Wow...I wonder how the strength/"rattle-ability" is? I wouldn't want it accidentally coming open.

from previous posters it seems as though its quite sturdy and tight...

How 'bout "painting" one a different color with a Sharpie?

So, I've been dealing with this problem of having to be very careful which power adapter I use with my Powerbook since we have two apple power adapters in the living room... one for my powerbook and one from my girlfriend's TiBook. The Powerbook adapter is 65W whereas the TiBook adapter is 45W.

I've been hoping that Apple would straighten things out and have the power adapter for the MacBook be the same as the power adapter for the MacBook Pro. Alas, it is not to be... MacBook adapter: 60W, MacBook Pro adapter: 85W.

Phew, good job I ordered an iMac Core Duo instead, look at the graphics on those things... horrendous.

Not really. It's a great chip for 2d stuff, just isn't that good for gaming and other real time 3d.

I'm guessing you need at least 1GB memory, but something also tells me that still isn't enough,

You DEFINITELY need more than 512, that should be the biggest complaint about these. For most people 1 gig will be plenty unless you're running many apps or huge document files.

I have.

Very impressed that a 2GHz CD is available. Just a shame there is no option for a better graphics card - the specs almost seem a bit unbalanced. But I guess Apple don't see the need for a small pro machine.

"Pro" has nothing to do with integrated graphics, they mainly make a difference on games. I guess you mean to say a small gaming machine?

$200 more for 20GB more?

Nope. $50 for the hard drive, $150 for black.

The graphics capabilities of the macbook are just a little weak for many professionals...

OK, I'll call you on it. What PRO apps require better graphics chip? We're talking about a gpu that can play HD video, it will keep up with any app that doesn't require 3d acceleration.

I thibk you may use the 85W on the Macbook too.
Is the Macbook brick (60W) smaller than the ones for Macbook Pro? How is it compared to the powerbook bricks?

is it just me or does the keyboard look funny? It looks like the keys are much more spaced out then the 12 inchers. Is this due to the wider display and there fore wider space the key board needed to cover?

No, the keyboard is definitely different -- and there have been Apple notebooks for some time (every one of them, except for the 12" iBook and 12" Alu PB) that were wider than their keyboards.

Dunno what the keyboard rationale was, or how it'll pan out. It looks like the keys are recessed more... perhaps to decrease the amount of screen scuffing? And the spacing, I dunno what the engineering rationale is.

I'm very curious to get some hands-on time with the keyboard, although I don't think I'll have a chance soon.

KB is a bit different. The keys do not touch each other like the iBooks KB. It feels a bit nicer I suppose, but not as good as the Apple KB on my Mini.

Overall, it's a more "professional" feeling laptop -- more like a MBP than an iBook.

I'm going to reserve judgement on the keyboard until i actually try one.
But I don't think it looks good at all - especially on the black MB.

The keyboard reminds me of the old ZX Spectrum

I agree about the name...

Does anyone know if adding a 1GB ram chip with the existing 256 chip will slow performance (is dual-channel a big deal on this laptop)?

awesome, i cant wait for my 17" MBP to arrive and try this out, was meant to be here yesterday

wonder if they'll implement this on 15" MBPs (older ones, presuming the new lot of 15s has the updated firmware)

After a long self-debate I've just bought myself the 1.83GHz with 1GB of RAM. I'm disappointed in the Intel graphics but I really need a new laptop and there is no way I can justify a MacBook Pro. I'd have quite liked a black one too but not at the added cost... Anyway, other than these two gripes, I'm fairly impressed with the MacBook and its price. It doesn't seem anywhere as near such a poor deal as the Mac Mini Core Solo is.

Very nice :)

I think i will buy one, my first mac.
But i have to ask:
Will photoshop run great on it (rosetta).
do you think i can run cad program like solidworks in bootcamp.

Thanks :D

Can someone please post some comparison pics with an old 14" iBook? Also does ANYONE know about the dual-channel ram question? Non-matching So-Dimms?

i was in the market for a mac mini core duo. but the ibook gives you much more bang for the buck. i wait for the first review and then look into the macbook again. maybe i can justify the expense somehow.:D

I want...

I want 1 black MacBook and 1 white MacBook

- the black one for even number days in the month
- hte white one for odd number days in the month

:D

200 dollars for 20gb and black color? other computer companies charge LESS for a black computer (Dell) so i dont see why there is a higher price point.
"Think Different"

:D

Just ordered before noon

I ordered 2.0GHz 1GB RAM and 80GB HD in white case.
Black doesn't really catch me eyes.

The black looks like a dell, I will never NEVER buy a black laptop, they always look naff!

I totally agree, why bother black if you're buying a Mac, so werid. I was shocked that black is even expensive. LOL

Integrated grpahics is fine, who plays a 3d game on a 13 inch laptop screen?

$1100 without a DVD burner and no way to upgrade to a Superdrive unless you shell out $200 more for an upgrade. Combo drives were standard on $700 laptops three and a half years ago. A burner and a tad bit faster processor sounds a bit too much for $200. After all these years, I'd expect a DVD burner to become standard already.
