Comparing the last PB G4 to the last iMac G5. The iMac was much more capable ...
Comparing the MB Pro to the Intel iMac there is not much difference ...
And now the MacBooks are bitting iMac's tail ...

iMacs should be much better than they are now compared to the laptops

I Agree. I think Apple will be putting the new desktop intel chips once released in the new imacs. We will have to wait and see.

I'm sure then the MacPro (powermac) will have the starting price listed with imac specs and then go up to the highest intel processor they make for desktops for the macpros.

meaning.. best imac config will meet the standard config of a macpro (maybe)

I want one in black today only. They dont have it in stores though. Only the :( white ones. If I dont get it today then I`ll be waiting another 2 months till it hits Indian shores. My cousin wud be leavin SF tomm:( . He can get me one. But they only have white ones there. Does any one know if there is a Black one in SF. I`ll have to get a white one if not. God. this was the first thing I`d prayed that the new MB doesnt have. I just cant stand white once it`s dirty. So polish and polish every week will be my routine again. And I`d thought I wont have to once I sold my iBook

I just read 1073 posts, guess all this rain is good for something

Kudos to Apple for doing core duo across the line, these look pretty good. I think I am going to go for the 2.0 White (but want to see the black first) and then upgrade the ram and hard drive my self.

Apple Version:
1299 base price plus 2gig of RAM and 120gb drive = 2049
My Version
$1299 base price plus 2gig of RAM@$150 and 120gb drive@$150 = $1599

I just want CompUsa to get it for their return policy. I don't have an Apple store close anyway, so it won't matter to me. Probably need to trek down to Salem, NH to look at them and then see if the CompUsa there has one.
Where are you going to get the drive and the RAM for $150 each?
Please Tell!!

I actually have two 7200RPM SATA drives (Hitachi and Seagate) and one 100GB 5400rpm drive (Hitachi) which I am going to test and see which I want to keep and then will ebay the others.

PM me if you want to sell either 7200rpm drive, I'm looking to buy one.
Thanks,

I did it when I installed memory, so it was as simple as pulling on the tab of the drive caddy to get the drive out, remove four T-8 screws, then put the drive caddy (very thin, flimsy metal) back on the new drive, install the 4 drive screws, then slide the HD back in. Then put the RAM cover back on (3 philips screws), put battery back in, and done. If you were just doing the hard drive alone, I'd say 5 minutes tops.

could you reply or PM me and let me know how exactly you replace the HDD? i get the installation part, but i mean, you cant exactly throw a blank HDD into a MacBook and expect it to work... how do you install onto it? boot from CD?

I am using my new MacBook right -- actually this is the first thing I am even typing on it so I can just get used to the new keyboard design. I bought the white one even though I went to my Apple Store willing to pay the extra money for black. I was not impressed with the black case. Looked a little like the old, old Powerbooks, and the yellow letters on the keyboards did not look sleek at all.
I love it so far -- very impressed with everything. Only qualm is that the edges are pretty sharp and is rubbing up against my wrists.

this might get lost in this thread

,but I really wan tto get one of these. I need to use a wireless card though (cingular or verizon) will this be possible with this? Or do you need an express card slot or some other connection

Everybody's going gaga over black - but considering the heat issues with Apple Notebooks I wonder if maybe the white case might stay a little cooler ;)

Actually unless its in direct sunlight, the black should in theory keep cooler, as black dissipates (sp?) heat more efficiently... not saying it will make any difference whatsoever though!

Yes. If you want to copy an existing system to a new notebook drive, use an external firewire drive and Carbon Copy Cloner; works great.

Did anyone notice that the Macbook now has audio ins AND outs???
Sweet. It's the reason I sold my book a while back.

mdavria does your new MacBook have this option?
  • Open System preferences
  • Click on Keyboard and mouse
  • Choose the trackpad tab
  • Under trackpad gestures place a check mark next to "place two fingers on trackpad and click button for secondary click"

I mentioned it a few pages back - my white MacBook has this option.

MacBook is 67.88% The Size of iBook - More Computer In Less Space

Speaking of the size, if you calculate the volume figures for both the iBook 12'' and MacBook 13'' you'll realize that the MacBook is in fact smaller than the iBook 12''.

2241 cc -> 12'' iBook G4
2028 cc -> 13'' MacBook
That's very interesting gedto. Good nerdy fact. In US Cubic Inches that is:

14" iBook = 181.36 cu. in.
13.3" MacBook = 123.12 cu.in.

58.24 fewer cubic inches 67.88% the volume of the 14" iBook  :)

Almost One Third Smaller Volume - Amazing. More Computer In Far Less Space.
