Underwhelmed by the GPU, the RAM and the fact that if I want to top model I have to have it in black. I like white. Why the hell can't I get the top model in white? That just plain sucks. No MacBook for me.

Do you have long fluro hair and also happen to be short, in other words are you a troll?

The white one can be configured exactly the same as the black one except its cheaper

Finally!!!

I have been waiting on this for what feels like forever (other iBooks folks out there probably feel the same) but I am completely satisfied with the specs except for one thing: put the 512 of RAM on one chip. Don't make the loyalists have to go out and almost immediately toss out (or try to sell) to VERY low end 256 chips (we all know that $90 Apple Store upgrade to a gig isn't really as inexpensive as what you can pick up at new egg or a similar retailer).

I don't mind the integrated graphics - honestly, I have to use Boot Camp and Windows (sadly) for work stuff, and the performance of the graphics set is more than satisfactory for the whole Adobe suite, Dreamweaver, etc. I have an Xbox 360 for gaming, so I don't really look towards my computers for gaming solutions (but understand that some of you may be disappointed). I'm just so glad they finally released the damn things and with a week ship time!

Also what's interesting about the GMA 950 RAM sharing is that it does it dynamically according to task. It will use a minimum of 8MB and go all the way up to (what looks like 64) on the MacBook as the system demands it - this has proven to be a great function in the Windows 1/2 of my Mac Mini and the OSX 1/2.

Anyway, this is my first post ever, so pardon the rant, but like a lot of you, the rumor mill/wait for the iBook replacement took FOREVER!! But it's here, I just ordered mine, and will be a happy boy when it shows up (and I think an upcharge of $200 for black is complete BS, so I'm sticking with traditional).

Anyway, hello to all of you - happy birthday to MacBook!

The black does look good. (And it does remind me of my Pismo :))
And the specs are great.

But I bet in person that screen is total *****e to work on.
*laughs* We all have our opinions, yes I don't particularly like the glossy screens either, but there are circumstances that it looks amazingly better with a glossy finish. It's just not as versatile as a matte finish screen.

Yes, I have used a glossy screen before on my friend's Sony. In most circumstances (classroom setting, watching a movie setting), I enjoyed the glossy screen. It's outside where it presents the most issue, usually I just find an orientation that minimizes glare, or find a shady area.

I just wanted to point out glossy screens aren't the end of the world, and can look really good in many indoor conditions.

Exceptional In One Word!

OMG Now this is a killer!

Well that didn't take long at all.:)

This magnet stuff is dangerous to other devices like mechanical watches (that the pseudo creative types of course wouldn't wear).
You realize that all the Powerbooks also had magnets there right?

Oh wait a second, I just read the rest of your post. Sorry - I didn't realise you were a f***wit.

Is a glossy screen meant to absorb a camera flash?

Err, no. I don't mean this is a worse than a normal glossy-screen (it could even be better). I just mean that glossy screens are inherently reflective. As Diatribe has said in the MBPro thread - if you are using the screen in anything other than absolute darkness (which is not good for your eyes), you'll see reflections of yourself and the room around you.

In fact, if you used it in a perfectly dark room, I wouldn't be surprised to see the reflection of yourself illuminated by the screen :D

Let's see: Do premium graphics displays like the Apple ACD's have a glossy coating? Of course not - professionals know that they are as good as useless. But sales people luurve them.

Is the graphics the same graphics that's in the mac mini? It says "Intel Media Graphics Proccesor", or something.

I'm actually underimpressed by the black one after seeng the unpacking photos. Looks too much like a thinkpad. The white ricks though :)

Exactly. And those are the reasons why Apple won't get ahead even after the possible beneficial dual boot coup. They will have to keep marketing towards kids and pseudo creative types. This magnet stuff is dangerous to other devices like mechanical watches (that the pseudo creative types of course wouldn't wear). Widescreen is for watching movies or what? How about those people who actually work with their laptops and need something small? And why would I want to buy a computer that can't connect to a wireless network other than WiFi and Bluetooth? That already kills these machines for any serious business user who happens to travel to other countries. That for example is one of the reasons why these people have to rely on unreliable Windows systems. And this is even more anoying since Apple is the actual hardware manufacturer and certainly should be able to build something that is a real alternative. But they decide not to do so and play to generation iPod instead. That pisses me off, because now I have to buy an IBM or some other Chinese piece of junk again just because that is all there is that actually does the job outside a dorm room.

The mag and widescreen are really non-issues but I see your need for wireless connectivity.
That said though, looiking at the photos on the Apple site, the 15 MPB isn' physiclaly that much bigger than the 13.3 MB
13.3" MB 12.78w" x 8.92"d vs. 15.1" MBP 14.1"w x 9.6"d

Basically 13" x 9" vs. 14" x 10"

Of course there is price involved.

I think he might be talking about a cell card like so many companies are now integrating into their laptops. However i dont think this should be a standard feature, because #1 you're locked into the company that supports that type of card (EVDO, GSM, etc..). And besides, there are many announcements already out there that say that there are express cards in the works for this very purpose. Patience!

I guess so. Just bluetooth to your phone for the same kind of connection. Works fine.

I was just stuffing around with you, i work in retail part time in retail selling computers, the glossy screens are good for ensuring that your hair is always looking its best. hehe Though ive used one and not really minded it too much.

This thread is moving too fast. I've asked the same question 3 times, and no one can respond cause they don't see it.

Is the integrated graphics in the MacBook the same as the one in the mac mini?

These pictures make me miss my Lombard (still ticking but loaned out) and want the black one :)
http://looprumors.com/macbookphotos.php

(To people who are afraid of magnets: laptops already HAD plenty of magnets. One to detect when the lid was shut. One in each speaker. Plus the motors in the fans, HD, and optical drive.)

Hmm...i hope the lack of a BTO screen option on the MB doesnt mean that the next revision of the MBP will also be glossy-only.

.

What I want to know is: is the white one in matte finish too?
