No mic

Judging by the Bluetooth specs graphic posted a few pages ago, and the lack of a built in mic, Apple plans on making or marketing a wireless headset. A lack of mic is kinda lame considering the iSight is built-in.

The GPU in the MacBook is just as good combined with the added CPU power

The screen is an answer to market requests

Mic, I think the iSight has a mic...how else would you do iChats?....just look at each other...has to be a mic somewhere.

Kind of but a headset is better for echo cancellation when using vid conf type apps.

It does have a built in mic. There are two dots next to the iSight, one is a light indicating if the camera is on or off, the other is a hole for the mic. It's the same as for the iMac.

a real apple insider

 Last week I posted this: I was just called by Apple sales person, following up on an order. I asked when? He said he couldn't tell me, and did not know, but did say that on the 16th there will be announced a major product.....And he said my guess about what that might be was the same as his guess.....

Microphone Is Just Left Of The iSight Camera

I think that little hole to the left of the iSight Camera is the microphone. To the right of the camera is the green light indicating the camera is on. Unfortunately someone forgot to include this information anywhere on the iSight and Specifications pages. :(

Wow. £704 education price, delivered. DVI. Audio in/out.

Even with the stupid name, integrated video and x86 architecture, this is great value. Really, great value, considering the similarly-spec'd Asus/MSI alternatives. This (white, 1.83GHz) is my next upgrade.

Serious kudos to Apple for making me eat my words, and making dual core mobile computing affordable.

If you go to the individuals institution edu store the base price is £643

Dammit the black model is so sexy... a shame I would need to pay an extra 350$ to get that color since I have no need for the higher specs... :(

Loving it :) GarageBand here I come; the world had better be ready for Q-branch. And my first "digital EP": Undercover (a 5-song collection of covers).

Upping the RAM to 1GB, and HDD to 100...

And of course the stock drops....

Id imagine the stock dropped due to the lawsuit with Creative, and it'll go back up once Apple wins it ofcourse. News of the MacBook hasnt hit CNNMoney yet, once it does (and everyone else) Im sure the stock will stabilize before closing...

...i sure hope so b/c right now its at the price i purchased it at :(

That black one, they might as well call it the SpankBook!!!

Sweet!!!

And something that I ahve not seen mentioned. From the Specs:

"Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 x 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors"

Pairs Of Same Ram Size Do NOT Significantly Improve Performance

I'm no techie, but I thought RAM worked better when blocks are used in pairs (so a pair of 256Mb blocks will work better then a single block of 512Mb).

Why? I have no idea. Would any tech like to enlighten us? :)
Technically yes, but not significantly. Barefeats did some tests and found only a 4% difference at best. The good news is you really want 2GB inside and a pair of two 1GB sticks from Omni via Ramseeker are only $144. :)

NOTE: You must search for MacBook Pro ram from pop-up menu at top then click on the Omni Technologies™ Optival® PRICE of $71.99 to get the link to Omni where you will be invited to buy at that price. Any other path to there will cost you more - a lot more. :D

On the topic of price points, I did a comparison of the new MacBooks with Dell (the most comparable I could find anyway) and the new high end black MacBook is nearly $500 cheaper than the Dell. I included XP Pro, the full warranty (as well as apple care on the MacBook), and a 3-year sub to virus protection (because face it, it's needed). The white MacBook of the same spec is over $600 less than the Dell.

My point. You may be paying a premium for black, but you're still getting an amazing deal when you look at the big picture. Check it out for yourself.

Dunno why but I think this release is way more exciting than the MBP. Maybe something to do with the new(ish) form factor.

When it comes to it, the MacBook is actually a far more sensible upgrade for me than a MBP and it would have to be in black. :)

6 hours of battery isn't that great
and it is even more heavy than the iBook ! (2.36kg :O)

check this out, 15hours of battery life and 1.27kg, beat that !
