ipod settings for handbrake

derajfast said:
wow thats fantastic news.....can yuo tell me the settings you are using to encode? i usually do 2pass encoding, 1000 bit rate, h264 on my powerbook and get like 5fps tops, and around 15-19 on my 1.8gh g5 imac

i thought the handbrake build for x86 was only beta and not yet optimized?

please let me know your settings and stuff, either here or PM me

thanks

I'm encoding these for my ipod so I use h.264 at 768kbps (this is the max you can do), 2 pass encoding, default audio, and I resize the picture to 320 x 240. This look great not only on the ipod, but also on tv. This is the highest setting you can do for h.264 and it still work on your ipod. If you want even faster encoding you can use these settings with mp4, but the compression isn't as good as h.264

the hardest thing I'm finding to do is name the damn thing.... (I use beer names, can't repeat one I've already used... trying to find a good name from a dubbel or dopplebock... that whole dual core thing)

I have had the machine lock up on me once: I was in Front Row when I hooked up my DVI -> RCA/Svideo adapter. It sat in front row and wouldn't let me exit. I could get to dashboard but couldn't command+tab or force quit front row.

I almost wonder if it is because I had an "evaluation" version of front row on the powerbook that I pulled everything from, but I doubt it.

Ended up powering it down to get it back :(

man am I spewing. my MBP is miles away yet... rang my local appleshop. 3-4 weeks away yet!!! and thats for those who pre-ordered (me), I ordered two.

DAMN !#@$#!@ perhaps I should just not read macrumors for a month. haha

do you think you could do a regular encode not for the ipod with 1000kbps, h264, and 2 pass encoding?

you dont have to finish it, just like 2 mins, avg fps?

id be forver in your gratitude

I don't have an MBP but i have a very similar problem with my dell 600m (and many others ;) ). When its quite sometimes i can hear a weird buzzing sound but when i scroll a page or click it stops buzzing and when i'm where i want it starts again. Maybe apple gets there parts from the same place as dell  Wouldn't that be nice:rolleyes:

Interesting. Quanta makes Dell laptops too.

oh no, that's it.... sending it back.... :(

The sad thing is, I'm almost serious :(

It reminds me of alternator whine in a poorly done car stereo install... one of the most annoying things I hear. The more I use the MacBook, the more I hear it and can't stand it.

Apple better fix it (sorry, I can deal with flaws and whatnot, but noise out of a piece of electronics is something I can't STAND)

Too late, that was brought up, but it's name is:

Corsendonk :D

I've been troubleshooting the whine since it's realy getting to me, it seems as though it's only when the procesors are at idle, if there is a load on either of the cores, the whine goes away.

I posted here as well: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=374397&tstart=0

doing power conditioning now: pulled it off power at 8:30pm, it's 10:38 now with 5% left (6 minutes) I've had it on full screen brightness with wifi on until about 10 minutes ago when I turned the brightness to 2. With what I would consider average use the entire time (chating, surfing, etc.)

i had the same safari keychain problem on my sister's computer.... i just deleted the keychain and restarted... problem gone

nothing can block magnetic fields, but you can reroute them to a degree by encasing the thing t be protested in a material with high magnetic permeability.... it has to allow a lot of flux through it so the line prefer to travel through it instead of the hard disk

thin sheets of steel or iron reduce the effect of magnetic fields somewhat... kind of like the case of a hard drive

oh yeah, pics of the fun things I got in the mail today:

all these tests and times and stuff are great....but what about us budget buyers who got the 1.83????? I'm not really microcomputer literate so I don't know much about processing speeds, but how much slower will the 1.83 be than the 2.0/2.16???

sometimes you people just complain for the sake of complaining.....how does it being any bigger make it worse? seriously. and to say that you appreciated the same size of the screen borders on the older PBooks....do you own one? you do know that the sides are certainly thicker than the top border, or are you just trying to find something to complain about?.....i think its the latter
If you read my sig you would see that, yes, I do own a 17" PB G4. The side and top are close enough that it looks like a uniform border. Not so with the MacBook. Its distracting just like the huge bottom is on the iMacs.

And the power brick being bigger does make it worse. Unless you like carrying around bigger, heavier accessories in your laptop bag.

And about the complaining... get a life. This is a discussion forum. The machines are incredible in many ways. But I like the design of the PBs better.

If all components would keep pace with the increase in processor speed, the performance would go up by 9% or 18% respectively. In reality the 2.0 and 2.16 will accelerate the Macbook less, so you should be fine! Main question at this point is how much slower the SHIPPING of the 1.83's will be...

If anyone gets tired of the "whine", let me know. I'll be happy to take it off your hands. I'm deaf. :D

- the laptop gets very hot - uncomfortably hot - even when doing nothing

Oh no its hot!!!!???

I thought the whole point of intel was more performance, less heat, more battery life!!??

Was I expectig too much?
