Hey..a little help maybe? I'm just wondering if the 1.83 vs. the 2.0 is really worth it. I don't do much processor heavy things i don't think, so the 1.83 with a 120GB and 1 GB of memory sounds pretty good if you ask me? I was just wondering if there is much of a difference between the processors

if you don't need it for anything (audio, video, games, etc.) then don't worry about the extra speed

Have you seen this beast? It's HUGE! It's thicker than a MacBook Pro, and just about 1/2 in narrower and less deep than the 15 in, too. For those of us hoping for a MacBook that a human can actually carry around, this is very disappointing

Perhaps you need to carry it to the gym. :D

I read something about GMA950 not being able to handle DirectX10 (DX10 is supposed to come with Windows Vista), is this true?

I mean, would I be able to run windows acceptably with this video card?
Yes, there are no DirectX 10 capable video cards available.

Yes, you would be able to run XP fully and Vista. But with Vista, you won't get all of the effects because of your incapable DX10 video card.

OMG! It's 1.08 inches thick vs. the MBP's 1.0 of thickness! That extra .08" is nuts! How am I gonna be able to wrap my hands around it now? ;)

Well, you're sure to get a hernia trying to carry it, so you better just by a 7-lb dell instead...

It's good to hear that it's been finally confirmed and released. The machine itself looks and seems great. Black and white both look great.

However, I do personally do not use laptops, but have closley read on the MacBook Pro models closley (out of curiosity) and really, really hope that this one is not burdened with problems like the MBP. From what I know of the linksk posted that Apple had purposley applied the incorrect amount of thermal grease, I really hope that users find peace with this model. Really.

I'll go check one out soon at my local Apple store in about a week, just to see it. :)

The keys are nice

Anyone here old enough to remember the Commodore PET or IBM PC Jr. Chicklet keys? They remind me of these. I think it may kill the idea of a MacBook for me as well. But will have to try it in person to be sure.

I wonder who and why they greenlighted "Toy Keys" on a $1500 computer. Don't you?

This is another example of someone's ignorance poisoning people's opinions.

The keys actually feel great. They're probably the best-feeling keys Apple's put out since the old ADB keyboards, and they're a welcome change when compared to the mushy keyboards Apple pumps out today.

And yes, I do remember those keys, and no, they're nothing like them. Now repeat after me: "everything I know is wrong."

1.83 GHz is 340 MHz Slower Than 4,000 MHz

Don't pay Apple for a bigger HD or extra ram. You can buy the Seagate 160 for $250. You don't need a SuperDrive, 1.83 is plenty fast. It's only 170 MHz slower on each core for a total of 340 MHz slower out of 4,000 MHz for two 2 GHz cores. So less than 10% difference. About 8% slower. This you will not feel.

Changed order...

Right, after being gobsmacked to see a DVD-RW USB 2.0 drive for like £45 that works with a Mac, I've downgraded to the Entry level. I've never used a DVD-RW if I need one, I'll get one later. I don't need the .14Ghz of power either - in fact 1.83 will probs consume less battery:p

So heres my new order:

1.83CD/512/Combo/80GB £677.45:D

PS: I hope Single Channel RAM will work, because I wanna throw out 256MB and stick in a 1Gig chip for now:p

(BTW, I wont need more than 80GB I have like 20GB free atm anyway, so I dont think I'll bother installin' my own drive +£35 for 20GB space is something I'm willing to pay:p

pictures?

I have seen tons of pictures, but *all* have been of the black one. I would love to see non apple pictures of the white one. Anyone have a link?

Apple's pictures of the white one are absolute crap. you cant even tell where the background ends and the actual photo begins and of course they prolly airbrush them and pick a perfect one to photograph. I would like to see one as it is unpacked by a real non-Apple person...

I have used my Pismo for many years (typing this on it now) and am liking the look of the black one, but if the white one don't look too crummy, i'd rather have the extra getus... I would surely pay $50 extra for black.. $150, well hmm.... that's too much...

I know nothing. I am wrong. My bad. Not trying to poison anyone's opinion.

has anyone else thought that the black mb will show ALOT of fingerprints really easily? or is it just me...i just wish the black mb wasn't matte:(

I can confirm that, I just went to the Apple store today.. and they had 2 models on display..the black and the white one. The black one looks good, but you could see fingerprints all over it, the case, the trackpad..even the keys!

The white on the other hand, looked absolutely beautiful. I would pick the white one over the black one anyday. Sure, you could buy the black one.. but then if you were picky like me.. you'd be polishing it everyday! :D

For some odd reason, the macbook seemed faster than a macbook pro right next to it.. they were the same specs.. could be that the macbook pro had a lot of stuff on it.. and the macbook didn't? Lots of variables.. but it was just weird :p

Was going to buy, but check out Apple hot deals!!!

I was all set to order folks. But upon glancing at the Refurbished page from the Apple Store Online http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...woa/wo/5.RSLID?mco=26403331&nclm=SpecialDeals

MacBook Pro's for $1599!!!!!!!!
15.4-inch TFT display with 1440x900 resolution
1.83GHz Intel Core Duo with 2MB shared L2 Cache
667MHz frontside bus
512MB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80GB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 memory

I was going to buy the new MacBook, with additional ram and hardrive to 80gb for about $1449
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
80GB Serial ATA drive

So for only $150 more, I went for the MacBook Pro. Eventually running Motion at some point is important to me. I hope the techs fixed those bugs.

B

yeah or play a game :(

honestly people who say if you want good graphics get a MBP are giving me the sh**s. I would be happy to get a MBP if they would just make one smaller. I want my next laptop to be my only computer, I want it small so I can carry it to uni, I want it to have a decent graphics card so I can play the odd game.

And to those who say why would you play games on a small laptop - I say - use an EXTERNAL monitor !

$200 for black - put a freakin graphics card in it you cheapskates
