Took the Plunge

Placed an order for a 2GHz, 1 gig ram. Stayed with the 80 gig HD (that's enough for portability-otherwise I'm plugged into a 320 gig).
Skipped the AppleCare for now, You know they'll never let the warranty run out before bugging you again to purchase the AppleCare.
And yes, I "embarasingly hang my head", sprung for the black one.

It was a hard choice. I love the white keys/black letters on my iBook.
But feel the black is more (gag) "professional".

Yeah, cause a couple LED's generate SOOO much heat...

IIRC the backlit keyboard on my (now soooo outdated I won't be able to sell it for 1k$) 15" SD Powerbook doesn't use leds but some kind of sodium lamp.

I really want to buy one of these! My only concern is whether or not the shipper Apple uses will leave it at my house without a signature (which is fine with me) because I'm never home during the day.

I don't know where you are, since you don't have a location listed. But in the US, my experience is that Apple leaves explicit orders NOT to do this with the carriers. With FedEx, for instance, you are allowed to sign the slip on the first delivery attempt, and have them leave the package unattended on the second delivery trip, UNLESS the shipper declines to allow this. Apple declines to allow this, in my past experience. So I would try to get it shipped to work or some other alternative... :( Perhaps you can use one of those shipping stores that will receive packages on your behalf?

Ok, now I'm not happy. Not about the new MacBooks, but the fact that the Apple Store here mislead me about their availability. I called them and the lady on the phone told me they were recieving them now, with the implication that I could come down and buy one now. Instead, I got here to find that they probably won't be putting them out until the end of the day, which means I can't buy one now. Yeah, it's safe to say that I'm pissed.

My god.. I hope that was sarcasm...

So who wants to place bets on how long it takes for people to bitch about their scratched up black MacBooks?

How long does it take to get home and open the box?
Probably that long is what I will wager

Finally it has come... how many hours i spent on macrumors waiting for it to be announced it dont know. It looks pretty cool but one must always complain about something so I will pick the intergrated graphics.:(
anyway it look like a great computer, thank apple for finally announcing it and putting us out of our misery.

Try telling her you'll pick her up a box of chocolates on your way to the store. That ought to swing it!

Parallels Workstation Should Run Great On MacBook

I remember reading something about the Parallels Workstation not working on the Intel Mac Minis or not work as well (something like that) because of a difference in the chip set. Is there any reason why the MacBooks won't be able to run the Parallels Workstation (in other words, Windows in a Virtual Window)?

Thanks.
Nope. Parallels Workstation Should Run Great On MacBook. :)

Unfortunately, no. I called twice, and on the second call was told they were being recieved, and given the impression that I could come down and buy one right then. I did (this is now almost an hour later, btw) and I'm being told it'll be several hours before they're even recieved so they can be sold.

The black MacBook is STUPID. Do NOT buy it. I'd NEVER buy it in black. My PSP which is small is bad enough. A black Macbook is just a much bigger fingerprint magnet that will show all microscratches no matter how small. And a $200 premium for fingerprints? In my opinion they should have had an aluminum Macbook instead of the stupid black Macbook and charged the $200 premium there. That would also fill in the hole of the 12" Powerbook.

As I mentioned earlier... The black is NOT a glossy finish. It is a MATTE finish, so fingerprints will not be an issue. I am not sure about the white, as the sales rep said he wasnt sure when I spoke to him.

Personally I'm planning on buying the black, it's very much more professional. But you're right, I would have preferred the alumimum enclosure over the black =/

So is it black glossy or a matte finish?

And best of all, the idiots who thought it would be ibook or imacbook can SHUT THE HELL UP. Come on, Steve Freaking Jobs himself announced that the names would all have MAC. How much more did it have to be spelled out for you? Morons.

Hahaha, that's true...you may write to MOSR now...what are they saying at this moment?? Suckers, HAHAHAHA

Very Nice. I am a little dissapointed in apple's dicision to make the black 200 dollars more. Thats way to "Microsofty."
Yeah, it's disappointing, but it's nothing to do with Microsoft. It's the way economics works. Prices tend to be what the market will bear. If fewer people than expected by the black model, the price will come down quickly.

But I think Apple have probably priced these just about right. Despite wanting the black one to be cheaper, I'm sure enough people will pay for it anyway to make econonic sense to Apple.

By the way, this is what my wife and I were waiting for to finally switch her to Macs. She'll be getting a stock 1.83GHz with the education discount (she works for UC Berkeley) and I'll get extra RAM online. This is actually more machine than she needs. An iBook would be sufficient, but at $1049 and a bit of built-in future proofing, this can't be beaten.

Very cool. I am curious what the 60w Magsafe Power Adapter will look like. I wonder if it will be as big as the 85 or if it will add some compactness. Not a major thing, but everything else seems to have already been speculated on :p

I'm a 17inch MBP (defective) owner and am waiting for my Apple store to receive more stock, but i think i might just tell them to keep it nd buy a Macbook instead. I bought the 17MBP because it was the best value, but now it seems ike this is!

I'd just like to say again:

Glossy screens are rubbish.

Bring back the matte finish as a BTO, otherwise I, for one, will never purchase another Apple notebook. Sadly, one voice/lost purchase, is unlikely to change Apple's mind...

SHadOW

finally.

its was pretty much what i expected. nothing to spectacular, however it is just what students need. its a nice replacement for my 12" pb.

i think the black looks pretty sweet, i am still getting a white one. but i like the option of the black.

and yes, i was very excited to see it on the apple home page this morning!
