Guess I'll get a white one.. I don't wanna pay such a lot extra just for the change of color.. but I will wait till you guys tell me what bugs it has ;) (if it has some, what I don't hope)

Well: Look at my prediction about the CPU-type: I said I expected the C2D to be a Pro-CPU and the CD to be a consumer-CPU and I think the CD won't get out of the consumer-models very soon. So now as the MBP is not having a very better CPU any more, don't you think I'm right? I guess the MBP will have a C2D as soon as possible to get some difference again between the models.. Just my thaught.

*laughs* We all have our opinions, yes I don't particularly like the glossy screens either, but there are circumstances that it looks amazingly better with a glossy finish. It's just not as versatile as a matte finish screen.

Yes, I have used a glossy screen before on my friend's Sony. In most circumstances (classroom setting, watching a movie setting), I enjoyed the glossy screen. It's outside where it presents the most issue, usually I just find an orientation that minimizes glare, or find a shady area.

I just wanted to point out glossy screens aren't the end of the world, and can look really good in many indoor conditions.

Fair points. But I'd rather have versatility.

On a separate point: I also prefer matte, not glossy, photographs. They look more "real". The world is not glossy :D

Basically, I just think the glossy/matte screen should be BTO.

No more the latest iBook

Well, it was fun ... I bought my 12'' iBook last August.
So it has been 10 months with the latest in consumer laptops from Apple, close to a record I guess.
I just LUV my first Apple :p , the MacBook is very good bang for the $, but the black one doesn't fit ... :(

Really Good machine, but I'll wait for a Leopard iMac for home ...

Not Too Spectacular?

I am glad to see that Apple did not do anything too spectacular to launch these things... this is was a simple update folks. Nothing totally new or innovative... just an update. We now have Intel iBooks with a screen that is actually usable.
I think they did several spectacular things.

1. DVI Out up to 1900 x 1200
2. Spanning for Extended Desktop
2. Gigabit Ethernet
3. 1280 x 800 13.3" Glossy Widescreen
4. Built-In iSight w/microphone
5. 2GHz Core Duo
6. 2GB Max RAM
7. MagSafe Power Adapter

Please tell me what is not Spectacular about all that?

Ya, now that I think about it, the black does look just like any other PC. I'll probably end up sticking with white or aluminum.

This thread is moving too fast. I've asked the same question 3 times, and no one can respond cause they don't see it.

Is the integrated graphics in the MacBook the same as the one in the mac mini?

Check post 446 :)

The Card

Will the dedicated graphics card be able to run call of duty 2 with a configuration like this

2.0 ghz
1 gb ram
80 gb hard drive (the middle macbook basically)

I want a macbook and this will be my first mac, but don't have 2k to shell out on a pro. Appreciate it

It looks like a thinkpad to me too, but that's not a bad thing. I think the black/white models both look great.

I'm actually underimpressed by the black one after seeng the unpacking photos. Looks too much like a thinkpad. The white ricks though :)

Thank god the black MacBooks weren't an option when I made my purchase several months ago. It would have made the decision more difficult.

I'm happy with the news and that there's a black one to choose from now.

What's next on the checklist of releases? :)

Where are those prices from? The Apple Store for Further Education or Apple Store for Education? DOes being in education give you a free apple care? Sorry about this, just I can't seem to get this price else where.

Do apple employee's on the phone allow haggling on the phone slightly to get the price down to secure a sale?

What other wireless networks ??

I am stunned that this seems to be a serious question around here. Does Apple think that I will always go to a Sturbucks anytime I need to check my emails? I want to be able to use a quadband GSM card that works not only in the U.S. but also in other countries (that may not have Sturbucks, etc). And I don't want anything build in the way Dell does it now (which is a stupid Verizon CDMA system that does not work abroad). That's what PCMCIA cards are sold for. If Apple comes up with some GSM/sim card modem on its own, fine. But until then I am not sure how they are going to extend into the PC laptop crowd. That plus the magnet thing I can't get over.

Some folks in the Gizmodo discussion of the MacBooks are saying that dual-layer DVD burners are available as a BTO option, but I can find no reference whatsoever to that on Apple's site. Are the guys at Gizmodo high on something, or was I just not looking closely enough?

C2D MacBooks By November

No, I don't agree with your assessment. I think these will also get C2D by November. That's 6 months of MBs with CD and long past when C2D ships in August. Appropriate refresh time just before the holiday buying season takes off. Last of all the lines to get C2D at that point.

I don't think Apple will buy CD processors any longer than it has to. C2D will not cost them more by November IF Intel is even still selling CD processors by then. Plus they run cooler and will have a longer battery life. I maintain that speed, screen res and Expresscard/34 will be the primary differentiator between MB and MBP not CD vs C2D. Steve & Marketing will want an all 64-bit line by MWSF '07 anyway. I doubt buyers will even notice nor care when these start shipping with C2D inside. It will be no biggie to 99% of the users out there.

Okay. These macbooks are mindboggling. Who would have guessed that they would START at 1.83Ghz!!! That's just..... COOL. 2.0Ghz Core Duo for $1299. That's impressive. This is gonna get some switchers. I am very impressed. My older brother just bought a PC that he said was "really good value" for $999, and it had an Intel Core Duo 1.66ghz, and integrated graphics as well. I told him to wait for the MacBook since he can run windows on it, and he said he probably won't get as good a deal as what he did.

This is awesome. This is gonna raise the mac market share by a noticible amount. And I love that they're shipping soon.

Oh well... I just bought an old iBook so that I can be portable until the fall when I get a pimped out 15" merom MacBook Pro... so these laptops are kinda out of my leauge.. but I can still be impressed with them.

You need to access the store through your Uni's LAN in the UK. There's a national agreement that includes better discounts and the 3 year warranty. Discounts on Apple software are even better.

High, I think. :( At least, I don't see it. So far they appear to be available only on the MBP 17".
