Ti-99/4 Black Chicklet Keys!

HERE ARE YOUR TRUE HIGH-QUALITY MB PICS

The keyboard looks WONDERFUL - and Apple really outdid themselves with the black model - they even color-coded the interior USB pin and firewire pin (look closely) :D

Anybody seen how well the keyboard works? I'm planning to go over to the Apple store today after work to see if they got one to try.

Reminds me of the "chicklet" keys on the TI-99/4 back in the day (dating myself)...

Why the extra $150 for black???

OK, I'll call you on it. What PRO apps require better graphics chip? We're talking about a gpu that can play HD video, it will keep up with any app that doesn't require 3d acceleration.
Aperture.

Wow, that keyboard looks awesome! I wonder how it feels to type on it, though... I'll find out in a few days when I go to an Apple store. :D

Integrated graphics just don´t cut it for me and it´s a disappointment that e.g. x1300 upgrade cannot be purchased. The prices are nice and I think it´s perfect for most people who only use 2D apps.

Unfortunately for me, I don´t have enough money to spend a 2000 euros for a laptop with integrated graphics, so I´m switching back.

i was in the market for a mac mini core duo. but the ibook gives you much more bang for the buck. i wait for the first review and then look into the macbook again. maybe i can justify the expense somehow.:D

price from the AU edu store

mac mini core duo $1,169.30
MacBook (entry level) core duo 1.83 $1,574.10

for $400 you get
a)13.3 widescreen (albeit glossy - most consumers would prefer this im sure)
b) faster processor

MB are a bargain compared to the mini (impending speed bumps??)

Speaking of the size, if you calculate the volume figures for both the iBook 12'' and MacBook 13'' you'll realize that the MacBook is in fact smaller than the iBook 12''.

2241 cc -> 12'' iBook G4
2028 cc -> 13'' MacBook

Upgrade The Hard Drive Yourself ... Its Very Easy

Got back a short time ago from the Apple Store with my shiny new MacBook ($1299). :D

So I'm halfway through disassembling it to put in a 100GB 7200RPM hard drive when I could tell the hard drive slides right out through the battery compartment! The drive is plainly visible when you remove the battery. I saw it initially, but though no way you'd be able to just slide the thing right out, so I didn't even try. LOL So don't get a hard drive upgrade from Apple, folks! Upgrading the hard drive is a piece of cake, even easier than installing the memory! I picked up my 100GB 7200rpm SATA from buy.com for $180 shipped a couple weeks back (Hitachi).

Since I had removed so many screws, I was able to lift the keyboard part way up to peek in at the processor, and it appears to be soldered to the main board. I didn't see any socket. Too bad.

I'd post picts, but I forgot my digital camera. I'll see if someone around here has one I can borrow.

BOUGHT!
With the education discount. I got a dual core 2ghz dvd burner for 1287 total! SO STOKED!

I found it in class this morning and nearly hypervenilated. came straight home and bought it.
I feel like I got a deal too... I had expected to pay more with it being a mac and all the goodie software. But we have an HP at Staples right now thats dual core 1.87 and its goes for like 1499. 1299 with rebates. YAY ME!

Yay glossy screen too. I plan on kaing this my portable portfolio so I am grateful for that kick. the people who complain have only seen them in stores with crappy flourescent lighting.

(gasps) are the MBs 2000 euros (wherever you live???) ... surely they cant be

Is it possible to do upgrades from the apple store? For example, if I got into the apple store and want to upgrade a MacBook from 60GB to 80GB will that be possible? Thanks.

Wow, great update. I don't know if I'll be getting a MacBook, but it dropped the price of the starter MB Pro in the Canadian education store from $2099 to $1999 AND it has a better proc now, too.

The pricing of the MacBook is very reasonable (besides the black one) and it's making me reconsider what I might end up purchasing. Awesome. This made my day :)

I've got Aperture running in the background on my spanky new MacBook - just importing some RAW files.

Works perfectly.

I assume you applied the hack then?

Aperture and Motion are not (officially) supported on the GMA 950.

You can get the white MacBook with a 80 GB Hard Drive for $50 extra so $1349, your are then paying $150 for a Black paint job!!!
What a rip off!

-Hart

Does anyone knows if Aperture runs on the Macbooks without hack and at a decent speed ?

If it does i just have to click once to order a black MB !!!!!!!
