I see that the macbook support desktop spanning, but can't find anywhere if it supports 'close-lid' mode.

Can a macbook owner answer this?

When it comes to the integrated graphics…

I have a Dell desktop with Intel graphics and 1.5 gigs of ram
The graphics run great! Alas I am not playing games. But for the average person using the internet, using Word, maybe using Photoshop once a month. The integrated graphics work fine, that is if you have enough ram.

So I think if you deck it out with 1.5 or 2 gigs of ram you aren’t going to really notice that it’s not dedicated video ram.

But I share your enthusiasm :D:D
Lol. I was waiting so long for this  . I'm really happy with the price, as it is very affordable.

It does support close-lid mode (aka "clamshell"); Apple's own site says so.

For those lucky enough to already have the new MacBooks in hand, does the Apple Logo illuminate on the back of the screen when powered on?

i'm not against criticizing features of the MB...heck, i wish it had a discrete graphics card, more standard ram, etc...but it doesn't. but i still think it's a big improvement over the old ibook line...some people are asking for features that aren't even in the MB PRO or any apple product!! that's what i find tiring...

Ultimately, on a forum with over 60,000 members, each with different needs and requirements, it's hardly surprising that no one product is going to please everyone. I personally wouldn't buy a MacBook, but it's getting a lot of praise here. On the other hand, I absolutely love my MacBookPro, which has received a lot of criticism here.

Different strokes for different folks.

I'm still not to happy with the graphics. They could have fit an ATI in there. I'm sure the macbook pro specs stopped them from throwing a ati card in. I'm guessing once the macbook pro upgrades to a better card (x1900 or better) and the new intel chips the macbook will get an ati card as well.
I wouldn't count on it. What "could have" been is not always so clear. People fail to take into consideration a lot of engineering factors. It's not just space for the chip, it's the cooling system (several times the size of the GPU), the thermal load, the power requirements, the trace paths which require a logic board redesign, and several other small but deal-breaking problems. It's not like there's a slot and the GPU just drops in.

Whether the reason is technical, marketing, or simply economic, squeezing in discrete graphics was decided not to be an option, and it's highly unlikely to change--especially as integrated graphics continue to improve.

Yes. It looks nice on the black one I have.

ok i def just saw a glitch on the apple site and i dont know if it was a "leak" or what but it listed the iBook next to the PowerMac. I saw it and I was slightly confused....so I refreshed the page and it was gone.....maybe apple is keeping it around for a little bit (like the old rumors said)?

Thats unknown until people get there hands on them and test things out. I don't think anyone has them yet.

That's false. Plenty of people have them, on this thread.

And I am jealous; I have to wait up to 10 business days to get my BTO one. :)

Dito: 3-5 days + 3-7 (max.10 days)
=6-15 days

But yeah, if you live in Belgium you're used to that (still no videos on iTunes)

You won't be saying that again once you discover that you can't plug in a regular microphone. You'll be paying extra bucks to get your iChat working. Evenmore since there is no built in microphone. May I point out to all prospective buyers of the macbook the following product: SL-8850 UltraPortable Audio Card USB. It is about €/$14.

Please stop saying it doesn't have a built in mic everyone... Of course it does.
The dot to the left of the isight camera *is* the built in mic as it is on every other intel mac. That's how apple can say, "Use it to video chat simply by opening iChat AV and clicking on a buddy icon". You couldn't have a video CHAT without a mic guys.... Well, unless you know sign language.

Check the education store

You may have been in the education store where the ibooks are still for sale.

Could anyone actually belive that it would get a 1.83 ghZ and 2.0 ghZ Intel Core Processor? Many of us thought it would get Intel Core Solo (not me thought), 1.67 ghZ or something but this is awesome!
