My dad is planning to buy me new MacBook Pro 16" 2021 for High School Graduation. It's totally worth upgrade from my current MacBook Pro 15" 2016.

- Ordered 16" M1 Max/64GB/1TB on Dec 30 (US West Coast)
- Original delivery estimate: Feb 28 - Mar 11
- Credit card hold on Feb 19, no status change
- Credit card hold disappeared on Feb 24, no status change
- New delivery estimate received on Feb 25: April 14 - April 21, status changed to 'Preparing to ship'

Mine changed to Preparing to Ship as well. But not really sure if it is automated status change or if they are really preparing to ship it. Original ETA was Feb 28 - Mar 11.
Edit: Looks like they might be really preparing to ship. I used GC to make this purchase and my GC balance shows $0.00. It used to show complete balance until yesterday.

My 14 inch pro arrived today.

I have made my decision. But first, a warning to everyone.
For all of those BTOs that may be coming from China, when they are on their way up to Anchorage before hitting the US, they have to fly through oceanic airspace. While most of that route flies over Japan airspace, part of that oceanic flight that is northeast of Sapporo is actually passing through Russian oceanic airspace before being handed off to Anchorage Oceanic.
Seeing the given Russia/Ukraine conflict going on, while most countries have banned Russian carriers from flying through any other country's or bloc's airspace, that hasn't been entirely reciprocated the other way. So for right now, some carriers still have safe passage into/out of Russian airspace, but that could also change.
Should that change, not only will that affect all routing to/from Asia and the US, but all cargo runs to/from Asia, as well as contribute worse to the supply chain issue. No doubt that will delay deliveries of Apple products, especially any BTOs. So get those orders in now before any of that changes. Should people be waiting for the event coming up to put in an order, that's a nasty game of chicken to play. I'm already seeing dates for anything that is not stock/base models getting pushed back a good 30 days, so you definitely want to put in an order if you're thinking about it.
Now with that said...
I've gone ahead and changed my vote to the 16". Coming from a 13" MBP from 11 years ago, any update would have worked, as I'm already used to what a 14" screen would be. Portability isn't a problem for me either, as my SO already has the 2019 16" MBP. What actually got me were the thermals. I took the time over the past month at various Apple stores between the two here, one in Oklahoma City, and the one in Caesar's Palace to put their floor model 14" MBPs under load, and while the fans didn't sound like a B727 on its takeoff roll, I did feel the heat, and compared that to the same load of the 16", like some of the quick tests in various Youtube videos...
The 16" stayed cool.
That, combined with the speakers, and a $120 difference in configuration made the 16" a no-brainer. Order is placed, and I'm now looking at a 4-week estimated delivery!
Now... to decide on delivery straight here and watch the FlightAware fun, or delivered straight to the store for pickup...

My laptop made its way from Shanghai to Incheon to Anchorage in a matter of 24 hours. UPS says it will be in Brooklyn by tonight… we’ll see!
Today Apple tried to charge my card, but the bank (N26) refused. I have balance. I’m in contact with the bank.
Will Apple try to charge again? Or did I lose my place in line? I made the purchase in January and the delivery was estimated for 9-29 March.

Mine took that route too, then hit the Louisville hub before the twin cities.
Congrats !!! Hope it's pristine and stable as a rock!!! I saw some movement for same configurations ordered on 15th Jan (via reddit) ... I really hope mine ordered on 29th Jan can get some updates in the next few days, I'm starting the 6th awaiting week and it's not easy
mine shipped yesterday. hoping the March 14th estimated arrival is pessimistic. good thing as my 2019 mbp was stolen yesterday. turns out there is an inexpensive device that can identify cars with bluetooth electronics in them. hiding your device is no good. only powering down your gear can insure they cant detect it. on a road trip, had our bags in the backseat, they broke the window. sigh. be aware, dont leave powered-up equipment in your car.
