The extra for the black is not cool, but overall I'm really happy for Apple. I think this thing is going to be big, and mean a bigger share of the market for them.

Tit!

Magsafe rocks
Widescreen is the best thing to happen to displays since colour
iBooks have never had any card slots

Bye! Mind the door doesn't hit your ass on the way out!

Exactly. And those are the reasons why Apple won't get ahead even after the possible beneficial dual boot coup. They will have to keep marketing towards kids and pseudo creative types. This magnet stuff is dangerous to other devices like mechanical watches (that the pseudo creative types of course wouldn't wear). Widescreen is for watching movies or what? How about those people who actually work with their laptops and need something small? And why would I want to buy a computer that can't connect to a wireless network other than WiFi and Bluetooth? That already kills these machines for any serious business user who happens to travel to other countries. That for example is one of the reasons why these people have to rely on unreliable Windows systems. And this is even more anoying since Apple is the actual hardware manufacturer and certainly should be able to build something that is a real alternative. But they decide not to do so and play to generation iPod instead. That pisses me off, because now I have to buy an IBM or some other Chinese piece of junk again just because that is all there is that actually does the job outside a dorm room.

So who wants to place bets on how long it takes for people to bitch about their scratched up black MacBooks?

Stay tuned. :) Really, I expect some scratches and stuff. But on the other hand I'm liable to just stick a big Whinnie the Pooh sticker over any bad blemish(es).
Yeah, I know a WtP sticker doesn't mesh with my earlier post about the black looking more "professional". But you have to keep the higher-ups guessing a little.

Really, I wish they'd go back to the matte or pebble finish likeon the black G3 PowerBooks.
It gave a grip, didn't show smudges and dirt, and frankly had a more solid feel than the slick surface usually does. Though my old iBook feels like it's built like a brick, well, you know.

What are you blithering on about? What wireless other than WiFi and BT are you needing to connect to? Or do you mean there's no (built in) modem. Buy the dongle!

Thats harsh, and yet refreshingly irrational. Enjoy your new MacBook sir.

The product comparison page shows that the MacBook has a microphone. The tech specs don't include it because it's an expected part of iSight.

HOW could you use an iSight for a conference without a built-in mic? Are you guys joking? Please stop asking stupid questions...

The black MacBook is STUPID. Do NOT buy it. I'd NEVER buy it in black. My PSP which is small is bad enough. A black Macbook is just a much bigger fingerprint magnet that will show all microscratches no matter how small. And a $200 premium for fingerprints? In my opinion they should have had an aluminum Macbook instead of the stupid black Macbook and charged the $200 premium there. That would also fill in the hole of the 12" Powerbook.

Wow, I'm amazed. Guess what. Black ipods and PSPs have a clear coat over the black which cause the glare and fingerprints. I have plenty of black electronics that don't get fingerprints.

Dang, sweet update if you ask me. Remember folks, its not a powerbook or MacBook Pro update, its the iBook update. Take a look at the last revision iBook, and tell me this isn't a sweet update.

Now, anyone want to buy the iBook in my sig so I can upgrade?!

Underwhelmed by the GPU, the RAM and the fact that if I want to top model I have to have it in black. I like white. Why the hell can't I get the top model in white? That just plain sucks. No MacBook for me.

I reckon Apple could do with releasing a few towers for prosumers; same stats as iMacs, no screen etc., no graphics card but PCIe slots so you can order the one you like with it.

Something to challenge Alienware without being too expensive. That + bootcamp = Ciao M$

The black looks great! I think I'll see it in person later this week, then pick one up =)

Finally a replacement to my aging 17" PB.

The black does look good. (And it does remind me of my Pismo :))
And the specs are great.

But I bet in person that screen is total *****e to work on.

This makes me very, very happy.

Oh, the MacBook is nice and everything, but now we can FINALLY shut up about the "Rumored" MacBook. It's out, it's for sale. Now either buy it or don't, but please, NO MORE RUMORS!
So, anyone hear any rumours about when the Intel-powered PowerMacs are due to be released?:D

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES..... wait... do they have integrated graphics??? It doesn't say........

I, like so many, need to plug in my GSM modem that works worldwide. Or how about G3? Nothing.

carrying case

just got the 1.83 model in white, 1GB ram, 80GB hard drive. I am so excited! Spoke to customer service on the phone and they said the very latest I will recieve it is 5/31... lets not forget that memorial day jips us of getting the computers a day earlier! Well I just can't wait. What carrying case are my fellow soon-to-be Macbook owners going to get? I'd like something light... I also don't have a desk to keep my laptop on so I would put it away in the case when I'm not using it. Any reccomendations? I wonder if my eyeballs will love/hate the glossy screen...

These machines are NOT marketed to those people. These are laptops for home users, students, and the sort. Apple has never placed a pcmia card reader in their consumer portables, and is probably not going to start. If you really need pcmia go for the macbook pro. It is not that much heavier. (.4 lbs i believe).

P.S. most other wireless networks now offer USB or Bluetooth wireless receivers. pcmia has a niche market that it still maintains.

I think he might be talking about a cell card like so many companies are now integrating into their laptops. However i dont think this should be a standard feature, because #1 you're locked into the company that supports that type of card (EVDO, GSM, etc..). And besides, there are many announcements already out there that say that there are express cards in the works for this very purpose. Patience!
