Marvelous!

Check out the new keyboard...

Keys seem slightly more rounded on the edges. Plus, look at the arrow keys on the bottom right. That's all new, no?

Anyone notice battery life?

I really loved the new Macbook. I'm glad that Apple has done a very good job here!

GO APPLE!!!

What's the dimple/hole to the left of the IR port then? I assumed it was the Mic.

I think the little thing next to the IR is the sleep indicator LED.

Also, I wonder how the speakers are on this thing, my friends iBook never sounded great.

Boy that new 24-hour a day store in Manhatten is gonna be swamped this weekend. What a hit this will be.

The stores won't have them for a bit. Regent Street, the flagship store in London, advised me to buy online.

Anyone notice the new "In Every Mac" list?
Maybe the days (or possibly day) of the Solo core Mac Mini are numbered?

Nice lineup, I think they found a good balance of pricing and features. Although I'm sure people will whine anyway (does it really matter to the whiners what apple releases?).

These are pretty loaded for a base model. Nice to see dual monitor support, and same ports as the 15. Makes a nice replacement for the old 12 powerbook and a bit of an upgrade to the ibook. Nice surprise that they start at 1.8 instead of 1.6. Integrated graphics will be fine, they won't matter unless you're playing games, these should be BIG sellers despite the whining. Black only in the top model is an interesting approach, gives people a way to show off that they have the upgrade.

My one big complaint - these won't run well with 512 ram. They should have a gig in all of them, it's an insult to not have it even in the high end config.

I hope down the road we do see an even cheaper model, even if that means solo and more stripped down for $799 or $899. Nice to see the bump for the 15 as well.

And best of all, the idiots who thought it would be ibook or imacbook can SHUT THE HELL UP. Come on, Steve Freaking Jobs himself announced that the names would all have MAC. How much more did it have to be spelled out for you? Morons.

I'm interested in seeing what the build quality is like. I am really unimpressed with the build quality of the ibook, and if the Macbook isn't better, I'll probably stick with my 12" PB as long as it does the job. The worst part of the ibook was the keyboard. Hopefully, it's not removable on the Macbook.

well - the actual difference between MBP and MB does not really reflect itself in the price. MB is really cheap if you compare with what U get out of a MBP. I just bought myself a 15.4" MBP and it super nice - but...MB is almost half the price - at least here in Sweden - and you get a quicker CPU...

and I agree with "milo" - there should be an even cheaper 1 core ibook for 899. Apple needs to have a cheap entrance laptop for switchers and others.

Features found in MBP not found in the MacBook:

- Expresscard
- Backlit keyboard
- Dedicated video-card
- All-aluminium construction
- Bigger screens with higher resolution

Overall, it's okay. About what I was expecting.

I have to say, I was worried I may be mad about the final rev. 15" PB purchase I made last month once these were released, but I have to say I'm not. Not at all. I'm glad I didn't sit around waiting any longer than I did.

On the topic of price points, I did a comparison of the new MacBooks with Dell (the most comparable I could find anyway) and the new high end black MacBook is nearly $500 cheaper than the Dell. I included XP Pro, the full warranty (as well as apple care on the MacBook), and a 3-year sub to virus protection (because face it, it's needed). The white MacBook of the same spec is over $600 less than the Dell.

My point. You may be paying a premium for black, but you're still getting an amazing deal when you look at the big picture. Check it out for yourself.

It is even more dramatic when you consider design aesthetics.

Core Solo Mini Will Be Gone Momentarily

Definitely. Not only is the mini underpowered (slow) now, Core Solo is an inappropriately obsolete offering now.

6 hours of battery isn't that great
and it is even more heavy than the iBook ! (2.36kg :O)

check this out, 15hours of battery life and 1.27kg, beat that !
so disappointed....

That's a single core ULV processor. Of course it's energy efficient.

I'd be very surprised if Apple didn't make something with Intel's ULV Core processors at some point in the future given the fus Steve made over the energy efficiency of intel processors when he announced the switch (MacBook Thin anyone? :))

These MacBooks are as good as anyone could have expected. Now I'm just waiting for most of my music and DJ software to be released as Universal Binaries. Waiting... always waiting... ;)

Are both sticks of RAM easily replacable? I think it would be cheaper ordering 2GB RAM directly, than "upgrading" from the standard from Apple.

Ableton Live already is....what are you waiting for? :)

hope so, i thought they will make the MacBook light and has good battery life, but now this Macbook seems like a low end MBP than an upgrade to iBook,

11.1" widescreen anyone :D

You've got to be kidding me. I wanted dedicated graphics, too, but integrated means longer battery life and less heat.

I bought Sony VAIO SZ1, similar specs to this one. Fully charged battery with wireless OFF and GeForce 7400 graphics gives me roughlt 3h:15min working time. Same thign but switched to integrated graphics gives 5h+.

The ability to switch is great though, but this really shows just how much battery discrete graphics eat out.

Is it worth upgrading to 1GB RAM (from the standard 512) through apple, or should I buy a 1GB stick somewhere else and install it myself?
Does that risk stuffing up everthing and/or voiding the warranty (i'm not particularly technically capable)?
