meh never been a fan of the plastic books and now they have an 13" aluminum MBP I will wait for that update and get one.

If there is a hefty price drop on the MBA between that and the new MBP at only $200 more I don't know how they will sell these whitebooks

Wait's for new CrackBook stories to emerge in next few months.

Seriously, from a guy who used to own a Black MacBook 2.4, stay away, they overheat and then crack.

Fork out the extra dosh for a MacBook Pro Alu.

It's an aesthetic for some. This will be a big seller for schools too, where they get it for $899 or so.

Was there any need for Apple to smack on an extra £50 for UK consumers?

The Pound has lost value against the Dollar and the Euro since a year ago. Don't rage against Apple, rage against international currency markets and the global banking collapse.

Well to be fair the state of the pound still isn't fantastic. I'm finding it funnier they're pretending that they didn't. "Still just £799"...oh no it wasn't!

Considering all the new stuff it's not so bad though. Think I'll still end up taking the plunge for one of these on thursday when I'm back on the uni network with an upgrade to 4gb ram. Never had a Mac before.

Edit: Scrap that, they seem to have changed it to "Starting at £799."

eh apple increased their prices when it was 1.3 dollars to the pound, now its back up to 1.63 dollars to the pound, they are taking the p*ss:mad:

There is not even the option to select the remote to buy and in the 'technical specifications' it does not mention Infra Red anywhere.

Strange...

What is this obsession with IR I have seen on the board? Bluetooth is far superior, so why not use a BT device?

complete sh*t u could buy a mini for 399uk when it was 1.6/1 a few years ago its back to that now yet its 499 stop defending apple like a fanboy.

Incidentally, anyone have access to the UK Education Store and know how much they're charging for this, preferably with the 4GB RAM? I think the previous version went from £749 to £649 with the standard components.

"still just $999"

Well jeez, that's all swell in America but no-one's smiling in the UK when £80 has been thrown into the exact same model.

If Apple receives a huge number of complaints, perhaps they will reintroduce the FireWire port, as they did with the second generation 13,3" aluminium MacBook (Pro).

This time I think you're out of luck. Apple is going to say that removing FW is one of the things that enabled them to hit the sub-$1000 price point, and that anyone who needs it should move to the 13" pro model (which wasn't an option before).

Apple misjudged the size of the negative reaction the first time but probably not this time.

I think taking out firewire is a mistake, but like the poster above said with the 13" MBP available I don't think it will be such a big deal this time around. I can't wait to actually see on of these in person. It looks like a great update and case redesign.

£687.70 as standard and (+£69 for 4GB, so £756.70 total), better to buy standard and get crucial ram to save coin:)

&&& Now the 13" MacBook is better then the 13" MacBook Pro in terms of baseline specs....do you really think an aluminum body, and an SD slot is worth $250 more?

*That $250 more is to be the same exact specs as the standard MacBook

Only a matter of time until the MBP is updated, methinks....

Non-replaceable battery on a laptop just kills me.

Get used to it, buddy. This marks the end of replaceable batteries on Apple hardware, and I'm betting that they aren't going to backtrack on this one.

Hell, just be lucky we still have another year or two before they start axing optical drives. :p
