The difference in price between the 2 GHz white and the black Macbook is justified. First, Pro people like to stand out with something exclusive and the BTO for the HDD is cheaper on the black one.

Black Macbook:
100$ for 100 GB
200$ for 120 GB

White Macbook:
150$ for 150 GB
250$ for 120 GB

No difference on RAM BTO though...

Think I'll get the black one once it's rev B. It's made by Asus, but still...

Yes, the BASIC ONE is for F/E (colleges) and the discount is around 4%. The H/E one is for Unis and the discount is 8%+ You CAN access the store outside of university, so long as you have the link to it

Can someone confirm what store this is?

https://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/UkEdIndividualCustom?qprm=78186

I stand corrected. You can access it with the link.

That's the "National Agreement Higher Education" store

The price is $50 cheaper because to upgrade from the white macbook to the black macbook, that goes from a 60 GB to an 80 GB HD, which is incidently $50.

There is no difference in HD upgrade costs.

Speakers/Sound

Forgive me if this topic has already been discussed, but where are the MacBook's speakers (I can't seem to see them on any pics I've come across)? Also, for those of you who have already bought one or tested it out, how is the sound quality as compared to the old iBooks for example?

Thank You!

Wow - www.looprumors.com - I gave up on them ages ago as they never updated!

I placed an order for the white lowest end one as it came out at £643.?? with HE discount (Including 3 year warranty for HE customers) but the black does look much much nicer. They remind me of the Powerbook G3 which was kind of funky looking. I am now considering cancelling my order for the black one!

Yup nice big trackpad on the MacBook. Too bad we can't use it as a Wacom tablet. LOL.
Hehe - I would've liked the ENTIRE area sub-keyboard to be one huge trackpad...drool...

Check out looprumors.com - they got photos of the black MacBook, it's matte. Very cool looking. Wish they had higher res photos. I'm sure someone will post some within a couple of hours!

EDIT: Ask and ye shall receive - Look at the post ABOVE!! ^^^^^ LOL

I'll take some pics tonight when I go to the apple store.

P.S. Can someone post those pics from the above site HERE. I can't go into flickr sites cuz of my damn websensed computer at work.

Just picked mine up from the Meadowhall store in Sheffield (in the UK). They said I was the first one to buy one from there! They didn't have black ones, but I wanted the top spec white one anyway, and got that on my student discount.

It's a lovely looking machine, just waiting for it to firewire all the info from my iMac... Yum!

The day of joy!

I've been all hyper since that boring class about kidneys ended and I got online to find out that what I've been waiting round about half a year for now is finally out!! :)
So off cause I had to give my good old VISA card a pounding and buy one right away!!! I'm really thrilled!! :D This will be my first mac and from what I've seen on the net it's great! Fits all my needs and most importantly - it's one good looking machine! Though I can't really agree with people about the black version being that great... I think the white finnish is kinda "apple-ish" and far more cool than the black version! Just like I much prefer my iPod to be white! But I glad that Apple made a black version cause that way I feel even better buying the cheaper white version! :D

y does apple consistently stick with the single click under the track pad, when will they give us a right click ??

I bought a white and a black, now i have a month old 12" ibook for sale cheap.....1.33/512/40 combo airport and bluetooth

HAHA make that two 1.33/1GB/60GB Combo...although the buyer should be willing to wait a month..I'm still at uni:p

So, I've been dealing with this problem of having to be very careful which power adapter I use with my Powerbook since we have two apple power adapters in the living room... one for my powerbook and one from my girlfriend's TiBook. The Powerbook adapter is 65W whereas the TiBook adapter is 45W.

I've been hoping that Apple would straighten things out and have the power adapter for the MacBook be the same as the power adapter for the MacBook Pro. Alas, it is not to be... MacBook adapter: 60W, MacBook Pro adapter: 85W.

Loving this machine! The keyboard feels fantastic, I love typing with it!

Very impressed with the speed of the machine (2ghz white one) even though it's only got the standard 512mb of ram. Despite the ram Final Cut Pro runs very nicely, and I shall be sticking 2gb in at the earliest opportunity!

I wanted a nice notebook to replace my iMac, and this is going to do *very* nicely!

The good thing about the 60W adapter is that it looks to be the same size as previous PB adapters.

Did you look at those Specss? they have 1.06Ghz chip max RAM is 1GB i mean look at the big picture please

hey you know what? performance isnt the most important thing when you are buying a sub notebook, instead battery and weight are more important

<edit>

ok it is cheap (price) and is a Mac, but it is just too heavy for this size of laptop, look at the sony SZ, 1.69kg, how they made it?
