actually charged with it yet.
I'm so pleased with this purchase. Also - what notch? ;) In all seriousness, its really the best spot they could put it. For my usage, the center of the menubar is really ideal. It's been great fun to watch everyone's reactions and tracking on this thread.

My config:
  • 14" Silver MacBook Pro
  • 1TB SSD
  • M1 Pro 10-Core/16-Core GPU
  • 32GB Unified Memory

She’s been a trooper.

My long storied history minus an iMac or two that somehow fit into this tale of misery: All my woes started with the 2013 Mac Pro. Thermal issues galore. In 2016, the D700 blew up or something and Apple couldn’t fix it after 3 long attempts, so they offered to replace it with a refurb and I pushed them for a 15” 2016 MacBook instead. After 3 failed keyboards and thermal issues, they gave me the “fixed” 2017 model. After a failed keyboard and new top case I sold it for an early 2019. After another failed keyboard I was very happy to sell it for a 2020 refreshed 5600m 16”. It was honestly fantastic, but the end of the Intel era really biffed me and I feel like we could all do better, lol. Either way, my wife thinks I’m nuts and all of this was my doing. When I recently sold my Intel 16” and bought this, she just sort of seemed numb to it. Not good!

I get where she’s coming from. LOL!!! ☺️

All of my family, friends and work colleagues thinks that I’m nuts with my obsession. ? No matter how bonkers they think I am though, I’m the first person they come to when they have tech issues. SMH. I guess that’s what I get for converting most of them to Apple products.

Well, in whatever shape or form that you do get your config, I think that this model should be an end to your woes that began in 2013 with the exception of your 5600m 16”. This beast is fantastic, and I’ve not run into any issues so far although my use is nowhere near to what you do.

Remind me - do you have the 14" or the 16"? I have to say, the battery life of my 14" isn't near as great as the 13" M1 MBP that I ended up returning. It's still worlds better than my Windows laptop, but that 13" M1 MBP was really something else.
I have the 16”. The battery life is just amazing!

Woo hoo! Congratulations! It looks beautiful!

You change your mind more than I eat food. 🤦‍♂️ Lol

The magic keyboard without the numeric keypad is actually pretty small, it’s a very compact keyboard 👇

Couldn't find one during my shopping spree this morning and BestBuy and the Apple stores didn't open until 10a. I'm really questioning if I NEED the touch id keyboard with number pad or if I just want it because it's new and shiny. 🤩

The wireless keyboard w/number pad that I bought for my mac mini is working well and holding a charge without issue, so...

It sure is one beautiful keyboard. 👌
