I think the black MacBook replaces the 12" PowerBook and the white MacBooks replace the iBooks.

Sell the 12" PB with the transferable warranty as a selling point. These are definitely a step up from the 12" PB - WAY FASTER, Bigger Higher Resolution Screen, Spanning, DVI, Gigabit Ethernet. Lot of reasons to make the switch now. If you are happy and can wait a little longer, I think they will be Merom in the Fall.sam10685 said:i'm kinda surprised they put a core duo in all of their not-pro user laptops... cool though! i'm also incredibly tempted to sell my 12'' G4 powerbook and get a black one but my powerbook is still under warranty and i'm afraid i wouldn't get enough $$$. any advice?
EDIT: also, where are the new ipods? i need a toy for summer.
Think about how much more you're getting for your $100 though.macEfan said:While, i think it looks really nice, I dont like the price increase... I dont get why apple is upping their prices on everything... I though intel processors were less expensive!Oh well, i guess it still looks nice though!

and it is even more heavy than the iBook ! (2.36kg :O)
check this out, 15hours of battery life and 1.27kg, beat that !

so disappointed....
This would be true is the black was smaller and lighter than the white, it isn't its just black with a large HD.ingenious said:I think the black MacBook replaces the 12" PowerBook and the white MacBooks replace the iBooks.
Black Keys Will Be More Visible In Low Light. There is a very good design reason not to offer backlit keyboards in this model - HEAT.slffl said:Can you imagine a BLACK macbook with a lighted keyboard? That would be nice! I really hate they hold stuff back so they can release it in later versions or to differentiate product lines.
Yeah, no problems.Elrond39 said:For someone who is going to be using GarageBand quite frequently (for music), and probably iDVD as well, is 1GB of RAM "enough"? I realize that RAM is important in multitasking.

The good: love the resolution in that size of screen - finally Apple puts enough pixels in a smaller amount of space
The bad: $200 for black is insulting considering this is Apple we're talking about - they've always been so good to me in the past, why become microsoft now? Pay extra for a plastic you have proven to me with my nano will scratch when breathed on? I think not. Sorry Apple, I love you, but I'm no sucker.
The ugly: integrated graphics is what killed this sale. I have been planning for over a month to buy the MB the moment it was released, but the integrated graphics just will not do - why would I downgrade from an ATI9200 to an Intel anything... maybe it's because I've owned intel cards in the past... I just cannot pay anything for an intel graphics chip - yuck.
Why limit yourself to only 1GB when 2GB only cost $144?Elrond39 said:For someone who is going to be using GarageBand quite frequently (for music), and probably iDVD as well, is 1GB of RAM "enough"? I realize that RAM is important in multitasking.
While there may be "no problems" for Palad, I strongly recommend maxing out to 2GB which is still NOT ENOUGH esp for something like Garageband and music and multitalking and . . . etc etc etcPalad1 said:Yeah, no problems.
If you are going to use analog instruments, I'd recommend getting a firewire soundcard though, such as this one: M audio firewire solo in the long run, as (on my powerbook) the integrated soundcard is not that great

Only if I can find that kind of deal over here in the NetherlandsMultimedia said:Why limit yourself to only 1GB when 2GB only cost $144?

Fall is 4-6 months from now. That's the only downside to this offering - short Yonah lifespan. But other than that, they are so cool. It's really a tough choice to have to make if you absolutely positively don't have to have it right now. Major test of patience. As someone wrote here recently:

You won't be saying that again once you discover that you can't plug in a regular microphone. You'll be paying extra bucks to get your iChat working. Evenmore since there is no built in microphone. May I point out to all prospective buyers of the macbook the following product: SL-8850 UltraPortable Audio Card USB. It is about /$14.aswitcher said:Optical in/out - nice.
