Lovely-a unique new keyboard design and comes in black, glossy Sony esque screen, upto 2ghz and optical audio. Makes the iBook seem like the ultimate home/prosumer laptop.

According to the service manual, some parts like the keyboard aren't easily user replaceable, but the HD is and the display-it's of the Low Reflection Glossy Polarizer (LRGP) kind. And the access card tool is used too. No Express Card for this size.

No, you're wrong.

Apple may do whatever they please. You just don't buy their product. It can't be more clear cut.

Unbelievable statement showing a really deep understanding of marketing principles in a complex and globalised economy.:p
Are you British and working for any of our privatised utilities by any chance?

I'm a bit disappointed in the graphics card on the macbook's. I would have liked to see the supported res of 1680x1050 on the macbook.

1680x1050 on a 13.3" screen, are you mad?

I was really wanting to purchase a macbook (which I would right now) but a 64mb intel graphics card that only supports 1280x800 is outright crap.

Read the specs, it supports 1920 x 1200 pixels.

Thanks a lot for answering those questions.

I, too, would love some informal WoW info this evening or when you find the time. No need for anything more scientific than "lags/doesn't lag in big cities", "works with setting X but not Y". ;)

Yes, I would, as well.

I'd be able to give these specifics when my BTO arrives (next week!).

So WHERE are the Speakers??

Fun day huh guys, I am buying one tomorrow to replace my aging iMac G4-700. Can't wait! Now I have read nearly all 40+ pages of posts now, but I have yet to see the question answered specifically, without guessing they are on the rear behind the lid. So where are they?

This is the first time I've felt this excited about a new Apple produce since 2002 when I got this funky cool looking iMac.

Thanks, rajulkabir, helpful comment!

Thanks in advance,

A quick question for anyone that can help. If I have no interest in playing games, what other applications will be hindered by integrated graphics? Where will a macbook pro really outperform a macbook?

This is a really good question, but from what I've read, basically Aperture and Motion are the two applications that most people would notice a difference.

Otherwise, besides games, I would imagine that any 3D modeling applications would also be slower.

Also, the MacBook Pros have Firewire 800 and can be configured with a 7200 RPM disk drive. So you'd probably see higher performance on any disk-intensive application (iMovie/iDVD) if you have the faster disk drive.

Very easy, you go to the education via the store home page, choose the student/teacher option, enter the name and location of your school and you're in
If they check, you may have to prove you're in that school, and over 18, but I don't think it matters what you fill in if you feel lucky enough

I really want in my next portable device:

1) Small

2) Light

3) NOT a production machine... but a little productivity/communication device: browse web, email, load and store photos, light text wrangling, and iChat/Skype.

So, it looks like I'll be living with my ancient iBook awhile longer.

You'll be waiting for the iPDA/ new iPod ? (Hope Apple releases this)
Maybe you can look at the Nokia 770 thingy? http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,74866,00.html

Where is Apple going to get a 12 or 13" screen with a resolution of 1680x1050?

In terms of the *graphics card*, it supports a max resolution of 1920x1200. You know that, right? You can power a wide variety of external displays at higher resolutions than the internal one.

I did not know that. So an external monitor will support 1680x1050 on the macbook?

Any hands-on reviews??

My finger is on the button to buy, but are there any reports of problems like on the MBP?

From everything i can see right now, its a great buy (i dont have one, mind you) But no problems have been reported.

If youre cautious, it wouldnt hurt to wait 24 hours.

Thats unknown until people get there hands on them and test things out. I don't think anyone has them yet.

cool macbook ad idea

For an ad for teh macbook they could have the song "animal I have become" by three days grace

So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one would ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal

Yep, it should. As a change from the iBook, the MacBook doesn't need any hacks to show a separate screen on the external monitor (at a different resolution, if you wish), or to operate on external monitor alone, with the computer lid closed. Powerbooks always had these features, and iBooks can be hacked to have them (although there is controversy as to whether it is safe to use an iBook in the closed mode, at least the screen spanning is fine).

It should be fine for most 20"-24" LCDs. The max resolution of 1920x1200 is the same as the native res as Dell's 2405FPW, and I think most other 23" or 24" LCDs.... :)

The only thing you can't really do is power 30" LCDs like the Apple 30" display, at native res....

well, considering plymouthbreezer was supporting my earlier criticisms, i have to agree with him here. some people think apple SHOULD do such and such to their computer line. "why don't they support this?" "why don't they support that?" "such and such company offers this...why doesn't apple?"

i'm not against criticizing features of the MB...heck, i wish it had a discrete graphics card, more standard ram, etc...but it doesn't. but i still think it's a big improvement over the old ibook line...some people are asking for features that aren't even in the MB PRO or any apple product!! that's what i find tiring...

In a word, yes.

I'm still not to happy with the graphics. They could have fit an ATI in there. I'm sure the macbook pro specs stopped them from throwing a ati card in. I'm guessing once the macbook pro upgrades to a better card (x1900 or better) and the new intel chips the macbook will get an ati card as well.

Thanks a bunch! Looks very classy in my opinion - similar to the stunning G3 'Books of yore.

I agree. Only thing I will miss is the rubberized stuff on the old G3 PowerBooks, that stuff made them very nice and grippy.

I'd only be using this on a 20.1" viewsonic monitor.
