Good: 7 hour battery, trackpad. Styling is a bit fresher if not outstanding.
Bad: Loses firewire, UK price increase. No SD slot.

Is there Infra Red on the new MacBook?

I can't find any details saying there is and the remote isn't an option to have one when you buy it...

Probably not on there. Apple use to give the remote to you for free, along with miniDVI connectors back in the day. But now that we are in a "recession" things have dramatically changed. I miss the old Apple.

The LED screen was just what was preventing me from buying the old polycarb MB. Now it has an LED screen it's a winner for me :)

There is not even the option to select the remote to buy and in the 'technical specifications' it does not mention Infra Red anywhere.

Strange...

Will Leopard 10.5 work on these new Macbooks? We're in an enterprise setting, and do not support 10.6 at this point, as the software used here will not work on 10.6. At this point, we been wiping the drives on the new Macs and installing Leopard 10.5 on them.

Its increased by £100 this year alone, and i'm sure last year it sold for £649?

Before this MB update it sold for £749 and considering the US & European prices haven't changed (in-fact, the European price has changed to €899 when I'm sure it was €999 last time - correct me if I'm wrong!) - I don't think its exactly fair for Apple to increase the price in the UK.

Was there any need for Apple to smack on an extra £50 for UK consumers?

Well to be fair the state of the pound still isn't fantastic. I'm finding it funnier they're pretending that they didn't. "Still just £799"...oh no it wasn't!

Considering all the new stuff it's not so bad though. Think I'll still end up taking the plunge for one of these on thursday when I'm back on the uni network with an upgrade to 4gb ram. Never had a Mac before.

Edit: Scrap that, they seem to have changed it to "Starting at £799."

Yeah, I'm hoping that was some sort of misprint or something lol. I'll be buying a MB in December and I'll be taking advantage of the educational discount since I'm at college, and I'm sure the educational discount will equal to about the price prior to the MB update.

Nice Bump

Nice upgrade, but I would of liked to see two versions,

The one they announced, and maybe one version with lower specs (similar to yesterdays Mac Book), with a better price point :(

No Firewire, Again!

Not happy of what they did with the first generation 13,3" aluminium MacBook, now they have removed the FireWire port from the new white polycarbonate MacBook.

FireWire port is a must-have tool for:

a) video transfer (USB sucks)

b) reliable one-cable connecting / powering of portable HDs (USB sucks);

c) do-it-youself manteinance / emergency tasks, accessing the (problematic) internal HD in firewire target disk mode.

I have yet sent my negative feedback to http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html

Please, all of you disappointed for the lack of FireWire port, do the same.

If Apple receives a huge number of complaints, perhaps they will reintroduce the FireWire port, as they did with the second generation 13,3" aluminium MacBook (Pro).

Pre unibody, i think the macbook was something around £650. When the Unibodys came in, the SAME spec plastic mabook got a price bump to at least £700. Now £800.

*sigh*

Apple are telling you to buy a pro for firewire
