Heh, no one else has responded to my comments, but I wanted to clear it up anyways. I got my MacBook now, after waiting only 30 minutes (the guy told me several hours, didn't offer to put me on a list or anything, called and talked to a manager and got my name on the list right away, and she said they'd be available to purchase within about a half hour). So now, I'm playing with it, and it is sweet. I like the keyboard, latch was slightly too strong first time, but I'm assuming I'll either get used to it or the magnet will wear down somewhat. Overall, I'm very happy with it. I wish I could've gotten a better model, but finances just didn't allow it, so I've got the base model, but it's nice. Keyboard is kinda funky and really cool, feels nice and responsive for typing. Might post pics later, but I doubt that I'll beat anyone else to it.

How's the keyboard?

My favourite Mac keyboard so far - far in advance of the old iBook and (in my opinion anyway) I prefer it to the MacBook Pro.

The glossy screen looks amazing, colours are much more vivid - and reflections don't seem to be a problem when you're using it.

im gonna pick maself one of these up once Leapord hits, and once they got Meroms in it - itll be a sick lappy then, no need just yet for a new laptop, but will next year when im at work!

Help! I've been reading as fast as I can chasing the last page of this thread for 2 hours, and it still is getting away from me! :p

Great specs for an entry level machine, this is likely to be a massive improvement for any iBook owner trading up. My concern though is the shared graphics memory again, 512MB - Shared memory - Rosetta overhead = not enough, I reckon a RAM upgrade is near mandatory on these machines.

Checked..I study Law here..I think I might have my first test case at hand:rolleyes:

Can you please quote in full those T&Cs? Because as far as Apple says on their publicly accessible HE website there's no free 3 year warranty, AppleCare or otherwise.

I don't see that you can downgrade the HDD on the black model to match the price of the white MB as a previous user had noted...

This is most amazing laptop Apple has ever produced!

The price is 'cheap as chips,' and but the specs are top of the range! (except the GPU, of course).

Wow, 2 GHz Core Duo? Monitor spanning? DVI? I never thought Apple would put these in a low-end model.

No CDN Price Bump?

Yummy, I'll be getting one of these before the end of the year.

Interesting to note, that if I am remembering correctly, the iBooks were $1250 CDN, same as the MacBooks. No price increase? Though I'm only getting a 4% student discount  Oh well, go loonie!

Has anyone noticed that...

You can now get the MacBook Pros with a Glossy display. At least it is an option on the MBP's

I am pleased with update as it was much more procesor then i expected, but i am slightly dissipointed. I was hoping for a replacement for the 12in Powerbook and as far as i am concerned the black MB is not that. I think they need to lower the price on the black and bit and make a true replacement for the 12in Powerbook. And it would have been nice to have a black one in the lower configuration.

Have a look:

200 dollars for 20gb and black color? other computer companies charge LESS for a black computer (Dell) so i dont see why there is a higher price point.

did anyone else notice that we now have to purchase our "DVI t VGA/DVI" adapters now? its only 17 bucks, but i think it's the principle of the thing; why do we, the loyal mac army that we are, suddenly have to start paying for small things like our DVI adapters, when we used to get 2 of those for free?

Also - the ram is 2x256 DDR2 20-pin SODimm - how cheap?! This is ARCHAIC to not include a single 512 chip!

NO..It is to do with Dual Channel GPU configurations so it can optimize graphics performance on that GMA950. Although the benefits are arguably minimal, it works for Apple to have an excuse for their cost cutting measures:rolleyes:

I want a 13-inch with aluminium enclosure!

I refuse to get rid of my 12-inch Powerbook until this happens.

I would *love* to have ordered a new notebook today. However, I need it to be aluminium enclosure.

Otherwise, these are really nice.

I think that might be out of date.

I quote from Apple's HE page: "Special first-year warranty and support package as standard".

You only get a discount on AppleCare, no 3 year warranty is thrown in.

Another quote: "Additional discount when AppleCare Protection Plan is purchased at the same time as systems".

If you can prove different I'd be very interested as I have two sisters both working in education who want new laptops, and unless I intervene they'll buy some horrendous Dell or clone PC!

There are 2 different Apple Stores (or depts, whatever...) that offer Education discounts:

1. The basic one. You can access this from anywhere. Just click on the educational discounts link in the normal Apple Store website, enter your region and institution and you're in. The terms and conditions here state a 12 month waranty.

2. The "National Agreement Higher Education" store. You NEED to access this from your Uni's LAN. It's probably different for each Uni but at Sussex I can access it via the IT services "facilities" section. After logging in to a proxy server, using my uni account name and password, I'm presented with drop-downs to choose region and institution. This Apple store is the one that the gov't and the institutions do business with and the terms and conditions show a 36 month warranty.

you never got it for free with the ibook because the ibook never had a mini-DVI out. it came with a mini VGA with adapter, but i much prefer the mini-DVI. now we get spanning via DVI.

also, we get optical input and output, which is nice for we audiophile types that like using external DACs.

Yep! Exacty the same except...

This thread is moving too fast. I've asked the same question 3 times, and no one can respond cause they don't see it.

Is the integrated graphics in the MacBook the same as the one in the mac mini?

The MacBook specs will dynamically use anywhere from 8MB to 64MB of system memory depending on demand; the mini will use between 8 & 128.
